My brother, you have done well for your Iwhoruoha people but the Gospel would have been better served if you left the politics for another occasion. I have never lived in River State or been closely associated with an Ikwerre person but I understood nearly everything you said. Despite your best efforts to differentiate the two peoples, the jury is still out on why there is so much in common between Ikwerre and Igbo languages. You also made a point about "rumu" and "umu" and tried to blame Ndigbo whereas it was done by the foreign missionaries. Given your deep knowledge of Igbo language and culture, you sure would know that Owerri (Owere), Enugu (Enugwu), Onitsha (Onicha), Abakaliki (Abakeleke) Asaba (Ahaba), Awka (Oka), Amawbia (Amaobia), etc. all suffered the same colonial alteration. Nevertheless, congratulations on producing the Bible in your language.

Reading all the comments and i’m realizing that there’s a lot of learning and unlearning to do. the ikwerre people migrated from benin and the only reason why our language sounds anything like igbo is because we had to learn one of the three main languages of the country to get basic amenities and because we were closest to the igbos, we learnt theirs. There are words in ikwerre that still have their bini roots.

Rinds Igbo words were borrowed to spice up the guttural Inwhuruhohna speech. Your musicians shy away from either using your tongue or bini in their music. Is that why Duncan Mighty and Mercy Chinwo profusely use Igbo in their music?

All the great tones reminds me the Imo state broadcasting corporation in the early 90's, there is always a program on Saturday evening called cultural music from Rivers state and ikwerre musicians and Etche dominates that radio programme, Jimmy Cantor of blessed memory, Tufiakwa group, Promoter Eze, Show Promoter etc, enough of this argument of who is Igbo and who is not, Ikwerre reserved the right and Ikwerre can be whoever they chooses to be, as long as I will go to any village markets in Ikwerre land and I will use my Mbano Igbo dialect and everyone will understands me without any stress, so who cares about whos identity,

I am here to enjoy IKWERRE traditional music (which I have been obsessed with from childhood) and NOT TO GET INVOLVE in the argument of whether Ikwerre is Igbo or not. Igbo-bu-Igbo, biko nu, let Ikwerre be what they wish to be. Stop forcing to be Igbo which they don't think they are (whether rightly or wrongly). BTW, I am from Imo State. My grandfather (who is said to have reincarnated me... lol) was good in "Ubor playing". I actually had one while growing up in Lagos. Sadly, I broke it and haven't been able to replace it. Meanwhile, Show Promoter Eze's classic (Iam sorry Comfo) remains an anthem in my part of Imo State. Ikwere Meka nu! Igbo mma mma nu! Egbe bere, ugo bere ....
