    Depending on the version of Sigil you are using, the title that displays on the top of each page in an e-reader is found in the content.opf file. If it is just the text you plan to change on the xhtml page, but you cannot see it, then you may be looking at the source code. To view the preview you can go to Help>preview, and open the preview window so you can "see" the text. (Also View>Preview) If this is an older version of Sigil, then just double click the TAB of the page and the preview will display instead of the source code.

    Very interesting. So, to upload my Kindle book, I'd have mty HTML file (with its nomral hyperlinked toc) in the folder and some sort of opf file for the Logical Table of Contents (ncx)?

  • @UnrulyGuides
    @UnrulyGuides2 жыл бұрын

    Sigil creates the NCX file automatically, then you create the HTML, as in the Video. Note this is Sigil 7.2, an older version, and some menus may have been moved or renamed. This year (2021) Amazon no longer accepts MOBI files, so when you are done simply upload the EPUB file.

    Hey, I finished an epub, I did it on sigil and calibre, so I want to put it on itunes and sell it, but itunes tells me there is an error, I up it on validator.idpf.org/ and appears this: Error while parsing file 'attribute "width" not allowed here; expected attribute "abbr", "align", "axis", "char", "charoff", "class", "colspan", "dir", "headers", "id", "lang", "rowspan", "scope", "style", "title", "valign" or "xml:lang"'. The results from the validator will tell you what page and line the error lies. Without seeing the html I can't really diagnose the issue. It appears, however that this is a table. If you could go to the offending code on the page, and send then I can help you with that.

    You upload and epub/mobi file to a media folder just like an image and then link to that file. If your site is a "blog" or Wordpress type site, first Upload the epub or mobi to the media folder and then "place" that file on the page. That will create a text link to the file, which people can click and download. However, if you are trying to sell the book, then you don't want to have a "free" link from your site as that would defeat the purpose, eh? Essentially, you can do a search on the internet for "how to link to an image" and that will bring up a lot of information as well ;) Hope this helps, s

    If you are building the site yourself, then the process is the same, except you have to "link" to the epub location. Not knowing how you are building your site (hand coding, or using something like WIX, it's little hard to give full instructions. However, you still need to link to the epub/mobi file just like linking to a website. I am uncertain why you need to view the "epub" if they are purchasing it through e-junkie, though. For ejunkie, just add the link to the source code of your page.

  • @UnrulyGuides
    @UnrulyGuides8 жыл бұрын

    Sunday, There aren’t any page numbers in an ebook. Ebooks are reflowable. This means that the text that displays on a screen from device to device will be different. Also, users can enlarge or decrease the text size, which will “reflow” the text. If you have a print book, then Amazon, for example will “estimate” the pages and display this on the bottom of the page… otherwise, it displays as locations and/or percentage read.

    if you have access to an editor that can do find/replace with regular expressions, you can rename the epub to .zip (an epub is a zip of html and image files plus an index). Then use the regular expression [^\.?!]</p> <p class="calibre1"> as a 'find' (basically any line that doesn't end in period, question mark or exclamation mark and a single space as a replace. If your editor can limit changes to a selected area, use that, and then 'replace all' within the block you've selected (assuming you're not selecting areas that should be in vertical format so you're just converting a bunch of separate lines into paragraphs. I'd suggest EditPad as the editor to use.

    When I copy/paste text with images, I can see the images on the program, and when I export the file, I can open it with Readium (for Chrome) and see the pictures, unlike MoonReader (Android), that doesn't load the images. Do you know why?

  • @UnrulyGuides
    @UnrulyGuides8 жыл бұрын

    +Adriano Garcez the images you place in your text (Word Document) are linked to their location on your computer. However when you move the file to another device, the link is broken. The images must be included with the file, so be sure they are listed in the Images folder. Next, make sure they are RGB color (not CMYK) and JPG, PNG.

    hello, i have a problem when validating it appers like this :This resource is reachable but not present in the OPF <manifest>. "Reachable" means that a reference of some kind that points to this resource exists in the epub. thanks in advance

