Ward was never outpointing Calzaghe, so he would've had to stop him. Highly unlikely! Also, Ward took a loss! He 100% lost the first fight against Kovalev. Roy Jones Jnr (Ward's friend) was at ringside absolutely incensed by the decision! Sergey completely outclassed Ward in the first half.. Ward looked lost.. and probably only stayed motivated because Hunter was pulling the old "bully" psychology! The second fight was a bit of a mess.. and controversial in itself. Regardless, Andre was a great champion, fought absolutely everybody and cleaned out the super middleweight division, without question!

Joe found himself on the canvas a number of times in his career because he was careless at times, not because he had a dodgy chin. His chin was tested many times over his career and it well and truly passed the test. In each of the occasions when he was knocked down, he bounced straight back to his feet clear headed and went on the attack. So yes, Ward.. may.. have knocked him down, but it still wouldn't have been enough, in my opinion 🥊

Look I think Calzaghe may be underrated by the larger boxing audience but he way way overrated by his fans. He shared the same asterisk that many undefeated boxers from Ottke to Lopez and even Marciano share. They fought in very weak divisions and the bigger names they faced were far removed from there prime.

Ward looked LOST in the first half of the fight.. so let's not deify Andre! If Ward didn't knock him out, he'd lose. Reading between the lines of interviews, Ward himself knows this to be the case, always acknowledging Calzaghe's work rate and punch output. As I see it, Ward would have to throw and grab and try to work on the inside. Closely matched on the inside, Calzaghe's punch output and offensive would be the difference on the scorecards. That's my opinion ☺️

Egis Klimas said it best, he said tyson must have been born under a lucky star or something because his path to the top has been very easy. I must agree since he could potentially have 3 losses on his resume already and luckily he has always had the rub of the green in match decisions. Its arguable that he is one of the greats of this era because he is still unproven in many peoples eyes other than his deluded fan boys.
