Cool
What is the newest subway train of Glasgow???
It's called the 3rd Generation Stock and you can see a few of them in this video. I also plan on releasing a video about the newer trains in the next couple of weeks as well!
Did that guy give you a model of the train?
No haha there was only one and it was his, but he did say that he'd bought it off Ebay so presumably there are others in the world
i was their on for the first bit then did a full circle and i also got interviewed by bbc
Nice!
You can't post this BTW it's private and the driver told you you can't post the tunnels
Really? I don't remember them saying anything like that!
@@MikeWillSeemy pal was there the driver told everyone not to post the video of the tunnel as its private the driver could get fired for it
@@Tylerthescottishguy ah right I hadn't realised that. I'll see if it's possible to edit that part out!
i will miss them, stay quite near the subway have many stories and very fond memories thanks btw x
The real question is- Why do people on the London Tube escalators stand on the right? It's just the Tube, if you go on other escalators anywhere else in the UK people stand on the left Aussie style. Weird.
Can't say I've noticed that. Most people I know automatically go to the right on escalators even if it isn't the tube. The only exception I can think of is in shopping centres etc. where people stand on both sides (or even in the middle!) because they're not rushing around as much so don't leave space for others to overtake!

"This disabled seating area is so spacious. It's fantastic. Lots of space for wheelchairs, OR BIKES!" So what is it? Is that area a REAL disabled seating area? Or is the space that a guard's van would have for bikes? If it had guards/parcels area. As a disabled person who, because of my specialist scooter, is barred from ALL buses and trains, in Britain, (10 cms too long, because it is fitted with anti-tip wheels at the rear), you seem very vague on exactly what that "Disabled Seating Area" is for. Bikes can go and take up space, so a mobility scooter, or wheelchair, won't get the space? Mixed messages there, which further alienate the disabled passengers.
Unfortunately it seems to be the case that on most commuter trains, it is a shared-use space which can be used by both bikes or wheelchairs depending on requirements, and whilst I'm absolutely supportive of having those spaces being properly separated out, I was purely commenting on how the provision here seems to be much larger than on other equivalent trains!
Should of showed up in a Aston Martin
That's a little beyond my budget 😅
Hi
We need level boarding.
Agreed
Hi
ah yes, the defunct manufacturer of metrocammell
I went on the Island line a couple years ago for the first time, and missed my chance to ride on the 1938 stock... but these are definitely an upgrade for accesibility and reliability purposes. Good video!
The last cars from the TransClyde era are going away. What a run.
I was on one of those back in 1984!
Flabbergasted Mr Marshall wasn't there! Good content though.
Yeah there were surprisingly few big-name KZreadrs there(at least that I recognised) - glad you enjoyed the video!
Did anyone notice at 3:50 it said ‘Break *** for, Emergency ***😮

@@liamphilbin7256wtf are you saying?
anyways I’ve seen it on the train irl lol
Managed to travel on my last car no.119 in September 2023. Love the Glasgow subway so will miss the MetCamms. Great video btw.
Thank you very much, I'll definitely miss these units as well!
The class 701s are already in service
Correct, they entered service about 6 months ago
I love the indent on the seat so people who are tall have more legroom that’s really nice
Yeah there's some nice details on these trains, but the legroom is already so good that I don't think it'll be an issue for tall people anyway!
You a earned subcriber
Thank you!
Micheal willu come to edinburgh to see Tornado
Probably not but I'm not ruling anything out at this stage!
They look lovely and sound lovely but their starting acceleration js slow as shit now. Not sure if drivers are holding back or not.
Hmm I hadn't picked up on that. I wonder if it's because they've had to re-gear them for the higher top speeds or something like that?
Glad that you got to ride them on the final day, great video and they will sadly be missed
Thanks Simon! Funnily enough as you commented this I was in the process of watching your video where you rode on the 2nd gen trains! Anyway you're absolutely right that they're very good trains, well loved by many, and will be sorely missed!
2:33 It would seem I've had a 'so much time and so little to do' moment
Great video Michael! Been quite some time since I last travelled on the 'Clockwork Orange' and it's 2nd gen stock, but was really nice to see everyone enjoying them one last time.
This is utter madness and I love it! 😂 The other crazy thing is I oddly remember the promo Insta story Francis did for this 'didn't know it was a completion' as if it was only posted yesterday. 🤣 Cheers Michael. You've brought a smile to my face on what has overwise been a rather dull day. 😄
Oh wow! Nicely done bud! I'm glad you got to see the final one and ride round the loop for hours! I do hope to go on the subway soon lol although ofc it'll be the new stock I'll be riding!
Definitely worth visiting at least once in your life!
@@MikeWillSee Yeah I'm sure I will do that aha! 👍🏻😆
It was nice talking to you at Partick that day! I grew up with these wonderful trains and I'm very sad to see them go. Now the Subway is nowhere near as interesting to me anymore. That's us at 3:56
Yeah I'll definitely miss these trains too! It was good to see you there that day!
ur very welcome ❤️❤️
Do you have Instagram Michael
I do but it's a private account I use to communicate with my friends. Some day I'll make a public account for this kind of thing though!
