Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.
My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.
Thanks to my wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.
In 1999 Texbiker.net was born to help my fellow bikers have ready access to all of the information about the Texas bicycling scene.

Hey I'm doing that. I just did the Katy Flatlands. 104 miles. 😊
You should have no problem then with HH100. Good ride at Katy.🚲😀
Are u OK?
Thanks for asking. I am having a health issue plus the aftermath of hurricane Beryl. Not sure when I'll be back on the bike.
Awww hope u feel better soon. My husband watches ur channel. He mountain bikes. We live in Houston too @@RickAnkrum
@@RickAnkrum the hurricane was awful 😞
@@Ashleyiza Thank you. Hope you have recovered from Beryl. Thanks for watching my channel.
@@Ashleyiza Yes. Many days without electricity. I live where there are thousands of trees making it hard to clear the lines and get power back on. I still see repair trucks going on my street.
Correction, those Army service members were a mix of Active Duty and Army Reserves NOT national guard.
Nice video sir! 😁
Definitely too hot for costumes it was roughly 90 for our parade as well
Tell that to the kid I saw in a hotdog costume
Free Pizza!?
I didn't see any
1:42 the famous Peters Strokers intersection
Bike is very cool 😎 🚲
That bike is 🔥🔥
I took the Ameri-Trail and broke my rear derailleur....had to push my bike back. Cannondale Bad Boy 3.
It was too tough for me to complete. I moved to the gravel roads. sorry for the break.
@@RickAnkrum Those mosquitos went crazy as soon as I stepped off the bike. I did see a couple deer in another area.
@@travis5738 I think I was early enough that the mosquitos had not arrived yet. I imagine they are thick now.
Using shoulders like at 7:42, how often do you get a flat?
Not very often. I ride Gatorskin tires. Pretty durable.
How do you like your Helix? I just ordered one. What group did you get? Is your free hub loud or is it just the recording?
Thanks for watching and asking. I like the Helix. Since I bought it I added another bike to my fleet and that bumped the Helix down to #3 on my preference list: #1 Cervelo Caledonia, #2 Canyon Endurace CF7, #4 Trek Marlin 8 MTB. I got the SRAM Rival AXS etap group which I have on the Cervelo and Canyon. I really like electronic shifting. I added the Rival Power Meter crankarm and ICAN Cycling Alpha 46 carbon wheels. The freewheel is noisy but I tune it out now. I have the same wheels on the Cervelo and Canyon. The Helix feels harsh when I ride over rough roads compared to the carbon framed Cervelo and Canyon. There is a street with about 100 feet of rough cobbles that I use to compare the road absorption. The Helix weighs about 4 pounds more than those bikes too. The harsh ride and extra weight are the reasons it is #3. I've put 4246 miles on it. I wanted to experience a titanium frame bike. I also owned a Lynskey R300 with Ultegra mechanical groupset. I sold it and bought the Helix. Enjoy your new bike. Let know what you think of the Helix.
Awesome ride. 👍🏼 Thanks for sharing.
Cool ride. 👍🏼 I’ve driven to BBNP, but didn’t have time to stop at the Stillwell house. Hope to bike through that area sometime. Ride safe.
Thanks for watching. Ride on
I have a marlin 8 gen 2 from 2022 ,its great I upgraded some parts and its great ,I live on the south side of México City on the mountain side and lots of steep streets some like S anfrancisco California 👍🚲 KZread ( BRIAN RIVAS OCONER)
Fantastic. I have rode mine too much yet but I will make plans.
Until I got into my 60's (I'm now 72) I used to do a lot of riding on roads like you do (lived in Austin from 1973 until 2020). I now do most of my riding on local hike/bike trails (mostly paved) in the Pflugerville area where I live. As I've gotten older, I still love cycling but no longer ride road bikes. I prefer mountain bikes (I have both a full suspension and two hard tails) and my crank forward semi-recumbent bicycle I bought last year from Phoenix Bike Wrx. These bikes use MTB tires, which are less susceptible to flats. They aren't as fast as road bikes, but I'm okay with that these days. I just want them to work well, and to provide a good workout without the incessant worry of dealing with motor traffic. Be careful out there!
I have a MTB but have not rode it much. No handy trails to ride on. I like walking out the back door and getting on my bike to ride. Maybe as I get older that will change. Thanks for commenting and watching.
When I see you riding by the cars, it always makes me nervous. 😂
The video makes them seem to be closer most of the time. There are some exceptions though.
You look salty
Lots of sweat stains
Wind! 10meter gust of 35 while I was riding yesterday. So probably 25-30 at 6’. Ugh. And dogs here (south of Lubbock 15-20 miles) are crazy. I had to alter my routes a few years ago because everyone thinks they have to have several dogs! Enjoyed your video! Thanks!
