Hello, I'm a small-town country boy and on this channel, I do repair on small engines, tools, and other random crap, build random items, troubleshoot mechanical issues. I also Ride Motorcycles build and test off road buggies and who knows what else I will get into.

Any advice would be appreciated. I have a 97 sportsman 400L that I got as "junk" with a 330 magnum and 90s 350L. The 400 I managed to get running it needed head and cylinder work but runs. I haven't gotten a battery for it and just use the pull start. Question- do the 4X4 hubs require a battery to work? for stable voltage.
Yes, needs a battery. Don't run this without the battery it will blow all the bulbs and over charge the electronics.
I think your putting a ferring off of a liquid cooled bike onto an air cooled bike and it could end badly if you ride outside fall and winter. I hope Im wrong.
No worries this faring will direct plenty of air into the engine.
Bro you didn't have to remake the wheel, you already had 4 into 2, all you needed was to jump the 2 into 1
If look at later videos you will see why I did the exhaust this way
Having a gs850 with pod filters I can agree I'm planning on trying to find a junk box and epoxy it up and then hopefully build a fiberglass box and then epoxy a fiberglass box together with whatever is useable.
How much oil needs to be in the front reservoir?
Holds two quarts keep it topped off.
@@MrFixit1 thank you!!
спасибо.добрый человек за электро схемы!
Very nice Video but i have a question, My cb 360 twin only runs on the right cylinder but as soon as i unplug the sparkplug cover from the running cylinder and start again, the left cylinder works fine but only until i plug the right side back in. When both sparkplugs are connected only the right side runs. Any ideas?
So, refresh my memory here. Is this bike from the mid 1970's? Does it have only one set of contact points or two? Is it 12-volt ignition with only one ignition coil or two coils? Might be a coil. I would ohm check the coils primary and secondary windings. Pull both spark plugs and look to see if they are dirty. Plug both spark plugs into the spark plug wires and lay both spark plugs on the engine where you can see the gap, now crank the engine and look for spark on both plugs. The spark should alternate, left right left right. Use a spark tester and test that spark can jump a 10mm gap.
@@MrFixit1thanks for the quick reply, It is a 1974 Model and i have already replaced the two ignition coils aswell as the sparkplugs. I have also checked for the right ignition timing and replaced the regulator and rectifier for a new combo unit but nothing worked. Could it be a charging problem?
@@petst Possible it's a charging problem. Have you checked the charging voltage while the engine is running? Should be 13.5-14.5 or around about. Have you tested the stator output with engine running? If there isn't enough voltage to the coils, it's going to have erratic spark issues. Start with the basics.
so glad I found your channel, have same prob.
will try cracking open my uvr5 camo battery and see if I can get a balanced charge. on side note, would also be a good test to see if can drain the one battery that is some what charged (in your example, the lower batter in the video, of the 2, was charged well to around 4 v, but the upper was unbalanced at 3.x v. will try to update my attempt results in a couple days. here's hoping that it works.. thanks.
Thanks for making really great repair videos! I've been rebuilding a Polaris sportsman 400 and using your videos to figure it out. Great content, no nonsense, good knowledge, love it. Keep going.
THANK YOU! just what I was looking for my 1989
What model year is this bike? The action of the slave piston/rod isn't the same as my 2001 Vulcan 1500. At 12:41, the actuator plate clearly moves in and out but in my 2001, it barely moves but it's tight against the clutch spring and rotates freely when the clutch lever is pulled in. When the clutch lever is out, the actuator plate is tight against the clutch spring. This action tells me it's working but I expect to see movement as shown in this video.
Great videos on these polaris 4x4s Brother! Very helpful! I had no idea how much tech is crammed inside these bikes! Must be worth working on.
Idles but kills when I give throttle
Clean and inspect the carburetor. Check out my video on, Everything I know about cleaning and rebuilding the carburetor.
nearly there, what colour?
I think white with black
I have to do this to my bike, some noodle welded the rack on, so I am replacing the entire front end with a repaired forks and going to fix the old rack...
How much do this type of job cost
I have no Idea. I would imaging it would be more that it's worth. I would say somewhere between $500 - $1000 but may be way off.
Where can I order the park?
Ebay

Channel is underappreciated. you took the plastics off just to show hose routing, +1 like.
Thank you!
Excellent. Thank you. You are a well of knowledge on these quads.
A video on drilling/tapping/filling would be great. I plan on doing that to my 400L.
Check out the video link in the description. I think somewhere around 12:00 minuets into the video is where I drill/tap and refill the struts.
You amaze me! You know your stuff!! Always learn so much from you. Thank you!’
Thank you for watching
Hello, excuse me I have a the same polaris and I have a question about the Oil two stroke , how many oil need This polaris ? For the correct mix with the gas. I hope that you con answer me thanks
40 to 1 ratio
@@MrFixit1 40 liters of gas for 1 of oil its correct?
@@omarhernandez9373 Yes but, I like to think about it as, 40 drops of gas for ever one drop of oil. Or 40 milliliters of gas to ever 1 milliliters of oil.
I have a question about my radiator??
What's your question?
