Drew P, if I can give a recommendation. Powers John's Lane. 12 year old, solid Irish whiskey. If you go to Woodman's you should be able to find it for about $50
I’ve heard this is good, but I really dont like the taste of Peat. I dont like Scotch and dont really know the difference between the two, Scotch and Irish Whiskey.

Just to clarify, Single Pot Still isn't referring to one still. It means that it was in a pot still, but isn't single malt. It was developed in the late 18th century when the British government decided to tax malted barely. To avoid paying taxes, the Irish started making their whiskey from a mix of malted and un-malted barely. The legal definition now requires there to be at least 30% malted barely (this is well over 50% usually) and at least 30% un-malted barely. You can also add up to 5% other grains (Oats are the popular addition). Also, not all spirits direct products are bad at Total Wine. In general, if it's a house brand spirits direct it's awful and you should stay away. However, sometimes they get near exclusive rights to an existing brand. For Irish Whiskey, knappogue castle is spirits direct. For rum, the Doorly's line and RL Seale are Spirits Direct (made by foursquare and quite good). In my state Ironroot bourbon, rye, and corn whiskey are spirits direct. These won't be spirits direct in other countries, and may be available in other states that don't have total wine as well.

I agree life’s too short to drink “Cheap” Whiskey. I’d rather spend $200 on a bottle I love than 4 bottles I like. Try a pour of Michters 10 year it ruined all my other Ryes. Absolutely delicious. To each their own, cheers 🥃

Welcome back!!!!! This is exactly why I snag single barrels like this even though I pay more for it than I used to. Still great though. Actually my most recent bottle was the best I remember and I’m not sure if that’s my nostalgia or frustration with the industry speaking. Either way happy to hear Drew P talking about it.
