Maritime Union Of Australia is a strong union, with a long history of solidarity - working for its members, the community and causes such as the environment, an anti nuclear Pacific, land rights and justice for Aboriginal Australians and trade union rights worldwide.
The Maritime Union Of Australia came about as an amalgamation of the Seamen's Union of Australia and the Waterside Workers' Federation in 1993.
But its roots go back to the 19th century and the formation of the first maritime union in the world - the Seamen's Union of Australia in 1872.
The Maritime Union of Australia is internationally recognised for its commitment to the underdog. Aboriginal rights, national liberation struggles in South Africa, Vietnam, Indonesia and Timor, democracy movements in Chile, Fiji and Greece are just some of the causes it has championed over the years.

Watch "Redundancies and other minor matters" for a more rank and file perspective. The offers of solidarity support by other unions were not properly encourages by the MUA. Note the bit where the workers were prevented from stopping the scabs crossing the picket by the MUA itself.

This is not a good endorsement for the union movement. Islamists and leftist alignments have never ended well, historically: Lebanon and Iran come to mind. How about protesting against Hamas the leadership of Gaza that on 6 October broke a ceasefire. Hamas tortures it's own citizens. Furthermore, 33% of all rockets fired from Gaza, from Palestinian Islamic Jihad and Hamas land inside Gaza on their own people. This is a disgrace!

Free Palestine movement = terrorism advocacy No Israeli forces were in Gaza prior to November 2023. Hamas, the government, with massive public support, conducted an actual genocide on 20 Israeli communities and held hundreds of people hostage. Hamas leadership has a collective personal wealth of over 13bn USD, between 4 people. Palestinian territories had a human development index higher than many middle eastern countries prior to Oct 7. Higher than Kuwait. If you start a war and lose, you don't deserve pity or support. Imagine pandering to the Nazi German's like we do to the Gazan's who are basically Islamic Arab Nazis... Gazan children deserve to grow up in a country free of radical lunatics. Also if there are so many starving Gazan's why are they so overweight? If these protesters actually cared about Gazans and people elsewhere in the Palestinian territories they would be condemning Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad.
