One of the finest waltz rolls, I think. I'm curious about your copy - it seems shorter than the original? Also, mine is attributed to Harold Wansborough?
@PiotrBarcz28 күн бұрын
It certainly sounds like Wansborough though the arpeggios in the intro are starting to get me paranoid because a similar technique shows up in You Can't Be True Dear. However otherwise this roll is just too cluttered to be Cook's work.
@rowanbelt361228 күн бұрын
@@PiotrBarcz I wouldn't be surprised if Cook ended up taking some inspiration from W. Also, I know Cook loved his arpeggios haha! But so many artists do, it's a very basic element. This all sounds like W to me without doubts. I'm guessing this is a later rerelease of the roll without the repeat of the verse and first chorus.

It's common for arrangers at the time to introduce another song by the same composer in the middle, so the song itself is long enough for dancers to enjoy. "Maybe You're Not the Only One" starts at 2:12, and ends with "Sugar Moon" again at 3:14.
@playerpianogal3 ай бұрын
Thank you very much for the information! I was going to put the name..."Maybe You're Not the Only One" in print on the piano roll, but was not sure it was at 2:12. What does "Barn Dance" mean as it was hardly a "barn dance"? I do have other songs by Wenrich. But I always knew it was the ARRANGER who really makes the roll, but the true arranger is rarely listed on most rolls.

I when around three years old always had my grandmother play this for me on the piano every Saturday. I promised her some day I would come back and play it for her. Well thirty odd years later I did just that along with one Joplin Rag and Silvery Waves by Addison P. Wyman. Well when I stopped to play for her after work one day I said to Gram I am now here to play as my promise. May I play the piano for you. This got me in hot water as I was forbidden to every play this piece ever again for her as I did it flawlessly. But not about how I played. She asked me whom to heck taught you to play like that. I played all three pieces with no music in Front of me. I just said to Gram, I have now for filled my wish to you. It is in French by the way as that is where it came from.
