We do have a reserve force. I know cause i was one a looong time ago and loved it and miss it even more. Before that i was an army cadet which made me want to be a canadian soldier. I was in a rifle regiment which i prefer. It was the greatest time of my life. My weapon at the time was an FNC1A1. Great weapon great training and a great time

The President of the USA could not ride a horse through Washington without a bullet proof glass barricade down the length of every street and soldier snipers on every high building lining the route. Here we have our Royal family our on horseback or in open landau's with no extra thought for their safety than normal. Of course they are all expert riders.

Back in the day - e.g. the times of the establishment of the VC and before and since - capture of the enemy's guns were clear evidence of winning. Using captured guns (or pieces thereof) is an entirely appropriate way to create medals.

They aren't flags, they are the regiments' battle honours that they drop to show their allegiance to king/queen of country.

In some regiments, it has become customary for the percussion rank to wear leopard skins over their uniform. This protects both the uniform and the instrument, as cymbals have to be muffled against the chest, which may leave marks on the cloth, and the drums may be scratched by uniform buttons. Then there is also a second reason. Leopard skins are used across the British bands as a symbol of a bygone era. Back in the 18th c when having “exotic” units was in vogue, the majority of, say, the drummers in the Fusiliers were of African descent. The leopard skins were only worn on parade and added to the spectacle. So in reality ..its a traditionally thing for many reasons...I guess you could say...its just their thingy!

I’m a Monarchist from my hair roots to my toenails. The trooping of the colours is the most historical meaningful parade that I never tired from Tradition is a powerful thing. I’m so glad I’m able to enjoy it the orchestration, absolutely fantastic. I’m proud to be a royalist God save our king.🙏

If you haven't already seen it, check out Royal Navy field gun competition. These amaizing guys used to race taking a field gun apart and carrying it over walls and canyons then reassemble and fire it. Sadly, health and safety lightweights put a stop to it, but for an artillery guy it's right up your street. Your reaction will be priceless.

Everyone on this lawn at Buckingham Palace was on duty and in the procession throughout the Coronation Day....therefore many of them never saw much of the day themselves. Also, removing one headdress is a sign of respect...and everyone on parade has sworn an oath to the Monarch on joining the formed forces. Also why the regimental flags and ensigns are laid on the groun....below the level of the Regiments' Monarch. (I know you don't lay such on the ground in the US). Charles trained in the navy, army and airforce. He is now Colonel in Chief, or someone in the Royal Family is, and takes a real and keen interest in their lives and welfare.

I hasten to add that the British had a hand in the Second World War, the Canadians were involved far earlier than the USA forces, so when you say that the USA and Canadian had the honour to win the war, you had the honour to help the British win the war!

To answer the question about What the king was wearing. It is a non military outfit. Though in usual public appearances he will wear one of his uniforms. Here he is wearing historical vestment clothes worn by previous Kings. Notably the Georgians. The Crown is the 1661 St Edwards crown. A 17th Century Replica of the crown worn by Englands first king

The lady on horseback in black wearing the red cockade was Ann, Charlie's sister. The pageantry is relatively expensive, it has evolved in time, but it goes back to the restoration, when they decided they preferred their monarchy over Cromwell's republic. The British had their civil war a couple of hundred years before the Yanks had theirs. It all has meaning. Oh yes, you will note that a lot of those toy soldiers are wearing campaign medals.

Sadly, the American army, well all branches of the services have what I would call a sloppy attitude when it comes to marching and drilling. Compare your soldiers marching and drilling compared to the British way. I think the you will see why British military personnel give a much, much better performance.

It is also the Kings birthday celebration. You will also see some of the royal family who are Colonels in Chief of various units- ie Welsh Scots etc. Princess of Wales is CIC of The Welsh(if I remember correctly)The trooping of the colour you are watching is last years. Prince William is riding, Princess Anne is riding as is the King. Yesterday they also had the Order of the Garter for procession they had a torrential downpour and they all got soaked but typical Brits carried on anyway.
