Fantastischer Sound! Ein Traum Rhodes!
I love that little tune, and all the voicings sound good to me.
Very useful, thank-you!
What kind of tap bit do you use? When I look there seems to be lots of types
Awesome playing!!!!
The electric piano used by Billy at the Beatles' rooftop concert
Klingt ein bisschen wie ein gut eingestellter Multibandkompressor. Mir gefällt es.
Cooles Video! Wie wird die Harp dann in der neuen Position wieder befestigt?
Pleasantly surprised at this mod... I do prefer "with" to "without"!
Awesome work as always, Christian @tinesreeds6143! Love the A/B comparison, and the technical analysis vs. actually playing and listening. I actually modified my Rhodes way back in the early 80s some time after I read this Fachblatt article, and was very pleased with the sound (like the Rhodes on the Al Jarreau albums of that era, "This Time", "Breakin' Away", and especially "Jarreau", on which the infamous Leeds Rentals E-Rhodes was used as I learned later) - exactly because of the reasons you pointed out so clearly: This mod delivered a nice balance of custom tailored bell tone for each register - while using an EQ to significantly boost 2-5 kHz made the upper register practically unusable.* Today, however, I would not want to miss the warm tone of the original Rhodes setup without those condensers, especially after your great restoration, Christian. Which brings us to… There was another mod in those days (I never had this on of my Rhodes pianos) which addressed this issue from another angle: Splitting the three main registers low/mid/high to three separate XLR outputs (not sure though if those were balanced) so the EQ could be set differently for each register…
that's interesting and the change in tone sounds really beneficial to me. but I wonder to what extent this change in character couldn't be achieved just as well by simply throwing a preamp in and fiddling with eq... ? I guess boosting different freqs across different ranges is a plus tho
You'll get better air band boost with an external setup, without loosing the general Rhodes softness. This cap mod seems to boost mainly the aggressive 3-5k range, which was my experience, too ( I bought a used instrument with cap mod, and removed it almost immediately). To note: for external air band boost, take the signal directly from the harp rather than passing it through the built-in passive tone control stack...
Its just another sound. As I said in the video: If you use an EQ for boosting lets say 4.2kHz... this will then effect all notes and not only a group of notes. The article in the "Fachblatt" says, that this modification makes it possible to boost the bell-sound without having the upper octaves end up way too loud which is a benefit.
@@tom_k_d You could change the capacitors for other frequency-ranges :-) And for my personal taste 3-5k is not aggressive. The aggressive sound is more at 900 - 2k.
@@tinesreeds6143 To me, the issue is rather that I prefer a shelf EQ on my Rhodes, while this cap mod acts in peak mode. THANKS for all the work you put into this - this is the first real live demo I have ever seen on this cap mod.
@@tom_k_d Yes. There's been people talking about it, but not giving audio samples. Thank you.
Sounds amazing well done
Would it make sense to have the headphone connection on the back?
Sehr schön. Ich habe nach einem Kopfhörerverstärker für den Fender Rhodes gesucht.
Cooles Teil! Hat sich gelohnt!
Outstanding.
Thank you! :-)
This might beat my set-up (of 30 yrs) of a Mark 1 and a Roland Jazz 120 Chorus.
Yeah, the preamp is a weapon! :-)
Incredible sounding preamp, mesmerizingly musical playing! Is that the infamous Simon Oslender performing his magic?
Thank you! It is indeed! :-)
One of my favorite instruments and a major part of jazz fusion and the Jeff Lorber sound. Fender Rhodes yes sir
Absolutely!
Just what i needed.
Preoder your unit shop.tinesandreeds.com/en/produkt/rhodestar/
yo, that's some dope sounding tunes
Simon Oslender is an incredible player!
Preamp sounds great and love that clear top. Do you sell those too?
Unfortunately not at the very moment. But Chicago Electric Piano does.
Whough, this is truly amazing: What do one have to pay for that gear???
$1000 too pricy. should have been 500
Thanks for calculating the unit for me as you do have the insight of the development and manufacturing costs. There is absolutely no comparable preamp in the whole word available. This is an outstanding preamp. And if you would read carefully the price is including German tax. So if you aren't in the EU, its 755€ at the very moment. Brilliant! ❤👏
Thank you! :-)

From the "US customary" measurement angle: If you are dealing with an aluminum harp support and have the original self-tapping screws, I found a 3/16" drill bit to be just the right size hole to allow the screws to cut threads the first time you screw them back in after drilling.
nice work!
Where is rhodestar demo? Can it be put into the Rhodes or is it just an external unit?
😍😍😍
TAKE MY MONEY…
Awesome! Out of curiosity, which system are you using? And how does MIDI sustain information get transmitted? And how is it connected - I see a MIDI cable out of the right cheek block, but does the system need power too?
This is PNOScan by QRS. For the sustain pedal, there is a sensor inside the piano measuring the sustain pedal mechanism. It is connected either via MIDI or via USB (cheek block on the other side). The system needs power, +5V... easily supplied by a USB charger.
Whough! I totally understand why you smile so happily while palying: This is SOOO beautiful, and to the glory of our heavenly Father! <3
Its not me playing. Its Simon Oslender. Check him out on KZread.
Thank you ever so much, I will most certainly!@@tinesreeds6143
Yes! Glory to the Flying Spaghetti Monster!
@@vogelvogeltje I am not familiar with the flying spaghetti monster, so I cannot relate to your salute, but I AM familiar with the one and only that has the name "I AM", thus I keep giving him glory for (also!) all good music! 😍 🤩
kinda like pura and more fundamental the best.
What a great sound!! 👍👊
What about the early Rhodes that have the big tonebars and felt washers. Do the grommets fit those?
I own an ARP Pro Soloist and watched countless KZread and other recordings of this v cool instrument. Ive never heard one sound as good or used as well as this.. Great work!
What was the signal path here? Sounds amazing in all settings!
These are the songs and sounds only a real Rhodes can produce. The feel when playing on one of these beauties is so different from playing digital versions and sample players. When you dial in an effect and suddenly feel inspired to play a chord progression or melody from a song that has been in your ears for decades, and suddenly it is in your fingers, priceless. Congrats to your wonderful product, I am seriously considering upgrading my 1980 Mark 2 with that amp…
i thought you were going to talk about chord voicings
Same, it worked in a clickbait-kind of way. But still, big up to musician!
What is the title of this song? It's a nice melody that cheers me up.
Nothing sounds better than a Rhodes. Maybe Michael Jackson’s voice. But im not sure 😅
Great stuff. Though, I wonder if the Lounge-fus PRO - JVVIRE edition is not a lower-cost option kzread.info/dash/bejne/jG2I1q6emtzXZbQ.html
That is a great tremolo during the "shimmer reverb" demo!
Fascinating....I always wondered what the Rhodes looked like inside and how it worked. Although I didn't understand what you actually did to make the voicing changes between each sample.
Moving the upper screw, bro! You can change all the sound only with that.
Adjusting the strike line changes the sound too. The voice settings can make it sound Wurlitzer at times.
So schön!
Can you make a video showing how and what spacing to adjust to for getting the idel setting featured in this video for an OEM rhodes?
Which type pickups are set on this beautie? Are they the white ones, that are commonly met on MK2?
Its an early Mark II and still has the red pickups.
