The lesser the unsprung mass the better for the vehicle. Depends on each vehicle what degree that mass is.

in parallel configurations also IC engine can be fixed at the front axle and the motor at the rear wheels. It has given in the Electric vehicle technology explained by James larminine and john lowry. The page number is 21.
