Teh geh in Korean is the opposite. It means very NOT chill and relaxed. It means a lot, like 120% effort. Deh gee means very in Japanese but in Korean it means pig LOL!

Uchinaguchi is not Hogen. Its like saying Hawaiian is an American dialect. Its its own language. The Ryukyu nation stands alone. It was just annexed by Japan.
What a great video! I’d love to see you guys make some more Okinawan dialect videos! でーじーおもろかった!

Okinawan is not a dialect of Japanese. Okinawa was an independent nation until 1879. During wartime Japan took over many countries between 1879-1945. Japan called many languages such as Korean & Pacific Island Languages "A Japanese Dialect." Japan forced Okinawans to learn Japanese. Many Okinawans were persecuted by Japan for speaking their native tongue up until the 1960's. Okinawans speak Japanese & Okinawan (Uchināguchi). Just because they have similar words doesn't make it a dialect. Today in Japan they are using more Chinese Kanji, does that mean Japan is China. NO THAT IS STUPID!!! Okinawan (Uchināguchi) is it's own language.

It is in fact a separate language. However, this video is talking about the way Okinawan people speak Japanese, which is also quite distinct.

Then we can simply assume "dialect" in Japan's usage includes individual languages that are spoken within it's purview. This video seems to focus on the Uchinaaguchi additions/variations on Japanese though. I find it odd that outsiders to Okinawa tend to barge in with history lessons when Okinawans themselves call it Okinawa Hogen (dialect).. or just Hogen.
@user-qy9rg3nt2l2 жыл бұрын
@Nori I don't disagree with that. I'm no linguist, but I would consider the influence of these languages on current Japanese (-ben) a dialect vs the actual language. Thanks for the reply.

First, after the abandonment of the controversial Altaic theory, new research has turned up on the possible relationship of Japonic with Indo-European, as it shows features allied to the Indo-Iranian branch. The Ryukyuan languages do not include Okinawan alone, it includes the Yaeyama language of Ishigaki. With that, Japanese has no cognate words for sister, but Ryukyuan does, like Miyako suza "older sister" versus Ashkun sos "sister". PS. The Yaeyaman word maarun "to die" is from Proto-Ryukyuan *mawari, from Proto-Japonic *marari, from Pre-Proto-Japonic *maryátay, from Proto-Indo-Japonic mr̥yátay, from Proto-Indo-European *mr̥yétor, from *mer- "to die". Interesting!

Yeah, no. Just because words sound similar and have similar meanings across different languages does not necessarily mean that those words are actually cognates. If that were the case, then Japanese ''名'' (na) and English ''name'' would be cognates as well, but they aren't.
I don't find this on Wikipedia. Did you make this up? No offense, just asking
