🌲 Welcome to our off-grid island in the Finnish wilderness. The island is completely secluded, has no electricity or plumbing and currently has nothing on it but trees. We want to turn this island into a fully functioning summer cottage with a log cabin, sauna and other amenities.
🔨 There's a lot of work to be done as the island is over 2.5 acres (1 hectare) and we have no experience in off-grid living, carpentry or building. So any tips or advice are greatly appreciated, as we are planning on doing everything ourselves and transforming the island into our own little paradise. We’ll document every step of the way, starting from smaller builds to finally - an off-grid log cabin.

I bought a piece of land in Italy 5 years ago. Exactly the same as you, no electricity, a bell tent and basically hardly anything here. If you stick at it, you’ll learn a million things you need to know through trial and error. I now have a cabin, wood mill, woodworking studio, shower room, loads of comfortable areas, vegetable garden and loads of animal pens. Each one made from the land, each one was daunting to make at the start. Just slow and steady and try and build to last first time. Wouldn’t trade this life for anything as hard as it can be. The first year is always the hardest.

One tip is to buy A Electric Motor for the boat it is gonna make transportation much easier

Love it, can't wait to see where it's going! Are you planning on planting anything on the island, like more berries, maybe some potatoes, onions and other root vegetables, or even fruit trees like apples?
I think it would be really cool to plant stuff eventually. But I haven't looked into it much, though.

Again realy interesting video. I like the Tent a lot. I would recommend to buy a semi professionel electronic chainsaw from Stihl or Husqvarna. Yeah theyre not cheap but especially for building the cabin it would be a good investment! Keep it up :)

I think you need to build some automated turrets in case want to rob the island
Its amazing what you're doing. Imagine spending your most of the summer in a place like this 😳 I with there was a way to remove bugs in a certain area i don't like bugs 😅 also are you gonna bring all the wood from store or use some from the area as well?
Hopefully, we will mostly use wood from the island and only buy wood when we have to.