@@MrFixit1 so I added coolant I even checked the radiator and put some antifreeze in there, and after about 2 miles of riding, my radiator light comes on? What next? By the way because of you, I did that counterbalance oil changed my transmission oil. Well I was in there I threw in a new gas filter.😀
@@michellealms3238 Assuming you blead the cooling system correctly. Check that the radiator fins are not full of mud and debris. Make sure the water pump is moving coolant, and make sure the engine is not running lean or starving for oil. Check that the wire going to the temperature sensor isn't shorting out or something goofy like that.
On a previous video, you had a yellow prefilter around the outside of your air filter. Where did you get that? I can't find one big enough to go around my filter.
The yellow part was the filter and on the inside, there is a red prefilter and it all came together like that from UNI
This is so ironic. I can’t believe you posted this video. I was messing around with my counterbalance oil and of course I dropped the dipstick down. When I was looking and trying to trying to grab it a really small plastic piece of tubing came off of some thing I had no idea where. I know it was a drain tube of some sort. I just didn’t know where the heck it came from I’ll be looking at different areas tomorrow after watching this. I love that you work on this machine. You’ve taught me so much. I just ordered the oil to do my hub oil change on wheels. 🎉
Thanks for all these videos. I've been doing a bunch of work on the same machine. I just need to replace my water pump and my machine will be bullet proof for at least a couple years
Saw the eye patch new I found the right video thanks
The problem I have is it's injecting too much oil! Is there a chance the cable is hanging up or the return spring has failed?
Yes, there is a good chance of the happening.
@@MrFixit1 Thanks - will check it out.
Thank you for the excellent video.
That’s really smart pulling the carb group, to remove the cables, I fought them in place. I did prefer to remove all four intake tubes by rotation then, not popping them off- they’re fifty year old rubber. If you want to remove, pour 200 degree water over them till they’re pliable, eh?
“…I believe I could eat some of them French fries…Umm-hmmmm.”
A like and a sub for the help ❤️
Hey Mr.fixit do you by chance know of a video or have one for the type 2 transmission(high/low/reverse I think that's the 2 if I remember). I'm about to have to take my transmission apart for the 2nd time this year. I replaced my internals with a set of new to me internals off the evil bay and its been a couple months and I thought my transmission locked. I took my shift linkage off and it will shift(with some persuasion)but the dip sticks showing a metal smoothie. I think this time im going to use the least worn parts of the 2 internals I have and get all new bearings. Only videos I've found has a ton of skiping around and video quality makes it hard to see what is actually shoen lol.
I don't have a video and I don't know of a video that I could recommend. If you go on Face Book look up this group and join. facebook.com/groups/370139450327989 . Polaris 400 2-STROKE ATV's Parts and tech. They have manuals and lots of knowledgeable people.
@@MrFixit1 Thank you I got the haynes manual but its a little general. I'm hoping this time will be the last time pulling it apart for a while!
Love the content I just picked up a 2000 Suzuki Tl1000R myself and stumbled on your page researching remedy’s to my problems I have on my bike lol. Glad I did.
Ordered some on Amazon
symptoms include banging when jumps unload the front suspension. ugh. lazy search on Kirk gives $70 to $150 range, but dissuading reviews. leaks, fitment, hardware. caveat emptor from Amazip and ebag. not interested in roulette. refilling seems attractive, chance to experiment with viscosity, i'll have to judge by how bad they leak. good time to do the mod when i replace my axle seals i guess. If you had to do it again, would you put the fill plug on top, to service in place? any downside?
I chose the bottom because it seemed like the bast place to seal against. If I put a fill plug in the top, I would still need a drain in the bottom, I would believe.
Where do u get the spec charts?
From the manual I have.
!!!WARNING!!! DO NOT DO THIS WITH A GAS SHOCK!
0:33 hard to see. Lol
nice job man. Wish you could make something for my CB750 Nighthawk :D
There might be aftermarket options out there.
excellent and very informative video.
I agree with that finger for him I hope he was watching🤣
i'm glad you did, so i don't have to. all i have to think about is under throw in the linkage (not far enough) BUT, i have the hi - low. thanks for the warning. changed fluid when i first got it, murky, but no disco sparkles. looks like the chain is a wear item. Thanks to you, i'll probably step up the fluid change intervals, can i have your opinion on alternate fluids to OEM?
Lucac Chain case lube is an alternative that I have used.
What causes the characteristic polaris whine in the transmission?
Even though it's called a "silent" chain it does make some noise. So I would say it's the chain whining.
beautiful work man gives me ideas for my radian
great craftmanship but the easy solution to your accidental swith operation is to use a 3 way centre stop switch made for this type of situation. It will flip to the middle position and cut the powere but needs a second flip to get it into reverse
This is the type of switch I installed. However, if you do not wait until the motor come to a complete stop it will overload the speed controller board. So, even if you stop at the center off position and then switch into reverse while the motor is moving this will happen.
@@MrFixit1 That sounds like an on-off-on type, the one I mean had a mechanical latch, move once and it latches in the off position then you have to release and flick again for it to connect to the other position
I have changed the headgasket and cylinder and its still smoking and burning like crazy. Could it be the head?
yes, verry likely need the head resurfaced
@@MrFixit1 could it be something else? Like the crankcase? I did a full rebuild on the engine with new seals, gaskets, piston, an cylinder, but it still smokes crazy like a chimney. Could a out of balanced crank also cause it?
Can you link the part and where you bought it? I have to do the same thing! I only caught "chinese" 😅
I just looked on google, put in the saw model and ordered the cheapest kit that was offered. Can't remember now.
