    I was 12 when the 72 season went down. I still get goosebumps watching film and interviews of that team. In my mind they will always be the best team ever. They were number 1 in every category and had an unselfish mindset that will never be duplicated.

    morris was right.not ONCE, did they pad a score. alhough i wish they did in 73 vs dallas in dallas...they moved the ball steadedly against dallas....ran out the clock, in fact they tried NOT to score

    The 1972 Dolphins played the easiest schedule in NFL history. The two best teams they played that year were 8-6 (The Chiefs and the Giants) and neither qualified for the playoffs. They played ZERO playoff teams that season. Think about that for a second.

    In 1971 ,Kansas city was in playoffs and was 1970 champion , Vikings were in 71 playoffs and 1970 SB , Colts were in 1971 AFC championship , Jets Won in 1969 SB against SB 1971 champion colts , you have NO IDEA WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT , vikings MISSED 1972 PLAYOFFS , DOES THAT MAKE THEM A BAD TEAM , HERE IS THEIR RECORD , 1969, 12 - 2 , 1970 , 12 - 2 , 1971 , 11- 3 , 1972 ,7 - 7 , 1973, 12 - 2 , 1974 , 10 - 4 , 1975 , 12 - 2 ,,1976 , 11- 2 - 1 , 1977 - 9 - 5 , 1 SEASON MISSING PLAYOFFS DOES NOT MAKE A TEAM A TOMATO CAN OPPONENT .

    This team really is the best ever and in more ways than one. They are still the only team to win the Super Bowl and be Ranked No.1 in all 4 of the major team Rankings---Pts. Scored, Yds. Gained, Pts. Given Up, and Yds. Given Up. They were No.1 in all 4, so that adds up to only 4 total. The avg. S.B. winner adds up to 27 or 28.

  • @dennismumford6108
    @dennismumford6108 Жыл бұрын

    The 2011 Giants were the worst S.B. winner ever adding up to 69. Eli Manning also led the 3rd worst ever to a S.B. win--the '07 Giants nadded up to 54. Joe Flacco and the Ravens in 2012 were the 2nd worst with a total of 55.

  • @dennismumford6108
    @dennismumford6108 Жыл бұрын

    I think the '69 K.C. Chiefs were the 2nd best ever--they added up to 7. Also, sorry Tom Brady--the '01 Pats also added up to 55, so they tie the '12 Ravens for 2nd worst. One other note--Jim Kelly had 2 Bills teams in the S.B. in '91 and '93 that were OFFICIALLY Ranked 27th (next-to-last) on Defense and Kurt Warner had a Defense that gave up 426 pts. but were in the '08 S.B.

    It’s 2023 May 7, I am early 40’s. I enjoyed watching Mercury Morris gloat about there 72’ season!! I really admire the sentiment Larry Csonka spoke about his teammates and Coach Don Shula and felt his passion and loneliness he spoke of. What a great Episode!!!!! RIP those who are not with us 72’ Dolphins and God speed with those still here, Congrats from some random guy!! :-)

    Great job Breanna. I was born in Newark, NJ in 1952. My parents moved to Miami when I was 3 yrs old. I became a DOLPHAN their first year (1968, and I was 13 yrs old) and they were absolutely awful, but it didn't matter to me because the city finally had an NFL team. When Shula signed to coach the team I knew this team would raise some hell in the league, and boy did they ever. Again, you did a fine job putting this together. It brought back memories, and although I no longer live in Florida the Miami Dolphins remain my HOME team, and I root for them every game.

    What a historic deep roster this team had and truly yes with Earl Morrall a back up QB led the Dolphins to 9 or 10 of those 17 wins no team could ever do it with a back up QB which makes this feat all the more impressive.I am proud to be a Dolphins fan went to my first Dolphins home game on October 23,2022 against the Steelers was worth flying from Hilo,HI and I really enjoyed the museum that honored the greatest TEAM in NFL history they were perfect in every aspect such an unselfish group of men that sacrificed self for Team that’s why this feat may never happen again because of the astronomical salaries these players make today and most teams don’t want to risk injuries once they clinch a playoff berth and will sit their starters.Only Bill Belichick truly knows the importance of this feat is why he pushed so hard to get it and fell just short of what only the great Don Shula has accomplished.

    The 1973 Miami Dolphins were better even though they lost two games. I'd love to see the 1973 Miami Dolphins vs the 1978 Pittsburgh Steelers. I'd pay anything to see that match up. In my opinion, had the Miami Dolphins defeated the Oakland Raiders in the 1974 AFC Divisional Playoff Game the Miami Dolphins would've defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers in the AFC Championship Game only if the Miami Dolphins had home field advantage which I think they would've. I distinctly remember Paul Warfield saying that they would've beaten the Pittsburgh Steelers because they were undefeated at home. Somebody please let me know who would've had home field advantage. I'm mentioning this because there was one play that stands out in my mind about that AFC Divisional Game between the Miami Dolphins & the Oakland Raiders was the "trapped catch" from Cliff Branch in the fourth quarter. Had the referees not blown that call the Miami Dolphins would've probably won that game. However, the Oakland Raiders played a magnificent game & Kenny "The Snake" Stabler was outstanding on that last drive. Joe Montana would've been impressed it was that good.

    Miami was 11 - 3 , Pittsburgh , 10 - 3 - 1 , so we get Advantage over their one Tie , but Rotational was still in place in 1974 so we might have been at Pittsburgh AND without Jake Scott who was CRITICAL in our Secondary , cannot remember who else was doubtful had Dolphins played the next week . Anyhow AT Pittsburgh would have been tough , the 72 title game was close deep into the 4th .In the 3 Dolphin victories all the games were close ,1971- 24 - 21 at Miami , 1972- 21 - 17, at Pittsburgh,1973 - 30 - 26 at Miami . .Dolphins became the first early victims of their OWN SUCCESS , after back to back Super Bowl Wins , They LOSE , DEFENSIVE Head coach Bill Arnsparger left after 1973 season and Csonka Kiick and Warfield after 1974, its no wonder they fell off their Pedestal . YES he TRAPPED the Ball , but back then you could get away with it in a blink of Referees Eye .Television Replays have shown many of wrong calls that stood before instant replays were enacted. Here is a fun Fact , Pittsburgh , 1970 - 1979 - 113- 44 - 1 ,Total wins Miami - 111 - 48 - 1 .

    @@fritterfoof5146 If Miami had played in Pittsburgh without Jake Scott, Pittsburgh wins. If Miami played in Miami without Jake Scott, Miami by a Field Goal. With Jake Scott, Miami wins in Miami & a tossup in Pittsburgh (edge Pittsburgh). I do remember Paul Warfield in an interview saying that had Miami beat the Oakland Raiders they would've played Pittsburgh in Miami.

    Shula said that when he wanted to bring Eral Morrall onto the team with a $75K contract that team owner Joe Roby told him hell no I'm not paying a backup QB that much but Shula convinced him they needed him and Roby relented. Without him there probably would have never been a perfect season. But make no mistake, the Steelers had the Dolphin's offense shut down in the AFC Championship game until Shula put Griese in to start the 2nd half.
