Curious to see how you handle dust collection. That dust port is fairly close to the wall... it may be a challenge.
Very nice design. Can you please put a link to the dust mask you used with velcro strap? Thank you.
I got mine from www.kmtools.com
Very nice job. Gonna steal your levelling idea for my upcoming mitre station build. 😊🤜🤛🏻
Thank you so much! A lot of people brought up the concern that the ceiling mounts may come loose over time. Although I haven’t experienced this issue (yet) I think I would have it be a recessed top mounted next time.
I have a DIY router table without any lift mechanism but I need to upgrade. what are all the rings for. Are they needed?
Not needed per se. I used to have a DIY table that had a gap big enough for my largest bit. It basically just closes the gap up to the bit.
Thanks.
great idea with the miter saw leveling! awesome build brother 👊💪
Ladderouligist🤣🤣🤣 BTW... T'waz nice 2meetU. Thanks for the parking recommendation. Thanks for your kindness. 😎
Thank you Deb!
I would of liked to see the leveling process between the two. I have the Gen 1 lift from Rockler and very happy with its performance but no button.
Of course, a year and a half later, the JessEm lift in the video is no longer available, on Amazon. 🙁
I wonder if they are having a hard time keeping up with demand or if they are phasing it out for an improved version. What are your thoughts?
Infinity Tools and Lee Valley both have it in stock. I bought the Jessem lift II this past February, and never looked back. Great lift - from the leveling screws to the tensioning, to the fact that it's a standard plate size...
I just bought one. Not hard to find. Even Amazon.
The Rockler blue rings and pop out feature is awesome as well the adjustment of the bits... &Gimmick??? you decide?
This is specifically for palm-routers, yes or no?
Great question. They fit up to 3.5” routers if I remember right.
You just pushed your "anchor" piece off by a good bit. Folks should learn how to measure. Difference between craftsmen and makers; to huge to mention.
Thanks for sharing. That was merely a demonstration, and I’m sorry if you felt misguided and/or offended by it. I do appreciate you letting us know how bad we are and how great you are. It gives us something to aspire to. I’m enrolled currently in a measuring class and am excited to see if I can inch a little closer to being a real man someday.
And of course, providing feedback without being an over-critical dick is the mark of a basic decent human being. The difference is too huge to mention!
The Jessem hands down.
Great idea!
Thank you!
Thanks for this! Just the info that I needed to decide between these two. Also looking at the Kreg, but it looks like just a variation of the Rockler…..
So glad we could be of help!
Hi this is definitely unique mounting system for the saw as it allows precise alignments. I am looking into building a miter station for my new saw. You definitely did the right thing by using Loctite thread locker as an added insurance. Since it has been over 6 months how is this system holding up? Are there any recommendations you may have if you were to build another one again? Thanks in advance for any insights you can share.
All the potential concerns I had have not become concerns. The system hasn’t loosened or anything. I still have the thought of the screws possibly coming loose some day and if I had to build it again I may do recessed through bolts to suspend the carriage, just for added peace of mind.
@@FirstFruitsDesignCo Thanks for a prompt response. I agree on driving the bolts deeper. Here are a couple of other ideas you may want to consider. Instead of the Blue thread locker you can use Red thread locker. Blue is a temporary thread locker that can be loosened where as Red is a permanent one that can't be unthreaded once cured. Other option could be using epoxy instead of the thread lockers which will also make it permanent like the Red thread locker. Just my $0.02. TC.
I just bought the JessEm Rout-R-Lift II from Lee Valley (~$300 CAD), which comes with 3 of the red inserts, not 10. I didn't watch this review first, but it makes me feel better about my choice! My plan is to build a router table top that I can slip onto my workmate (with the lift mechanism between the first and third planks), since my little shed isn't big enough for all the toys that I'd like. If that doesn't work, then I'll make a box for a table top setup instead.
I believe someone commented on a post we did last year saying they built it into their miter station outfeed table. Maybe I liked that idea and may do it in the future
@@FirstFruitsDesignCo I like that idea, but don't have the space for a miter station outfeed table (my entire "shop" is in an 8x10 shed that I can barely move around in.)
@PeeterJoot I’m curious to hear what you do come up with!
Yall made this look so easy, going to give it a shot for my 2 yr old who is so ready to move out of his pack and play haha
It’s a fun project. I do recommend acquiring your lumber through legitimate means, unlike my friend.
Great shootout. Thank you!
Do you remember when cars had a crank handle to roll the window up and down? If youre not using a computer controlled, motorized lift, then you're missing out. MLCS Woodworking has had a motorized lift for many years. Its hard to believe people still buy crank handle lifts when you can get a lift that accurately moves in .001" increments, has the ability to store position locations, can bring the router up to bit change position with the press of a button, can do plunge operations using the foot pedal, and on and on. You should review the PowerLift Pro from MLCS woodworking and forget that archaic stuff.
Thanks for sharing
Sure and it costs how much?
@@chris8439just your first born, but by giving that up it gives you more time in the shop with a cool tool.
lol 😂
@@chris8439 the Jessem Master lift is $440 and the MLCS PowerLift Pro is $549. It's well worth the difference in my opinion.
Where did you get the T-tracks for the fence (the short black ones in the video)?
I likely got them on Amazon in 48” length and just cut it down on the miter saw. I really like how the black looks against the wood tones.
I’ve had the Jessem Master LiftII for about 5 years now and love it. It has 3 ‘v’ shaped clamps inside itself to hold the router which clamps very securely and no bending of the posts. I’m thinking it was a little over $300 at the time. Not 100% sure. I paired it with a Milwaukee 3 1/2 hp router variable speed. What a beast of a setup!!! I highly recommend this one!!!