No mountains or hills around here so we have wind to make up for that. Dogs are the surprise element. I altered one route a couple of years ago because 2 dogs hung out there every day. Thanks for watching.😀
Glad you got a ride in. I did clean up again.
Fun ride 🚴🏾♀️
Nice ride Rick
More mud!? Yikes!
I thought it might have dried up with no rain for 6 days.
Great video! I’ve driven this route, and hope to do it on a bicycle someday. Thanks for sharing. 👍🏼👍🏼
Glad you watched.
Serious mud, WOW!
I didn't mention how sticky it was!
@@RickAnkrum I can't even imagine,
Nice ride route! Do you ever do group rides?
Thanks. I do a few organized rides during the year. Otherwise I ride alone.
You still using gatorskins?
Yes, but wire seems to be a problem for them.
@@RickAnkrum man you get so many flats it's just crazy in comparison to my area.
@@bonbonflippers4298 I hope the streak ends with tomorrow's ride.😂
Really appreciate your website. Out of a dozen top results on Google for cycling events in Texas, yours actually included Bike MS. I’m addicted now and am looking for more rides like that one.
Thanks. Enjoy the rides.
High water ruined day 2 of Bike MS Round Up ride too. Luckily for me I didn’t stay for the second day. Legs had nothing left after Day 1 anyhow.
Sorry you had high water too. Better ride next time.
hello from Wichita falls Texas
Thanks for watching from Wichita Falls
Fun to see you on a mountain bike!
Like a fish out of water
I actually have to wear my helmet when on those kind of trials, lol. And yes the roots are bigger then speed bumps😅
I did not think of them as speed bumps but you are right.
Nice to see you're into mtb now. There are several great trails in the Houston area that you should check out once you get more comfortable on the marlin
I have much to learn. I'll try Double Lake in Coldspring next.
Glad the greenway is back open🚴🏿♀️😊
Nice to ride vicariously in Texas with you Rick, looking forward to the next video.
Glad you came along for the ride. Thanks
That is a beautiful route. I haven't done it in over 2 decades! I think they call that experience :) Thanks for sharing!
One of my all time favorite places to ride at. The route between Marfa and the Park....lots of time for a person to think. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching. This ride was good though I prefer warmer weather.😄
Red looks really sharp on the bike. Are the trails only for cyclists or also predestinations? I'm from the the Netherlands we only have separate lanes for cyclists so its confusing for us.
Thanks. Red is one of my favorite colors. The trails are for cyclists and pedestrians. I have to watch for the other people. I see the trails while watching some of the races.
Wow. Absolutely beautiful. Love it.
Quite different from Houston!🙂
Next best thing to new bike day is watching someone else ride their new bike. Hope you enjoy it, looks nice.
I agree. Thanks. I'm a roadie so getting comfortable on a MTB will take time.
@@RickAnkrum If you find yourself struggling with the lack of familiar hand positions you might consider adding a bar end on the inside of grips to mimic the hood position. I have that on one of my flat bar setups and love being able to switch positions. Might look a little strange at first but it's worth it for me. Anyways, love your videos and passion for riding. My wife and I left the Huffman / KW area last year so I always enjoy seeing you ride through the bike paths and areas we're familiar with.
@@cattalkbmx Good idea. My last MTB had bar ends and today as I rode I remembered that. I think I will add them for more hand positions. Thanks for watching.
Looks beautiful out
It was a nice temperature and not much wind.
Like your bike tour videos
Thanks. I watch your rides in RGV.
Congrats on your + mileage goal!🎉
Gatorskins are tough but they ride like it too. Vittoria Rubino Pro is a much more supple and fast tire + durable enough for my road program. Your results may vary.
It's been some time since I rode on Vittoria tires. Back then they had a hard time with the road debris I have on the shoulders. Maybe they have changed.
Ever thought about going tubeless with maybe 35c tires? The amount of flats you get seems so often that its like ever other week
I have thought about tubeless. Maybe when these tires wear out. They are not maintenance free though from I read. Change the sealant in 6 months, keep the valve stem from clogging. The recent run of flats started when a sharp rock caused a flat. Before that flats rarely happened.
I swear by Schwalbe Marathon Plus. Not a fast tire, but I've had very very very few flats.
I will check them out. I've seen other people mention the Marathon Plus. Thanks
Looks beautiful there. I hope that you had an enjoyable ride.
It is but I like it warmer.
Now i understand why you prefer gatorskins over some more supple/faster tires. You get alot of flats! Id definitely be using a similar tire if that was happening often. I hope to be still riding when I get to your age!
The roads have a lot of debris. Normally the Gatorskin tires are very durable. Thanks for the support.
💥 "Promo SM"
How wide are those tires?
700x28mm Continental GatorHardshell
GCN was reviewing road tires in the 30s mm! Incredibly wide
@@pwang01 I saw that. The wheels that came with my Cervelo Caledonia have 30mm tires. I've never used them having replaced them with another set of wheels.
