I hope you all enjoyed this video Fahrenheit is one of my personal favorite coasters so I wanted to make this video a good one
I hope you guys enjoyed this video what are your opinions on flying turns at Knoebels have you ridden it or not.
I operate the Turns on the weekends(first operator ever certified in 2014). We can see at @6:11 the purple train to the left of the brake run which is the maintenance area. We have 4 trains total with a maximum capacity of 3 in use at any time. The wheels of each train are hollow and contain grease. The grease then heats up with movement and the ambient temperature. Weight is a huge factor in the viscosity of the grease and speed of the train. This footage is the green train, which at the moment is the slowest due to break-in of recent maintenance. The first helix out of the station is actually a timing mechanism for the second helix. Based on how long it takes the train to complete the first helix, the ride will automatically vary the second lift hills speed and then apply a brake at the top. The idea is that the slower the train goes, the faster the ride will allow the trains to drop off the lift hill. Since the only control afterwards is gravity, the weight of the passengers is manipulated to throw the train through the turns. Underneath the station is an environmental system. During hot days, we put on cooling fans to blow air directly at the wheels while the train is in the station. When it gets cold out, or if the ride is re-opening from rain, or even the first runs of the day, we deploy a 300,000btu propane heater underneath the station to heat the wheels. When the ride opened in 2013, it did not have the lift hill going into the final brake run, it was entirely done by increasing the slope of the last banked turn. This resulted in stuck trains having to be pulled or pushed out by staff. In 2020, the lift hill(2b) was installed to pull the train out of the trough. Most common issues are train speeds. Due to the dynamic nature of the ride, it is possible to have too slow of trains or too fast of trains. During a high speed event, the ride will either warn the panel or it will initiate a ride stop. This will stop the train on the brake run and stop all the lift hills after. This can result in trains being on a lift hill until the ride can be restarted. The ride is on a block system, preventing two trains from occupying each block. Each block has a mechanism to stop a train, whether it be a brake or a lift hill. In the event of a train being stopped for high speed, the next train would stop 2/3 of the way of the main lift hill(2). It wouldnt be possible for all 3 trains to be out on the ride at the same time. Funfact: The ride was originally designed to be 5 car trains. Since we went to a 3 car model, our lifts are overpowered (75hp 3-phase AC motors running @ 45HP). Each train weighs around 3,000lbs empty. Every part of this ride was designed in house and the trains were fabricated locally. The logic of the ride is now used in many other rides at this park (proximity sensors, VFDs on the lift hills, etc) We usually get to go on the ride multiple times per shift for various reasons (such as not being able to fill a seat or at the beginning/end of the day. Going on the ride with ~1200lbs of people per train is a huge difference. On average the second helix to the photo spot is ~18-19 seconds of ride time for an overall ride time of around 2min30sec