I’ve heard nothing but amazing things about the Master Lift. When it comes time for another table or upgrade I’ll definitely check that one out.
Is that the Milwaukee 5625 router?
@@sh0cktim3 yes. It’s the 5625-20
New subscriber here! Glad to have found your channel. You two work great together, and I'm looking forward to seeing how your channel progresses. Also, as an aside, I'm digging the t-shirts and the First Fruits name. He who has ears to hear, let him hear!
Thank you so much for being here with us and we genuinely hope you gain value from our silliness and methods of woodworking!
Totally agree the JesEm is superior to the Rockler and I like Rockler products but this one goes to JesEm hands down. Thanks for the video…..
You’re so welcome. Thanks for watching and sharing!
I like the design for mounting and adjusting the hieght of the Saw. I can definately see using it in my shop. Good video.
Awesome! Glad you like it, and thank you so much!
I actually checked these two out a while back. Came to the same conclusion plus that push button feature is cool, but a possible failure point. Is there a back up way yo release thise pretty blue rings. Also of note, the Jessem comes eith a blank insert so you can cut your own insrrt for your favorite bit. Also Jessem has a lot bigger selection of inserts. so you can find a size very close to the bit you are using. Great review!
Things have changed, I no longer love the button. Releasing the rings is very easy, which is why I don’t like them anymore.
Agree about the color. I'm feeling a grey or army green. As for the suspension mount for the saw, I see your point. I will stick to the traditional cabinet for two reasons: I don't anticipate many changes in the saw I'm using, and I have the ability to adjust the height of the top with bolts much as you have.
Absolutely! Go with what works for you! I’m with you on the grey. I’ll consider the green.
I really like the idea of the T-track sandwich. Not all walls are flush and perfect, so that makes a ton of sense and I'm going to incorporate that in my soon-miter station!
Awesome! So glad you liked that. But let’s be honest, who doesn’t like a good sandwich? 😂
I would never buy another phenolic insert plate. I got the $250 kreg router table and the plate was terribly bowed to the center. Had them send a replacement "precision" router plate. Still bowed. Couldn't even flatten them out with a CNC machine since they warped after cutting. Save yourself the hassle and get a beefy aluminum or steel version and check it with a straight edge before installing.
Excellent advice! Thanks!
I'm not one posting a comment, but your video has inspired me. Two things I noticed. The number is how well you both work together. That is an absolute plus in so many ways, not only when you need that "extra" hand to help hold something, but more so when two brains bring out the best thought processes. Secondly, dust collection. I feel you are aware that glue used in foaming plywood and other materials is harmful to your health. With the way you miter saw discharges upward, it would be easy to connect a shop vacuum. Even if only temporary. I look forward to seeing you both on the next project. Good job!
Thank you so much! And yes, since the last video we’ve hooked up dust collection
No securty glasses😮
You caught me. I really need to do better.
Your video missed altogether the feature that I think is more important that anything else. The ability to lock the router position as adjusted, which the JessEm does provide. Without reaching under the table to lock or unlock.
Excellent point!
Great video, but those little screws holding the ceiling hangers in doesn't seem secure enough. You don't want to get hurt.
I totally see your concern. We’ve been checking them regularly and they haven’t budged. If anything changes we’ll definitely do a follow up video.
Very creative. Thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you.
If the guide bushings are misaligned after installing the router, then you have over-tightened it. Either shim the router with tape to fill the gap, or purchase the correct collar.
I have the JessEm and love it! On the Rockler, I would get some shim stock from the auto parts store and shim the router in the clamp, that should stop the post flex and hold plenty solid.
I think you’re right! I didn’t discard it but it is collecting dust. Maybe I could do a fix video for it some day.
Great idea for a miter saw station and I think if you build a well finished pan to go under the saw and box behind it you should be able to obtain great dust collection. Thanks for the video. You two make a good team and with a little more practice you’ll put out even better videos.
Thanks so much and glad you liked the idea!
I get the top bunk! 😁
Measurologist😂😂😂
Thank you for doing this review. I was on the fence and this really helped.
Awesome! That makes it all worth it.
Beautiful work. What wood did you use? Thanks!
We used hard maple. Thanks for the compliment!
I like what you’ve done. Nice work you two!
Thank you so much! We are getting some great use out of it.
In one year the price of the Jess EM has doubled on Amazon. Wow
I’ve noticed that is the nature of Amazon. jessem.com/ is probably your best bet for consistency in pricing @JessEmToolCompany
I was thinking the same thing
When I (Johnny) was about 4 or 5 years old my older sisters shared a bunk bed. I thought it would be a great idea to remove the slats and then gently place the mattresses back. There was enough friction to hold the mattresses in place, but as soon as they went to dive on the lower mattress it fell through to the floor.
Cause you fancy!
I try!
Nice AXIL ear buds I am looking at getting a pair when I can do you like yours?
Those are Soundgear. They are custom molded and everything. They were covered by insurance, otherwise I wouldn’t afford them.
sorry they looked like them but are still cool@@FirstFruitsDesignCo
@@mnrusticdecor no worries at all. I haven’t heard of those ones specifically. I’ll look them up. The ones I have are for shooting and also connect to comms systems.
Interesting use of alternative materials 😮
Thanks! I honestly felt like I had solved world hunger when this idea hit me. Obviously no where near as profound, but I was excited.
I own the Jessem Master R lift. Absolutely love it..!
Be aware that wenge is susceptible to sunlight. It will bleach out very fast. Very nice bulild tho. Cheers from Germany.
Cheers! And thanks for sharing your knowledge! Great tip!
