Nice video. Setting up my 70 max now.
Im interested in starting up with cnc and so far my biggest concern would be using it with a Mac, I have been an Apple user since 1980 and have used PCs at work but will never own one myself, is there any chance this works with the Mac?
Meanwhile a perfectly good full sized second hand lathe thats not a toy can be found on marketplace for just over a hundred dollars.
this is one of the best channels ever for cnc. Thank you for sharing
Wow, thanks! That means a lot.
Just got this tool for 399 plus free gifts the miter stand
I think it makes no sense to still continue producing and selling these powerful and dangerous lasers as open frame machines, without an enclosure and without a smoke extraction system. It makes no sense that people need to buy or build an enclosure separately. A diode laser is dangerous for your eyes even at 1W power, now we are talking about 70W, it's something weird that the factories are continuing thinking mainly about selling bigger and bigger machines, more and more powerful machines, and they are caring so little about safety These machines should directly be produced and sold as an enclosed box, that's for the safety of the environment in terms of smoke expulsion and in terms of not getting blind if someone else may be moving near the working room without any protections and/or if you yourself forget to wear goggles. One is supposed to spend 2000 bucks, and for what? For spending additional thounsands bucks in order to build a safe setup? No, thanks, CO2 laser machines are still way better, more affordable and more versatile, and even the price difference, considering what you actually end up spending in total for having an equivalent setup for a diode laser, is not that significant.
Why would you paint over sealant? Isn't sealant supposed to go over the paint? That's what gives it's durability
The sealant seals the MDF, helping to get a better paint job.
Like many others, I use BIN. Bot almost anything 3:55 works on the surface. How about sealing the edges?
Love this..awesome idea..I’d love to learn how to do wood working
Good job
Thank you for giving us woodworkers some great ideas.
Is there a reason you've mounted your spoil boards upside down?
Brain fart.....
This isn't one of those "oh $10,000 shop" comments, but I find it funny on a CNC video you have "why isn't everyone making these" Not exactly the most common tool like a miter or table saw would be 💀
True, but I make the point that you can do it without a CNC, I only show the CNC as an option. I’d argue that this is a conventional woodworking project that can also work with CNC or laser features
great videos.. thank you for the inspiration!
"I don't know why you would be picking it up while it's running. . . " Because people are stupid and love to do stupid things. That's why. Trust me, I work at Walmart. I see stupid on a level that most folks can't even fathom. 😂
That's very cool good idea
I have one very similar to the one you have here. As an FYI you mentioned you took of the back housing because you didn't see it had a use. I have found there are 2 things I use it for. First off you were talking about how hard it is to get the wing nut carriage to align perfectly because you have to eyeball it, well on mine that carriage slides into that casing perfectly and keeps it square and true. You loosen the screws and slide it up and down the T-Track. Secondly, notice the cutout slot on the housing, you can slip a mini rotary drill saw blade down into the slot, attach its spindle shaft to it and chuck that up in the lathe and you now have a little mini table saw that you can cut your dowel stock or other wood with . Mine came with an HSS 50x1.0x6.5 blade assembly but it didn't look like yours came with that. Below is a link to a set I think would work just make sure it's not so large it hits the track (50mm or a little less is perfect) Now the truth is it takes quite a lot to get it in table saw mode but it is really cool, just be careful and safe it's not a SawStop 😮 www.amazon.com/dp/B07HRT94RH?ref=cm_sw_r_cso_sms_apin_dp_DQS0KC1M9WQK5YTX481D&ref_=cm_sw_r_cso_sms_apin_dp_DQS0KC1M9WQK5YTX481D&social_share=cm_sw_r_cso_sms_apin_dp_DQS0KC1M9WQK5YTX481D&starsLeft=1&skipTwisterOG=2
Thank you for the video. Very clear and easy to follow. I live in wine country so wine barrels are my primary material. Their interiors are very clean compared to a bourbon barrel, thank goodness. I am buying a CNC next week so your video opened a lot of possibilities. Take care.
Thank you!
Can I cut bricks with this machine?
No clue. And I'm not gonna try.....
Cool idea!
Thank you for the ideas! 😀
You are so welcome!
Cool project
The specs/description on the Lowe's website for the 779 says it will cut a 2x16 at 90 degrees, I don't see how, I get a good 12 inches and if I want something wider it seems I would have to flip it
Since it slides, it cuts a good bit, but I've not tried to cut 16 inches.
