What Matters to Matt

What Matters to Matt

I spend my life focusing on how I can get to what matters and ultimately what matters to me most is my family. How do I get there? By working every single day to be the best I can be in all aspects of my life. I am continuously looking fo new way to improve both my physical health and mental health through setting goals. Running has become my main focus but overall fitness including endurance training and strength training helps me be a more well rounded athlete

    Gotta say Matt, been subscribed for a while but I had to comment as you are the only Shoe Tuber from Canada that I know, and as a fellow Canadian (Vancouver, grew up in Ottawa) its refreshing to see a Canucks take! Also I just got back from vacation (camping) a week ago and for the first time I fit in all my running before that fam woke up, but love your take on it! I know you are busy with family and life but I would love to see more frequent content from you! Also love that the last coffee is Timmy's, of course it is!

    It’s a frog, of course. It has frog legs. While on vacation, I make sure to get my runs in extra early as to not disrupt the family plans, but giving up running while on vacation would be a mistake, as you’d miss the opportunity for new scenery, climate and cultures in a different way.

    Oh man... I wish I could have seen your video before I bought the shoe. Same experience here, it feels comfortable when walking but when running, the forefoot area suddenly becomes hard and I don't feel the plushiness or response at all. I'm doing an easy run at 6.5 minutes per Km which I think the shoe is designed for but I don't feel comfortable at all. I wish I could have gone for the NB more V4 or Nike Invincible 3. Great review by the way.

    What sort of battery is installed in the control pod - is it li-ion or NiCad or what? Can the battery be replaced? Can spare control pods be purchased? I ask this because it seems such a waste of the whole thing has to be scrapped due to a failing battery.

    1 very useful feature for family/friends, is the LiveTracking option in Garmin. It's the only reason I still own a Garmin. On certain runs, my spouse wants to know where I am (if we're on vacation, a race, a long run, etc). If you turn the feature only, it allows you to put in email addresses for key people, who are then sent a link to your event LiveTracker. And it basically gives them all your metrics in realtime. Once the run is stopped, the link no longer functions. I've converted to an Apple Watch last year, and it's my preferred watch. It's not perfect, but it does provide me much better integration with the Stryd footpod. And it's only mildly annoying to have to wear 2 watches on days I'm told I have to. ;)

    between nimbus 25 and 26, which one is more suitable for daily wear?

  • @WhatMatterstoMatt
    @WhatMatterstoMatt29 күн бұрын

    Honestly I have not run in the nimbus 26 other than trying it on at the store and doing a light jog. From what I can tell with other reviews you probably can’t go wrong with either. If we are talking “daily wear” as in a shoe to both walk and run in, I will say I have used the nimbus 25 as a walking shoe for a long time after retiring it from running. My guess is that the traction in the 26 might be a bit better but some folks felt when running the change in the outsole made it a little “slappy”. In the end you can’t go wrong and I think if you can find the 25 for a good deal then it’s worth it. *remembering that my opinion is based on very little experience in the 26*

    This shoe is a furnace during summer and the midfoot is indeed too narrow for some (like me!). The outsole is also pretty bad on wet pavement. As I said after that 37k workout, you handled my peak long run workout, UNDER hydrated and UNDER fueled. If you had 80g of carbs per hour and were able to get enough hydration on course, I think you could have tagged along with me and Kevin....especially if you couldn't see your HR! ;) I ran with only 1 metric. Power....simplifies everything. I still have an extra Stryd pod rotting in my tech drawer. If you can nail the consistency this training block, you'll break 3:15 at Moncton. You are literally 1 marathon training block behind me on the EXACT same progression. If you want some challenging sunday long runs this summer, let me know. I suspect Roy, Kevin, (probably coach Mike too) and myself will be doing a few. A race/goal is sub 90mins at Fall Classic, and Chicago 3 weeks after will be hopefully a BQ minus 10-15mins.

    First off, huge congratulations Matt. You and I have always been so close on pace and ability. You have really inspired me to go for it. Last year I went out at 3:30 pace and honestly I had no business going that fast. I let the day get me to excited and broke my cardinal rule to never ever go out to fast. Needless to say by mile 18 I fell off of pace and was holding on for dear life. I did PR with a 3:38:42. Fast forward to this year. New coach that is local. Done a ton of speed work. Many paces that are close to GMP and many long runs with faster than MP miles. I am now ready. Grandma's Marathon is less than three weeks. Take two at sub 3:30.
