Kendo Guide

Are you looking for kendo instructions? Are you looking for kendo tips? The Kendo-Guide.Com (www.kendo-guide.com) KZread Channel provides you with kendo training videos for beginners, and tips for the intermediate/advanced to improve our kendo skills.

Kendo is known as Japanese fencing or Japanese samurai swordsmanship, but it is yet very unknown to many people. You will be introduced to kendo easily yet very traditionally. Already started kendo? I can help you so you can learn kendo more easily and quickly.

I have been instructing kendo to adults since 1993 when I went to New Zealand, where I lived for 6 years. For 2 years, I instructed in Guatemala. Now in the US, I have been instructing the locals since 2006. I know the problems adult kendo practitioners encounter and the solutions that they need.

I am here to help people who love kendo. For more information and to get all the kendo updates please go to www.Kendo-Guide.Com.

    Thank you for this amazing video, I’ve really wanted to get into kendo for a while. Your video confirmed my passion to start practicing. I had one question, I am very aware that my shoulders are not fully relaxed and can feel the tension build up. What would you recommend besides stretching to start to ease off of the trapezius muscles and have correct form?

    Good video sensei. Koryu iaido such as shinden ryu, jikiden ect which are practiced under the ajkf, do carry on the traditional samurai arts passed on by lineage. This is the only aspect of the samurai which continue exist. As modern kendo has become a sport. And classical kenjutsu from the times of the bakamatsu period, are hard to come by outside japan.

    Hello, i'm nidan and i have the chance to learn kendo with a traditional japanese sensei who is 7th dan. What you say in this video is something i've always heared from my sensei. I'm living in Europe and my dojo is a bit, let's say "apart" others 'cause sensei is not interested to teach us about shiai and competition but by self development by practicing kendo. When i practice with others dojo or even some "shiai experts" in ji-geiko, even if i'm way lower than my opponents i can feel my kamae and maai strong. So thanks a lot for this video and i really hope a lot of kenshi will see it and learn the best from it. cheers

    That’s interesting as I’ve been studying the mechanics of small and large men, most people aren’t saying this, they’re saying shoulders up first. Thank you I’ll study this further, as I am older, 49, I cannot rely on reflexive speed or brute muscle force and power, especially from the lower body, I need to work on whole body mechanics with the sword. I guess we all need to do this lol

  • @KendoGuide
    @KendoGuide23 күн бұрын

    It's great that you're diving deep into the mechanics! Keep up the good work. Find ways that works for you. So called Sashi-men (not small men strike) is executed like a tsuki with the minimal kensaki lift. I was told not to do it for my entire kendo life. Now people use the term for a small men strike. I am tweaking my kendo to follow my sensei's teachings. Constant tweaking and modification. it never stops! Let me know when you have questions! I am trying to live broadcasting in June (2024). So, I will answer your question especially if I need to show some movements!

    Hey!! Is the kendo bogu still expensive? I used to practice kendo with Maeda sensei in Florida and for just a while here in Indy when your dojo was on the east side. But I’ve since been practicing modern Olympic Fencing since the equipment was much easier to get into at a lower cost.

  • @sontyp8271
    @sontyp8271Ай бұрын

    The cheapest bogu I know is the Vanguard V2 from Kendostar. (Sorry Sensei it’s not my intention to make any advertising). About 500$ and I guess free shipping. How much does fencing equipment cost?

  • @starcylinder2775
    @starcylinder2775Ай бұрын

    @@sontyp8271 that’s not as bad as I thought. They were quoting me about $2k for a full bogu set back in like 2017. Our fencing gym lets you rent the equipment for free until you purchase your own. A complete electric set w/ a weapon costs around $200-$350

  • @KendoGuide
    @KendoGuide23 күн бұрын

    Great! You practiced with Maeda sensei! You were so lucky! And with us? You were really lucky! 😁There are low priced kendo equipment. if you are fortunate enough, the men and kote fit you even though you get an already made bogu set. I always suggest investing in kendo equipment that fits you. After all, it protects your body. And also if you have a bogu set, you will develop bad habits. For example, a men (mask) has an area that you should see from, called monomi. Not many people know about it so they see through the wrong areas. That leads you to have bad posture. And renting/borrowing armor is not very hygienic. Of course, if you don't mind these, then no problem. But I don't recommend.

  • @starcylinder2775

    @@KendoGuide thanks for the reply, sensei! That makes sense! What vendor do you use for your kendo equipment?? I’ll take another look! Also, where is your dojo located now???
