Seconds out Time to settle down and watch some of the best (and worst) of British Wrestling finest Saturday 4pm Wrestling stars. A tribute to the time when we all had nothing better to do than shout at the telly whilst wondering who or what the masked Kendo Nagasaki is . A golden much missed period when for a time British Wrestling was the best in the world . So it's over to Kent Walton at ringside ....

In the 60's I used to sit with my Dad on a Saturday afternoon at 4pm and watch these guys and many others whilst Mum got the tea ready. He used to sit on the edge of his seat and live every blow.

Roberts certainly takes a thrashing during this match. He makes for an ideal Face/Hero.

The usual punching and cheating Mick McManus , he fought god belt Brian maxine and maxine beat this cheating McManus , but so did Maxine do sly punches as well to other wrestlers , Maxine is still living he will be 84 in august , Mick McManus passed away in a nursing home he refused food as he missed his wife so much she had passed away before him, he slipped into a coma and passed away ,even the arrival of his friend lord Attenborough at his bedside didn't help , he passed away in 2013 aged 93 . His videos are still on you tube , 💙🩵💚💛🧡

Les Kellett, Bert Royal, Vic Faulkner were the good guys, Mick McManus, Mr. TV Jackie Pallow, The Black Diamonds were the bad guys. My family and I used to watch them all on a Saturday afternoon when I was a kid at school. When he was younger, my PT teacher used to fetch and carry for them when they came to the Spa Centre and he told us some tales. The big name used to openly discuss what moves they were going to pull and which round they were going to make the winning move. I remember old women in the crowd hitting the "villains" with umbrellas when they were thrown through the ropes. It was all good stuff.

If you are lucky once in a lifetime you find a Master of the trade. Rarely will they show off, but they will make life better for those who watch them work. Les Kellett was one of them and I have the pleasure of seeing a couple more in my lifetime! To some, they look like great entertainers, not wrestlers, that was the skill level. They could provide entertainment while wrestling.

Leon Arras was the actor Brian Glover. In his early days as a wrestler, he was on standby in case a wrestler didn't turn up. The French wrestler Leon Arras didn't show , so Brian had to go on. As he wasn't yet famous, they just sent him out as Leon Arras and the name stuck. He was in a tag team with Bobby Graham of Sheffield as The Untouchables.

Les Kellet and Brian Glover two great guys who knew how to entertain the crowd. Brian went on to do great stuff in his acting career. Loved him in Porridge (Cyril Heslop), hilarious. Les was a much loved and respected wrestler by his fellow wrestlers as well as his followers. He may have acted the fool but was excellent at his craft catching many an opponent out. I remember him winning the "ITV Sports presonality of the year", he lived to the grand age of 86. R.I.P. boys, am sure you are still entertaining behind those Peary Gates.
