I was a fan of Martin and Lewis as a kid. Years ago when Joe Pesci had a TV series (I don't remember the name) I got to work on the show because my dad knew the producer. Well, I was surprised one day to be an extra in a scene with none other than Dean Martin. He was so nice. I still have his autograph. The producer also knew Jerry and got us tickets to his show in Vegas and arranged for us to meet him. He acted like a big goofball backstage. He had me laughing so hard. He was so nice to me too. I still have Jerry's autograph too. People say he was an ass but he was cool to me.

2024 and still there are studios hunting for missing TV shows with armies of lawsuits as well as private collectors who would be willing to negotiate a settlement if they were granted amnesty to release these tapes for public consumption. Most of these deceased performers deserve to be exposed to a younger generation of classic TV and radio fans. 😎

As Jerry said, you don’t make a joke of that song, which is close to his heart and the closing song for his MS telethons. The kid had a chance to do anything he liked, but he chose poorly.

Godard wasn't actually scamming him, as it turns out... He was selling "his rights". Lawyers see it as nothing, but in the indie artists' reality it would have made a great difference if he had been able to say: "with the kind permission of Jean-Luc Godard" :) Not only Poe is indie... Godard, "too" :)

Love watching this interview with Howard so wonderfully expressive of his Soupy appreciation tales. Our family grew up with Soupy in Detroit in the early 50's where he had TWO shows on every day of the work week---Lunch with Soupy (later Breakfast with Soupy) and SOUPY'S ON at 11 PM, which was kind of a "Tonight Show" version of Soupy in which he had singing guests and did super-silly skits with the same style humor/nonsense as his daytime show for kids (or supposed kids: EVERYBODY watched his shows!). It was a real treat to be able to watch him 10 shows a week for years, an then watch him grow in popularity and fame as he eventually went national in New York and Los Angeles. Soupy would even show up at things like charity softball games (where we filmed 8mm home movies of him) and store openings. Great fun silly good times.

First of all, so called "Jerry Lewis" wasn't his real name. There was nothing wrong with his actual birth name, Joseph Levitch. He obviously "sold out" his birth name because of the shallowness of the entertainment industry?! Most likely the change was made as the result of a greedy Business Manager, with perceived notions of greater recognition accompanied with monetary gains? In reality, it's also shows blatant disrespect for one's parents & their family heritage, just to possibly obtain (not earn) a greater buck?!