I must say that the Class 458/4s are very nice. Will these be used on Reading, Windsor & Eton Riverside and possibly use them on the Alton line.
Not sure at this stage but I wouldn't rule it out!
Windsor Lines are limited to 70mph.
Yeah I think we might have got up to 70 at one point, but mostly we stuck around the 50 - 60 mark
@@MikeWillSee I think I have worked out you went via Hounslow like normal rather than the quicker route via Richmond and that is because of the Automatic Route Setting which is found in Basingstoke ROC.
@@A-Trainspotter-From-Berkshire ah yeah that may well explain it!
You wait at Virginia Water for the Reading services to get in front.
Yeah but not for half an hour! 😅 There was definitely some sort of police incident which ended up delaying our train
On the weekend of the open day at the Martin Place Metro station , not only were the trains not running through this station , but the remainder of the line was closed as well. I discovered this when I attempted to catch the Metro train from Castle Hill station , however the replacement bus trip was interesting - especially the return trip over the Harbour Bridge through the apocalyptic weather scene on that stormy afternoon ! 😮
Oh that's strange, I took a ride on the operational part of the metro after filming this video and it seemed to be fine!
The Martin Place Metro open day was on a different weekend .@@MikeWillSee
@@murraykitson1436 ah my mistake, I hadn't read your comment properly!
@@MikeWillSee All is forgiven !
I was in London that day but didn't know that this was going on... rip I think that these might be the best trains on SWR now. They were already very good but this made them even better; the 450s just don't come close anymore!
Ep: 23 Highbury and Islington (overground) ? Just a suggestion
I think you meant to comment this on Geoff Marshall's newest video, not mine!
I love how they kept their introduction quiet but a very interesting video and really does look a wonderful refurbishment.. apart from the toilet you would had thought they do the toilet as well.
Yeah there's didn't need to reinvent the wheel in the toilet, just a simple lick of paint would make an enormous difference!
I guess I'm lucky to see the old version being pulled past Crewe.
Probably on its way to be refurbished
@@MikeWillSee Thank you so much for replying!
Are South Western going to be getting rid of the old mainly red (with blue and yellow doors) train colours too?
Yep, that whole fleet of trains (455s and 707s) are set to be replaced by the 701s, which feature the new colour scheme
@@MikeWillSee Sweet!
I actually love the modern dark livery it’s my favourite livery ever
@@tylore69 I agree. Much nicer and certainly cleaner looking than the red yellow and blue.
Apparently the plan to use these on the Portsmouth Direct Line was abandoned earlier this year? Or was it just put on hold?
Yeah I remember hearing about that as well. I can only assume that it's still the long-term plan for these units, otherwise why bother introducing them into service?!
@@MikeWillSee What would happen to the 444 and 450 Desiros if or when these come into service?
@@dominicbarden4436 I think the plan is (or was?) to redeploy them elsewhere on the SWR network, at least for the 450s One of SWR's promises upon obtaining the franchise was to move the 450s off the Portsmouth Direct line since the 3+2 seating doesn't really lend itself to the long distances, and as such was unpopular with passengers. I think it's less of an issue with the 444s as they have 2+2 seating which is better for longer journeys such as the lines to Portsmouth, Southampton, Weymouth
@@MikeWillSee Ah ok. I have a soft spot for the Desiros as I grew up with them in a way: when my family would visit my grandma down in Liss (I'm from the Midlands) we'd often take the train into Pompey. I preferred the 444s over the 450s though, even though I think we ended up using the 450s more (I think the 444s tended to be used more on Weymouth services or heading to Pompey via Basingstoke and Southampton rather than Guildford?)! And I've always loved the sounds the traction motors make when the trains are arriving and departing. It'd be a shame to see them leave the Direct Line serivices.
Pompey direct on slow trains?😅
Yeah it'll definitely take a bit of getting used to, but they've been refurbished to such an extent they should actually be an upgrade when compared to the current stock!
What services do these trains run on and what days are they in service?
According to a recent IanVisits article, they're scheduled to run on the following services (all via Brentford): 05:31 Hounslow to London Waterloo 06:22 London Waterloo to Weybridge 08:02 Weybridge to London Waterloo 15:22 London Waterloo to Weybridge 17:03 Weybridge to London Waterloo 18:37 London Waterloo to Twickenham This also makes sense of my experience, as in this video I got the 15:22 and 17:03 Nonetheless if you want a bit more certainty, you can confirm with people on the RailUK Forums, or check the aforementioned services on RealTimeTrains, where if you find them and then go into 'detailed' mode and then press 'show train information' at the top, it will sometimes display the unit number, or if not then it should display the train's top speed, which for this unit is 100mph
@@MikeWillSee ok
Another lovely video by Michael! Can't wait to ride these soon!
Lovely to meet you! Great video, these are certainly overall good trains for SWR (and seeing this in my recommended has inspired me to stop procrastinating the edit)! ~ Daniel
Yep, Michael is much better than me at editing lol
I agree
