As a Sooner fan, this era of OU football was absolutely amazing. Dominating defense, which the 1985 team is still considered one of the greatest ever defensively, and a relentless wishbone attack with a deep threat from Keith Jackson, one of the greatest tight ends ever(1 in 4 catches were for touchdowns). From 1985-1987, Oklahoma lost to only one team....Miami. And it happened 3 times in 3 years. The only reason Oklahoma got the National Championship was Tennessee randomly beating the Hurricanes this same night. Such a fun time to be a fan of Oklahoma.

I thought the announcers were going to cry on the air. As usual, the announcing is lopsided for the yanks. Notice Pen State was ranked #1, but got beat. It took the east forever to come to grips with not winning all the time.

I love the wishbone offense, but it needs a viable passing attack to make it go. The quarterback needs to give 100 plus passing yards a game. Alabama ran the wishbone the best under Bear Bryant. They were able incorporate a respectable passing game within it. Oklahoma had much better athletes, but were never able to do this.

  • @BruceWayne-ri4wr

I’m a Nebraska fan, but Oklahoma had the best athletes in the country and all of college football for decades believe me they did just fine running their wishbone. I hated these bastards but they ran that wishbone pretty much perfection believe me they didn’t need to really do much different because they could’ve won about seven national championships by Barry Switzer was their coach. They did win three and could’ve won three or four other ones And I watched it firsthand because I’m a husker fan and we should’ve won six or seven national titles and we didn’t win because we’ve lost close games to them sooner. Magic They called it.

As an Auburn fan, this one hurts a lot. We had two miracle plays in back-to-back games, we went from 3-9 (0-8) to 12-1 (7-1), did all that just to lose with less than 30 seconds left. Honestly, this hurts more than the last play in Super Bowl XLIX. Man, even ten years later, it still hurts 😥.

Nebraska should have won this game there were bad penalties and that punt return got called back for some odd reason pretty much the referees wanted Florida State to win this game, and Nebraska should have 8 or more national titles today they should have 1982 1983 1993 and they possibly could have won 5 in a row, Nebraska has gotten screwed over a lot in the past.

His passing efficiency wasn’t very good though if you look at the beginning graphic, he completed less than 60% of his passes with almost double digit interceptions. Those numbers wouldn’t fly today in the modern day the Oregon quarterback completed nearly 80% of his passes this season.
