Fun in Scale

Fun in Scale

Hello!

What i plan doing on this channel:
Building model kits (armor, ships, less planes), building dioramas or vignettes for them, building and painting figures (fantasy (DnD) or military) in many different scales and 3D-Printing of accessoires or figures.

My passion is modelling, which i have done several years for myself now, but, as many other modellers would agree, you do want to share your work, get feedback, constructive criticism and not only build for yourself.
While i am following many very talented modellers on youtube, i am probably not as skilled as most of them, but, as the channel name suggests, for me, modelling is only about fun and joy, creating interesting and beautiful things.
So the thing inspired me the most to start such an experiment was the Mediocre Modellers Club by Andys Hobby Headquarters. While others seek perfection in their models, most of us do it because they enjoy it.
Best regards,
Peter

Great build, and thank you for showing this. I have the same kit and have the time now to dive in and start the build. Im curious in watching your process, what did. you use for your glue, and what technique was used in applying it? I marvel at builders that can put together a ship of this quality and have no glue marks. Thank you for any wisdom you can share. Cheers.

You'd think 1:350 scale models would be a bit more of separate parts to assemble. I highly dislike when the hull is one solid piece. With my 1:200 scale models of Bismarck, Hood and Scharnhorst you had to construct the entire hull oneself. keel plate assembled from 3 or 4 wooden parts, then install the wooden ribs, then first panelling, grinding smooth, filling gaps with putty, grinding smooth again, second panelling, grinding smooth, filling gaps with putty, grinding smooth again... So the entire hull was made of wood. The core of the super structure: made of several wooden parts, that were covered in photo-etched parts. All in all very little plastic. mostly wood, PE parts, other metal parts (steel and copper). I mean, those 1:350 scale models are not that cheap. Why can't the manufacturer make the kits as e.g. Amati made the Bismarck, Hood and Scharnhorst in 1:200 (the models I built)? But other than that, I enjoyed watching.

Nice job man looks great! I’m close to pulling the trigger on buying the 1/350 uss Missouri 1991 kit and this is definitely helping! Lol. I did notice that you built the uss New Jersey 1982 kit because the superstructure was unique on the New Jersey compared to the other three Iowa class ships. And I like the added touch of the helicopter haha

I have watched a couple of these Tamiya builds and am curious as to what type glue is used as the parts seem to move around easily but then are firmly in place. I am an old, 82, plastics modeller, but have not kept up with the latest glues, etc. Would appreciate any help you could give.

Very impressive overall result. A minimum of rigging would not hurt. I would love to build this ship, because I like the particular sleek lines of it - but four sheets of PE is too much for me. I wonder whether Hobby Boss could be convinced to issue a "light" version of this kit, with a minimum of PE parts (i.e. railings and radar dishes) - a CB-2 Guam for mere mortals, so to say. I bet they would sell one or two of those.

My dad, RMC Steve E Philip was a Plankowner on this ship. I was privileged to have attended many ship’s reunions, always on 06 October to commemorate the lives of the 54 sailors who were lost on that faithful night at Vella La Vella in the Solomon Islands and for the remaining crew to gather and reminisce with their shipmates. It’s probable that the crew has all passed on but for me, USNRetired, will never forget meeting so many of this brave crew!

Congratulations, great job. Please, would you be so kind as to tell me what product did you used to make the water foam effects? It can't be seen very well in the video but I really like the effect it leaves on such a small scale. I see it's an AK Interactive product but i can't identify it. Thanks.

Awesome build, I built a similar 1/350th USS Enterprise from Monogram in the late 1970's with the original dome on the island, the hull was one piece, it was a fun and easy build for a 13 yr old, but when it came to the painting, I was still a novice, so decades later, I want to build another one and this time, convert the model into an RC.