How well do plywood pieces edge glue when cut from a laser? Any issues at all from the blackened edges? Thanks!
Never really had a need to edge glue laser cut pieces.
That is the coolest spice rack I’ve ever seen.
Thank you
I will muddle along with a Ryobi 3.25. It would have been nice to see well lighted close ups of the board faces.
I do the same thing with pencils and tape measures, have them laying around all over the place. Like you I’m always losing things in secure places. Now I just have to conquer the clutter to be able to see what’s laying around!

I do this all the time. Works best with hardwood, of course. But it is doable with pine
Seeing all of your comments is a great reminder that the loud troll isn't necessarily right, they're just loud. Thank you!
Awesome work mate..
Thank you!
As a woodworker I use the laser to cut some templates and some engraving as well. I’m fine if that’s all I ever use it for.
Same here. It's a great utility tool to have.
Some great tips in this video.
Love your vids. Btw did you upgrade filming equipment. Looks more crisp
No, I just use my iphone, but I've been working on the settings a bit. I still struggle with audio though. I need to work on getting rid of the echo and gravelly audio.
Good afternoon
Thank you for this thorough side-by-side! Stepping into the planing world for the first time, I feel ready to purchase my 735x! The finishing pass option is what sold me.
Glad it was helpful!
I started off with diode lasers, still have a couple and at the time the most powerful one I could find was 22W. Fast forward 3 years and companies are releasing 50W, 60W, and even 70W diode machines. My only concerns are most are open air systems like this, meaning you or anyone near by has to wear eye protection when it is running. And my biggest concern is longevity. The diode lasers I used in the past seemed to burn out fairly quickly. Would be interested to see what a long tear review would look like. Full disclosure I now use a 60W CO2 and love it for the most part. Wish I could have gotten a larger bed size but didn't have the room for it.
The bed size was the big point for me. Just opens up for a lot of new types of projects. I’ve seen a lot of your CNC stuff, what types of things do you do on your laser?
@SothpawDesigns I guess the main thing I use my co2 for is cutting thr detail parts for the clocks you seen me make. Make quick work out if 1/8" plywood and acrylic. Other than that I use it to engrave phrases, names and logos on items
Thanks for this video,I have been looking at buying a new planer,I am a DeWalt fan and was looking at the 734 but noticed the 735,I will go with the 735 but like I said I have never owned a planer so how does the depth gauge work, this is all new to me,thanks again.
Food for thought... thanks for this. I have added a second and third machine to my shop very recently, so this gives me something to think about 12 months from now as I prepare for Christmas 2025. Here's to a successful second half of 2024! Oh and you're quite right - lasers are great add-ons to shops. That's the role mine play as well.
Love it!! Can I ask what was the angle to cut the triangle base? Thank you!
The base is simply cut at 90 degrees, with a width of approximately 4 inches. The bottom of the sides are cut at the opposite angle of the top cut, so if you cut the top at 67.5 degrees, then you'd cut the bottom angle at 22.5 degrees.
Got it, thanks! Do you have a plan for the sharp angle jig?
This looks like a solid laser. I've been looking to add one for a while and I'll definitely have to keep this one in mind.
I can already see me over-engineering this darn thing and making it harder than it needs to be. Perfect Imperfections... That's me!
How would you like to try a laser on your onefinty elite machine ? I would like to know how well a laser works on a CNC machine.
Nah. I’d rather have the separate machines and not have to switch back and forth
@SothpawDesigns Good one. I contemplated adding a laser to my Longmill CNC machine, but I ultimately got a separate laser machine (and a second and then an Xtool F1) - I can run them all at once if need be.
That's nice they sent u a big one... But if thunder or x tool p2 omtech reached out to you come on brother u take it then that's ur last one... 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤑🤑
Nah, I don't use a laser enough to keep doing reviews. I wanna get back to woodworking. But this fills a need in my shop.
Something you might do/try is cutting out templates. It is something I would like to try myself.😀
Great idea!
Good evening
Morning
Came across your channel and really liked your comparison video. It was very thorough and you answered all of my questions. As someone getting back into wood working, I like to buy tools for the long run and I've been leaning towards the 735x. The 1/2" may or may not make a difference, but the dual speed and helical cutter head upgrade (if I decide to add that at a later date) are what sold me. Excellent content. Cheers.
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you!
oak, red ooak
An added addition would be to mill out a small pocket for the cup to sit into which would make it more secure.
