Ultra light Nasci 1000 great perch crappie reel 6 lb test tops 30 is plenty for anything 40 or 3500 Penn are larger stippers and great off shore pic up to 20 lb braid the 5-6 6500 are catfish salmon and light offshore many tuna and dorado in 6-7 k reels lots of line capacity for running fish There’s a difference in a 30 3500 I like the 2500-3500 for bass and inshore fishing covers your 30” plus reds and large spec trout for the bass man. No larger than 4 k especially if casting a lot keep the weight down
Thanks for this information Captain. But, may I ask where you shot this video in Florida. Is that snow cover? I know it ain’t Matlacha. I have subscribed.
In the Orlando area. I was under a pavilion where it was shade so the background looks much brighter. It was 75 and sunny.
You are correct 2500 is plenty for a recreational fishing trip!
I have at least fifty different reals, poles, for all kinds of fishing! If you are new to fishing get what is cheap and works! You can catch fish with a stick and line anytime, if fish are in the water in front of you!
A lot of what you guys are saying is the same stuff that has been happening over here in Connecticut. My roommate was first to notice it. Eventually I seen it for myself and how you guys explained it it is exactly what happened here yesterday. It was a bright orb or my friend called it a fireball. To me it look liked it was moving away from us and eventually it disappeared. She said it has happened 3 or more times already..
I can't believe people still trap their line with their forefinger. I was shown how to trap my line with the tip of my thumb by my wife's father. Just the tip. All I do is roll it back to release it.
I’m learning alll the things from this guy😊
I see my cast at about 12:20. Thanks for such a clear explanation and how I can improve. Will be fishing tomorrow and will put your remedy into practice. Thanks.
Saw this a few years ago. Was just this orange orb, maybe the size of a bowling ball, but it was hard to tell. It was about 20ish feet away in the middle of the street when I noticed it, just floating there, and naturally I didnt know what to make of it, as I had never seen anything like it before. My mom was there, thankfully, or I would've doubted my own eyes. We watched from our driveway as it floated up and back toward the houses across the street before dipping below our line of sight and vanishing. It made no sound, moved at able a person's walking pace, and hovered very fluidly. It looked similar to the orb in the Wizard of Oz when the good witch transforms herseld and floats away. It wasn't particularly bright, but it wasn't a flat orange either. I guess it kinda looked like how fire looks from 20 feet away: bright but not close to the point of burning your eyes. To this day it still baffles me, and everytime I recall it I wonder more and more whether or not it really happened. I don't think my mom remembers. At this point it's been relegated to a legend that I tell others when discussing the supernatural. The world truly is a bizarre and mysterious place. Glad to hear other accounts though. Never doubt your eyes, senses, or memory.
A great video with great advice. The slow mo section contrasting the loop shape with and without the haul was very informative. I thought the loops without the haul looked darn good but the ultra tight, pointy loops with the haul were awsome! You are a gifted teacher and caster.
I heard it was witchcraft
Was für einen wundervollen Sound du da machst! Ja ja ja. Wie so sehr, ja. so viel Spaß und Liebe, ja. Nein, es stoppt die Party, wenn sich das Rad immer wieder dreht ... Ja!
Still the best I video out there on how to use braid!
Is that line good for bluegills?
The lightest they make this line is a 5wt. i would usually use a 3 or 4wt rod for bluegill. If you are using a 5 for fish that size, I don't think you would need such an aggressive tapered line.
What for ugly stick gx2
You saved me on some decision making! Going fishing for my birthday!
Capt. Myers, THANK YOU!!! You kept me from throwing away a perfectly good rod with this video tip. I have a Shimano SideStab 1000 I was going to trash because it was slam closing almost every other cast. I was losing baits, bobbers and hooks left and right. Went out the very next day after seeing your video and not 1, not 1 slam closing and it actually casted further and more fluidly too. You're a life save man!!!
Glad I could help! After watching many clients have the same thing happend and break off many lures, I figured this video could help others avoid the same issue.
Great video very well illustrated thanks chris
Enjoyed this. Excellent demonstration and explanation.
Thank you for the stuff at the end. I finally as an adult got me a spinning reel I've always wanted while growing up n seeing em. And I got it and quickly realized i had no idea how to use this. I watched a couple vids and got to it and quickly had my line tangling and couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong. Frustrated and unable to cast I went home and watched many more videos trying to spot what I did wrong. You're video is the only one I seen that explained to stop it with ur finger so that doesn't happen. So THANK YOU so much for that. Now ima hopefully fix my line and try again and hopefully do much better Thank you
I had heard the term tailing loop many times but have never understood what it was until your slow mo
Thank you!
When can u show us the easy note video not helpful better off with random knots
best explanation ty
My first rod and reel is when I'm 14 is the spinning reel and I still using it since
The whole Baitcaster trend is a cultural thing plain and simple , spinning will always be the best all around set up !!
THANK YOU!!!!!!
I am working my way through your videos. This is very helpful. The explanation along with the demonstration in the video makes it clear, almost like I was there taking a lesson. I plan on taking this out the the pond tomorrow. I think you are spot on about us (me) taking my wrist too far back on the backcast. I'll follow your suggestions and see what happens. Thanks!
That is the number 1 casting issue I see in almost everyone I work with.
