  @Azothify please google any newer bike, example: Trek Slash, and look at their frame and tell me does that bike or any other mtb has protector like the one in the video? It does, because when going fast over rough terrain your derailleur cage moves back and forth and makes the chain hit your frame..

  No need for it to be that thick. Mud will get caught in it and now your chain and gears wear down faster. Chain will hit this more because it's stupidly thick. A thin piece of rubber works perfectly fine