  • @UnrulyGuides
    @UnrulyGuides9 жыл бұрын

    Jay Tolentino This means that a file (image, Stylesheet, et) is placed or referenced somewhere in your book but the actual file doesn't exist so is not "recorded" in your OPF file. The warning it should indicate the file name/page and line number of the error. If you could please supply the full error text that would be helpful. If it was a page (xhtml) then simply recreate the TOC "Generate Table of Contents", resave and validate. If it was a CSS file, then it means that one or more of your "pages" is referencing a file that does not exist. FYI If a Warning is "yellow" it means you have something like an image or stylesheet in your IMAGES or STYLES folder that is NOT being used anywhere in the epub You can just delete unused files.

    in4red Marketing Unfortunately, as I say in the video, PDF is an end product and you can't create an ebook (epub/Mobi) from PDF with one click. Depending on the complexity of the project, the results (clean-up required) will vary. But there will be clean up. Sadly, there is absolutely no way to convert cleanly and perfectly from PDF to any format. The video was to show how you can extract your information into a useable format (Word, for example) in order to create the ebook. Of course, starting from the original layout (Word, InDesign) is best. If you need help, contact me through my site UnrulyGuides.com and I'll be happy to help -- Suz

    how do you change the font size?

  • @UnrulyGuides
    @UnrulyGuides9 жыл бұрын

    You can change the font size of any of your styles using 'font-size' in your CSS. e.g.: p.larger { font-size:110%; } Font sizes are based on the paragraphs <p>, which (at 100%) is about 12 point. So to adjust the size you increase or decrease the percentage. font-size:110%; will make the typeface 10% larger than 12 point or about 13.2 point You can also apply a font-size to headings (rather than using the default size) to make them less heavy; Remember that 100% is 12 point, so if you want your chapter headings at 18 point, use 150%. h1 { font-size:150%; } NOTE: you can use actual point sizes and/or em values, but I find percentages work best for me. Here's a great article on sizing: css-tricks.com/css-font-size/

    can i change the font size for an entire book at once? changing the code requires one by one changes.

  • @UnrulyGuides
    @UnrulyGuides9 жыл бұрын

    Blondes are from Heaven If you want to change the 'default' font size for the entire book then use the "body". However, note that the em value varies on different readers: 12 point on some, 16 point on others. Also note that people can adjust their readers to larger and smaller sizes for reading, so unless you want to force it to be a certain point size (!important) I don't recommend using it. body { font-family: "Times New Roman",serif; font-size: 1em; } OR you could change the default paragraph size: p {font-size:130%;} To learn more of what you can do with CSS check out www.w3schools.com/css/ While it if for web browsers, it will give you a base understanding of CSS and HTML, and how to apply it to an ebook.

  • @UnrulyGuides

    This video is the Electronic Copyright application and you can upload a PDF (and I believe Word) file of your manuscript. They ask for it during the registration process. There will also be a place to upload the PDF after you have paid the fee. The process takes about 3 months (yep, that long) and you will receive by mail your registration certificate. In the mean time you can publish your book while you are waiting. Though they recommend you register 3 months prior to publishing -- should you be wanting to obtain and include your Library of Congress data in your print book. ;) You can also opt to mail in your registration form but the fee is higher.

  • @meggiewl

    on the copyright instruction, it says that one person $35, for all other files $55, so I don't know if it is because that it contains both of our name, so it processed to $55.

    A Copyright in the US for a literary work is $35. If you are registering your published (print) book then they ask you send two copies to them. Otherwise, you upload a PDF of the file for ebook copyright.

  • @UnrulyGuides
    @UnrulyGuides10 жыл бұрын

    align is not a valid attribute in ebooks, It needs to be a "class" ( class="center" and then a CSS created such as h2.center {text-align=center; } However, it appears that you already have a class (scrivener26) assigned to your h2 tag. I would go to your CSS, and add the alignment attribute text-align=center; to your scrivener26 declaration. Then the align="center" in your HTML needs to be deleted.

    Ebooks do not have "page numbers" since they do not really have "pages". eText flows like a roll of paper towels - showing only so much text on the screen at one time. And depending on the e-reading device and size of the text (users can make it larger or smaller for reading) a different amount will show at one time.
