I'm driving my family of 4+1 small dog up to N.Berwick from Chester on Friday AM. It'll be interesting to see what miles/kw my Q4 40 e-tron sportback gets. We usually have a roof box, and 2 bikes on the rear tow bar and never get near 2.9m/kw.... This time we'll just be fully loaded internally with neither roof box or bikes. I'll be aiming to charge at the ionity north of Carlisle. I'll waive as I pass Penicuik.

@@edinreviews I find the bikes on the tow bar create a huge drag, I'll lose about ~20% alone with the bikes. We have the Thule roof box with the shark skin technology, and that alone impacts the range by only ~10%. Combined I'd say its ~25% loss of range. We'll be heading up the M6/74 and off at Abington and up the A702 > A720 > A1. We have a boat up in NB, I towed it up last summer in the Q4 and strangely managed 3.2m/kw with cruise control set at 60mph on the motorway.

Really good efficiency for a car of that size. Don't get rid of your i3 it is the best small EV and will be a future classic ( I might be biased). I can't believe how good it is across a range of journeys. I'm older than you and our family have flown the nest so for my wife and I it's perfect.

Similar figures on a 3 week old Q4 45 with a trip from South Somerset to Dumfries & Galloway and back. Total mileage 884 at an average of 3.7m/kWh. Short term memory was around 4.0 when bimbling about in rural Scotland. No roof box, but air-con was on. Only five charging stops - Hilton Park, Tebay, Auchinleck (new), Carlisle & Sandbach. Sandbach to home leg is 188 miles and had 19% left on arrival. So 61% for 188 miles would give a theoretical range of just over 300.

Thanks. We recently did a trip from Bristol to Bishopton (West of Glasgow) and spent a few days in the local area visiting Loch Lomond and the area before returning home via York. Motorway speeds really ate into the consumption of electricity and I think we averaged about 3.3kwh. Once we were back on A and B roads the average went up to 4kwh which goes to show how slower speeds really help economy. One thing I will say is that all the charging points in we used in Scotland worked first time and none were broken and we never had to wait for one to become free. Once we got back to England it was a different story....
