I enjoy all of your videos, it's really nice to see a young person so interested and skilled in old tech! I have one question for you, it always pops up in my mind and it's not about tech, haha. What accent do you speak? To my untrained ears you sound Australian, although you are UK based. Only answer if you're comfortable, of course. Keep it up! :)

Nice One. Like your enthusiasm. Got to be honest I never saw the future of video games at school computer club...lines of type to move a space invader left seemed boring to me. My mistake!...started gaming with the gameboy well if you don't count an 1978 interstate programaster

It’s funny how awful they were originally but how good we thought they were because there was no option. I remember fighting friends to be the next one to play a friends sisters original game boy and now I was really really close to buying one and playing on it again until I remembered the terrible battery life, dim screen and the other things that were terrible and realised I didn’t want to spend $100 on something that is really just a prop nowadays so I bought a Chinese one loaded with emulators and games. If I see a game boy at a garage sale I’ll pick one up, but only just to have and maybe play Tetris on once every so often when I feel old.

It seems like GBA screen replacements have come a long way since I did mine only about 2 years ago. Mine never quite fit right and in fact I ruined my first one after reopening the case to try to reposition it, since it didn't come with a bracket like yours did. It just never worked again after that. I have a second one in mine now but it's still not quite even on one side vs. the other, which just bothers me! I'll have to look at one of these kits that you used.

Agreed, a buddy of mine used to fix consoles and crap and I was going to build up a GBA or colour for myself but I couldn’t justify the (heavily discounted) price, basically just core and components he was asking for because they were just a bit ordinary. This was probably 10ish years ago and the only thing I really liked was a rechargeable battery mod, everything else just felt a bit cheap.

I’m glad I found your channel. Some fun tutorials here. And I think I’m going to have to do this project myself. My wife and I, both gamers, have a little girl who also loves playing games. I think she’d be ecstatic for a pink GBA. Thanks for this!

The SEGA game gear is, and always will be the king of the handhelds. It's just a fact of nature. The GBA is pretty cool though. Great video as always.

Did I spot a "true motion" setting, I wonder what that is, surely it isn't BFI or PWM, if it is, that's dope, I canny wait for a GBA with OLED to be available that can do 120Hz BFI for GBA games finally with decent motion clarity.

Don't know if those buttons can be programmed to enter a key combo or not, but if they CAN .... you can create a shortcut icon for hibernating your PC. The shortcut should point to: "%WINDIR%\System32\shutdown.exe -h" Then, go into the Properties for your shortcut and create a key combo to launch it. (For example, CTRL+SHIFT+H) Then, assign one of your big buttons to execute the key combo of CTRL+SHIFT+H. Whenever you hit that button, your system will automatically hibernate. You could assign all sorts of cool things in this manner. Another example is to create a shortcut key for the Task Manager. "%WINDIR%\System32\taskmgr.exe" Possible key combo might be CTRL+ALT+T. Assign that key combo to the button and you can press it to open the Task Manager. Possibilities are endless.

As someone who's done modding with OLD Macs. I love that if it's not a leaking battery, it's a leaking cap. The thing that unites us all is leaking electrolytics.

I use an EZ-Flash Omega DE flashcart to use between my GBA, GameCube but mostly my Analogue Pocket (AP). Games are just getting too expensive. If you just wanted GBA, depending on the LCD quality, an IPS screen on a GBA looks great compared to an AP, close to on par at first glance. My GBA uses the Funny Playing 2.0 IPS with the Minish Cap shell (just like Macho Nacho's video on it). The view on the AP is ever so slightly bigger and can realistically mimic the pixel look of a GBA AGS-101 screen (I know, SP only) but the IPS screen is pretty darn close. Now if you don't have a GBA, you're about 2/3 to 3/4 on the cost of an AP after buying all the parts AND the doner GBA but I love the form factor of the GBA non-SP vs. the AP and the GBA SP. If realistic hardware is not too much of a concern, the RG35XXSP looks pretty darn good for under $100.

There was a program on the Commodore 64 I believe it was called "SAM Say It" that modulated the noise output of the SID chip. It was REALLY rough but it could mimic speech. I used to play around with it all the time when I was a kid. (Yes, I'm old af)

Games to check out: Kuru Kuru Kururin. You control a spinning stick through a maze, trying not to hit the walls. There's also a sequel, Kururin Paradise. Mario vs Donkey Kong - Fantastic puzzle platformer Crash Bandicoot - The Huge Adventure - Not very graphically impressive, but a really solid and fun platformer nonetheless
