I'd love to see this video repeated to show the issues and opportunities in middle and outer suburban areas and in towns, especially where transport corridors have been developed since car travel became dominant.

I wish they had anything like this where I live. They want to charge 2500-3500 a month for artist lofts here and want you to earn 3x the rent in income. How many artists make that much money??

Nice project and good to see examples of adding access to waterfronts, and just better pedestrian links in general. For anyone that wants to find this on google maps, the walkway entrance is at 677 Broadway, Albany NY 12207 (use google maps street view), or by searching for the Albany Skywalk. Better access for pedestrians and bicycles can contribute a lot to communities and neighborhoods. Using a highway ramp is an interesting approach, but highway structures are built to support cars, so they can cost more to maintain and certainly cost more to build than pedestrian-only bridges. Years ago I was visiting Richmond, Virginia and saw the Belle Isle suspension bridge. A (fairly) lightweight pedestrian bridge was suspended below the Robert E. Lee highway bridge. It provided great access to the park below, and the loads (weight) it adds to the highway bridge are minimal. Given the Richmond and Albany examples, increasing access is a great improvement to an area. But if an idea is too costly and not implemented, it benefits no one. So it's worth it to be creative and seek out cost effective ways to get the job done, so we can walk and bike everywhere!

What's the next phase of this project? Even though this was a small portion extension of East River waterfront, there must be future projects for more expansion. For as long as I have been a cyclist, I have always dreamed about cycling the entirety of the 32 mile Manhattan loop.

I drove down there last week to check it out. All I scene was all the homeless people wrapped in blankets sleeping underneath it. Not to mention I passed several different people pan handling. It amazing me that the Capital is giving away unlimited money and resources to illegals immigrants. Who a majority are men between 18 to 55. All of them all able bodies doing absolutely nothing but but burning up all the nation resources. I advise not visiting this so called walk way unless you have several friends with you. It just doesn't look safe with everything happening down there. That's just my opinion...To each is own..

This park isn't popular, has virtually no amenities other than a tiny strip of green, and is full of homeless people and drug addicts. Super dangerous at night. It was a waste of taxpayer money, so of course the Democratic leadership love it. Go visit 6 months out of the year in 30 degree weather then ask if those potholes along your route could have used that money.

Typical albany shit....a waste of money...where are the after school centers?... community outreach facilities? Sports programs? Urban league? Not on the river..you still have to walk across a roadway to get to river front. Clearly, like most of these roundabouts this was a way to run up the budget to get more funds from the federal government. Signed..Albany resident😡

I live in watervilet and commute using the bike lane and skyway into albany on my E bike and scooter that can go 30mph, I don't give much a fuck about anything mentioned in the video, I can commute from the nearest major cities in under 30 minutes and not spend 40+ a week in gas because I can go back and forth on a single charge 787 bike lane to skyway. But sure take your damn victory lap for now. I can work in the city with less commute costs but the cost of living crisis here is exponential and this isn't enough. I assume pedestrians don't like e bikes or scooters sharing the infrastructure with them but fuck em, bonus points to me who's carrying pesticides through the park all the time fuck you DEC regulate my balls

Certainly! If anything it's just another piece of "sidewalk" that exists in the city. Not a lot of people are walking on it. There's no benches to sit on, no greenery (fake or real) to somehow beautify it. As with most projects/works sketches will be different from the actual thing, but...as a city we were hoping for more.

If you saw the park today you wouldn't recognize due to the fact that the Local so called "Graffiti" punks destroyed it with layers of paint and I imagine the city gave up trying to keep it nice. It looks like a apocalypse broke out with trashed improvised ramps and trash highlighted by the Lamest graffiti and scribbles you ever have seen. I use to take my boys to skate it but now I won't even bother going alone. Such a shame really. 😡