Thanks
Enjoyed the presentation and explanation. Thanks!
I use mine for lining up my line at the top when casting. Now they removed them.😢
I am going to take this out to a pond near my home tomorrow, and practice them. Thanks!
You're awesome
Hope to join you one day, looks great.
Hello, I have a question for you after looking at several of your videos. I have been fly fishing for several years, but have never been able to get my fly line to do all the things guys like you, who know what they are doing can do. I can get my line out, more or less to where I think the fish will be, strip it in and repeat. This has worked for me and I have caught lots of perch, bass, blue gill, some reds and even speckled trout (blind casting to structure). However, I would like to come make a redfish trip with you for tailing redfish, and go on some float trips out west in drift boats. Being honest with myself, I do not have the accuracy, distance, or even as you pointed out the speed to get my line to a dinner plate size target 40-60' feet away in only two false casts. This is my question: Do you have an order in which you recommend to your students/clients that they work through your videos to become proficient in casting with the accuracy, speed and distance needed for one of your redfish charters? There are lots of videos on the channel. I started with the basic forward cast and roll cast video on your website, trying to imitate what I see you do. However, I can see you have lots of additional videos on the channel that add to what is said on your website videos. It is a lot to digest. I am hoping to make a trip out to your area this Fall, but I am worried I will be working on things that may not be particularly useful on one of your guided trips. I have a 3wt travel, 5wt St. Croix Imperial, 6wt TFO, and 8wt TFO rod I can practice with. Most of my fishing is done with the 3 and 5wt rods. Thanks
This video and my 3 step method - kzread.info/dash/bejne/q4etmLVrh6iYmMY.html can be used to learn the basic stroke. If you want to be able to cast farther and with more accuracy, tight loops and proper line speed are most important. I recommend learning when and how to properly use the wrist - kzread.info/dash/bejne/eJimlrCQfdXHhag.html, line speed - kzread.info/dash/bejne/q6NtsamHZqa4eJM.html, accuracy - kzread.info/dash/bejne/fIyuu9ireqqooKQ.html, and then distance - kzread.info/dash/bejne/n46g2rGPf9OxmZc.html, kzread.info/dash/bejne/goR807Ojqsq-Z84.html If things do not seem to be working, it is likely one of the issues in my Common Fly Casting Problems playlist is causing an issue. When everything is put together properly, you will want to be able to do all the things described in this video - kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZaqGlJmcpdmbZLA.html If you cannot seem to get it to work, I do offer video analysis to identify and correct issues - www.orlandoflycasting.com/video-casting-analysis.html
@@CaptChrisMyers Thanks for your quick and detailed reply. This will help! My plan, hope was, to make some progress and then take you up on the video analysis offer at least once, maybe more if needed. Thanks again!
Thank you so much, sir!! This was an EXCELLENT introduction to spinning reels.
I saw it leave a house in porterville
Hi Chris and Julie, thanks for posting this video. It was a pleasure spending the weekend with you and the others. Take care
Always great playing on stage with you. Look forward to next year.
Will do, thanks
Tip: Make sure you keep it charged. Over time it will slowly discharge and may not recharge completely. I check mine every 2 or 3 months and top off the charge if necessary.
This will be very helpful, particularly the video showing the casts both from the side and the back. Having trouble with this one, but trying to imitate what I see here gives me a goal to shoot for. Thanks.
Enjoyed this, clear and to the point.
I saw that too
Brilliant. Best imagery for casting I've come across. Wish I could have seen this 30 years ago.
Thanks
Excellent video with great demonstrations and examples. Also, first time I heard of practicing having only the fly hit the water. Great idea, will use this. Thanks
Enjoyed the first video, this was even clearer. Great job. I am going to look at more of your video specifically related to Redfish. I was surprised to hear you say in your first video that you had a 10' leader. Would like more on that, with larger saltwater flies it seems to me a 10' leader would be harder to control and land accurately, which I know you think is critical to success for tailing Redfish. Looking forward to seeing your other videos, hope to schedule a trip with you in the future.
I would not recommend anything shorter than a 9" leader with the floating lines we use. If constructed properly, and cast with tight loops, they will lay on perfectly. If the leader gets too short, the fish may spook from the flyline landing too close to them. I know anglers who routinely use 12ft leaders.
@@CaptChrisMyers Thanks for the clarification. This tells me I need to work on my accuracy, using tigher loops, your high to low casting stroke, and having the fly hit the water first practice tips. Will do. When I get make some progress I'll probably take you up on the video analysis offer that is on your website. Thanks again.
When you asked that first question and started reeling I yelled out yes like one of those damn tv ads😂👍🏻
Good video, great one with the mute on. Enjoying your channel, lots of great tips and information.
Thanks 👍
Glad I found your channel, the clearest, easiest to follow tutorials I have seen. Will take these to a practice tomorrow. Hope one day to make a trip with you. Great job!
Glad it was helpful!
@@CaptChrisMyers I wanted to give you a follow up., and a big Thanks! Your accuracy tip to keep the cast high so that when the fly is coming down to the water you can place the fly exactly where you aim, instead of having it float above the water and fall into the intended target was a game changer for me today . Not only is the cast more accurate but it is easier and more consistent. Great tip!
Great job, congrats! Will check our your site.
