    Yes, this is a backstrap loom in the traditional Maya Kaqchikel style from Guatemala.

    @@kakawdesigns я очень люблю Майя. И нравится ваша культура, которая долгое время была изолирована от привычной европейской и азиатской культуры, что делает её более таинственной и роскошной. Спасибо за видео, в которых запечатлен способ ткацтва, созданный руками Майя. Привет из России👋

    How do they keep the threads spaced so evenly without using a reed?

  • @kakawdesigns
    @kakawdesigns9 ай бұрын

    Good question! Doña Margarita actually has a "cane" on the underside of her loom. You can see the nails sticking out on the sides that keep that temple there to keep the width constant. The other end of the warp has also been woven a little bit, and that helps a lot to keep the warp from moving. Does that help answer your question?

  • @Earthwise.
    @Earthwise.9 ай бұрын

    @@kakawdesigns oh yes, I see it! I think that answers part of my question...so, to keep the threads from moving toward a warp-faced weave as the piece progresses is more a matter of patience and attention?

  • @kakawdesigns
    @kakawdesigns9 ай бұрын

    @@Earthwise.Well, the width shouldn't change if you keep the temple there to control it. And the warp threads shouldn't move so much becuase they've been woven on the other end also, so there's not too much wiggle room. And then after that, yes, attention and lots of patience :) Separating individual threads row by row as necessary.
