    I love how the dog is in the video, unconcerned about all of the work being on done because of him, only to find at the end that his screen busting days are over.

    Why building a cage outside for cats? I don't understand the concept ...

  • @RoBeaird

  • @RoBeaird

    True. At least our cats don't know what they're missing, LOL. We don't lock them in or out, like a cage. They are free to come and go as they please. The downside to that is that they bring cicadas and birds into the house.

    Maybe I missed it, but is your house connection on the subfacia or did you run the beams into the top plate of the house?

  • @RoBeaird
    @RoBeaird17 күн бұрын

    The side beams are connected to a ledger board which is bolted on to the subfacia. Hopefully that will be OK since the porch only comes out 7 feet from the house and it's also supported by three 6x6 posts in the front.

    I am so thankful for your video!! The breakdown is extremely helpful. I've been given permission by my landlord to build a temporary enclosure for the time we rent the house and I couldn't be happier to bring my boys the joy of being outside more then only when we are able to go out together. My boys are a bit on the bigger side, one half main coon so I'm worried about putting the time into build this and it not supporting them as they run around or lounge on the upper levels. Do you think this build using the pcv and wires would support a 24lb and 18lb cat?

    I saw where you attached straight to the roof without taking up the shingles. Will that hurt it over time? I want to do something similar on my home and have watched so many videos and people do it all differently. Just curious. Great video.

  • @RoBeaird
    @RoBeaird17 күн бұрын

    Thanks. I've seen it done by removing the shingles first and by the way I did it: on top of the shingles. I used plenty of nails to hold it down so it should hold tight. But time will tell!

    68 year old lifelong carpenter thinks You and your family did a a wonderful job! Love it! One safety tip thou, from 7:01 to 7:05 you put your left hand flat while ripping with Skil saw. A kick back would possibly get you 'not a good outcome. Great job and all the best to you and yours!

  • @bikr6573

    Nice work~ It's apparent that you really love your cats. Warning: your window-installed cat door is a weak point against break-in and that fence door isn't very secured. Your cats can wiggle themselves out at the bottom corner... also those screws wouldn't stay put for very long. Considering the amount of labor, pvc used, and total project cost, I'd have build a wooden enclosure that expands all the way to the deck railing with a height clearance that extends above the windows. The structure would be heavy enough to free-stand and wouldn't require drilling into the house or deck. A proper locking door would be installed to secure the pets and deter any intruder. FYI, I let my cats go in and out during the day and lock them in after dinner. They often stay in the backyard or hiding inside a bush or atop a tree within the premise, but normally, I find them sleeping on my bed instead of theirs. Like people, the more you say "no" the harder they want to try. Cheers~
