Paul VanderKlay

Paul VanderKlay

I am a minister in the Christian Reformed Church of North America. I pastor Living Stones CRC in Sacramento CA www.livingstonescrc.org/

You can find an audio version of this channel on paulvanderklay.podbean.com/ and ITunes at itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/paul-vanderklays-podcast/id1394314333

I enjoy pastoring a small congregation because I enjoy the people. I also enjoy thinking through my faith and discussing it with others.

A word about comments. So far I have been very happily surprised about the quality of the comments in the comment section. My vision of a good comment section is one in which people can actually have a conversation. I don't mind negative comments as long as they are productive.

My church channel has sermons and Sunday School lesson if you're interested. kzread.info/dron/h7bdktIALZ9Nq41oVCvW-A.html

Faith is not safety and security, but the dark way, trusting in the promise of a holy other God who alarms us by adopting a backwoods, Galilean, crucified Jew as his Messiah. Christianity is a faith of imminence, on the way, not immanence, a stail prompt whose ways humanity can intellectually grasp. The theology of Ali, OConnor and yourself align more with a theology of glory but not an eschatology of the cross.

I loved Ayaan's statement, "I choose to believe." It is an act of the intellect and will -- not based on emotion, but also not solely based on logic and reasoning. It is a response to God's thirst, who is always thirsting for us.

47:32 So the Bible literally teaches a "Snow globe Earth cosmology" and is literally false. But the stories of Jesus, the Exodus, the end of the World, heaven, hell etc. are true? Are they "true" in the same sense that the "snow globe Earth" is true? I agree with Holbach "Theology is the science of contradictons" or as Thomas Hobbes called it: "the Kingdom of Darkness"!

When Alex O'Connor speaks of a 'better world' than the one in the Bible, he is speaking from the social imaginary as described by Charles Taylor, the collective intuitions shared in communities formed by modernity and shaped by historical processes leveraged up from the Renaissance, the Reformation and the Enlightenment.......

Is not a world without choice a world without love as love cannot be forced? Alex seems to think there could be a world without choice that was just like the one we know only better. I kept thinking Jonathan might raise this idea but perhaps he’s averse to that sort of apologetic. Also, Alex may be trying his best to listen but I actually didn’t perceive as much openness as I see credited him. Great mysteries cannot be explained completely much less quickly. I hope the corner is praying for him - his eyes look so empty.

Boy Paul, stay on track with your thoughts. You end up going down too many rabbit holes in expressing your thinking. Way too many personal antidotes. You start on an interesting strain of discussion and then run a drift into some sort of esoteric rambling that just confuses your point. I've spent probably hundreds of hours listening to you and am still waiting for you to arrive on a clear point of view on virtually anything. Is being obscure your goal? Try to be clear and to the point. You are in desperate need of a thought editor. I think you have a lot interesting things that are important to hear, yet it is a very frustrating for me to wade through all you little stories to get to your unclear point.

Modernity and the moral decay we're seeing is just the logical conclusion of Christianity. Christianity is, after all, a romanization of a semitic religion. The fingerprints of romans are all over it, beginning with the abandonment of jewish religious law in favor of secularism. This is the logical conclusion of "Render unto caesar," which did nothing but create a moral blind spot, a loophole for immorality. Christians realize now there is no space where God does not have a role. To stem the flow of their errors, Christians are now trying to mimic Jews and Muslims, trying to manually incorporate their faith in government, but they're doing it without God's guidance and grasping at straws. What does it look like when a Jew recognizes Jesus as their messiah, but upholds the law while circumcizing their hearts as well? They become Muslim...aka one who fully submits to God.

Hi Paul. Heres a perspective from the outside. Before Trump decided to run in 2016 the entire nation loved him and certainly his show The Apprentice. As soon as America saw he was running as a republican half the country FREAKED OUT and went after him right away. You mentioned his promiscuous lifestyle which is no doubt true. Money does this or at least enables this behaviour. I would suspect that half the males in the country would do EXACTLY the same if they had his money. We hear about this often with the rich and famous right? Ok. I dont for one minute condone his actions BUT people CAN CHANGE. I watched the highlights from the RNC and noticed right away a very different demeanour in his face. He admitted that God spared him. A person would have to have no feelings to think that wouldn’t change your life. Watching the highlights of the RNC i noticed immediately the number of times many people talked about God. There were many prayers offered up as well. I have NEVER seen this from the Democrats. Ever. ANYONE on the side of the democrats AUTOMATICALLY has to agree with their platform of which abortion is a Christians number one grievance. I haven’t talked about Kamala yet so here is some info. EVERYONE knows by now that she SLEPT her way to the top. WHY is that not talked about??? She is not a penny more moral than Donald. The Republican platform is a platform every Christian can get behind. Your govenor from what i hear just made a law that parents can not have a say in what is taught to their children. That is straight EVIL. IM sure i will get some feedback from this post. Im perfectly fine with that. Enjoy your vacation
