Where’s Johnny Carson when he’s needed most???
For info on the rock band Freeway that plays at 1:00:07, a search in Google for “Freeway Waldorf Astoria 1971”, finds a New York Times article from May 16, 1971, called “Band Born on L.I. Hits the Big Time”. Some highlights from the article: The band was formed on Long Island around 1966 by 15-year-old Phil Galdston and 16-year-old Richie Bronsky and was originally called Cisum (Music spelled backwards), then became Daybreak, and finally Freeway. In 1971, there were 10 band members including Galdston, Bronsky, Ira Mellman, Jeff Sigman, Josh Segal, and John Kingsley. Galdston was a junior at Union College in 1971 and previously attended Great Neck South Senior High School. Freeway played for five weeks at Wheels on Second Avenue in NYC in the summer of 1970. And played with Paul Anka in Miami Beach in December 1970. They were to play with Anka at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas in the summer of 1971 and be featured on a National Educational Television special in the fall of 1971.
Thank you for sharing all of these wonderful shows!! Takes me back to my childhood - fighting with my parents to stay up late so I could watch TV. 😂 Please keep them coming!!
Hard to believe those two guys are still in the senate. At that point, McConnell had been a 4 time elected senator, and has been elected 3 more times since. Schumer at that moment was a 2 time elected senator, and has been elected 3 times since. They are covered in layers of swamp mud. Career politicians Republican or Democrat do nothing to help this country

I read that Della Reese once suffered a brain aneurysm during a taping of The Tonight Show when Richard Dawson was guest host, is that true? Della was definitely touched with an amazing voice.
I spent too much time hating on Leno simply because I was a Letterman fan. I can now appreciate they were both great ...just different

1:10. It's Stuart!
That bad was loud and very big. Drummer was going crazy, and the singer was the boss but off key.
No show is ever so bad that it can’t be made worse with an appearance by Buddy Rich. Jesus what a bore. Carson would come to hate this guy, and you can see why. Pretty awful show across the board.
The ed McMahon thing was ridiculous. As much as I like him.

One of Johnny’s lesser monologues and that tie has to go!!

I remember this age of fashion. Wide ties and wide lapels.

I'm 68 and grew up watching Johnny Carson. Even remember some shows from when I was a pre-teen. I wish I knew the year it was (but it had to have been early 1970's) when Johnny was doing a Carnac spot he uttered the curse: "May a diseased yak drop its cud in your cuff!" I thought that was a funny line and for the following several months that's all my parents heard out of me whenever I was scolded for something. If anyone has that episode, I'd love to see and hear that again.

My second Johnny Carson show I ever watched just now and it is awful. One of the dullest shows I've seen. How this show lasted must have been as relief for insomnia.
It’s so great to hear someone sing a song “straight”and beautifully!!!
Scott Vincent V/O'd the station ID before this edition started.
Don Pardo, of all people, V/O'd the station ID / Sha Na Na promo.
That was Hal Simms at the start on the WCBS ID / promo for "Tattletales." Bob Hite V/O'd the Evening News.
Where, I ask, (and no doubt the Archive would have the answer) was the circular test pattern WSBK used prior to sign-on?
