I was under the impression the the NFLPA was discussing the possibility of doing away with OTAs and mandatory mini-camps and push everything back to early July to start summer camp for each team. It might have been the NFLs attempt to get that 18th regular season game agreed to. It would give players longer to decompress after the season and then have everyone together from July1st and gradually ramp it up to start the season the first week in September with only one pre-season game. Don't give the suits the 18th game NFLPA. You'll end up getting screwed.

The players should negotiate for a higher level of vets that get the more time out of the building. It could be stages as well like starting 5th year players. That would mean they are all on their second contract by then. The you could add bones time like same team so a 5th year player on the same team gets even more weeks off then add extra weeks if it's under same coach as these players by that point should have the whole playbook down plus it might make it more enticing to stay with the same club as these perks start adding up and they could make more up to the individual players discretion as they become a 6/8 year vets rather then it up to the coach, front office or the league. Plus they need to get back to 4 preseason games. That last game really doesn't have very many starters participating anyway. I'm tiered of the first to weeks looking more the three stooges' are on the field when these are games that actually count whether your team makes the playoffs are not.

Question for future mailbags: We've often had minicamps and OTAs that produced excitement only for it to not translate to the season. Last season being Exhibit A. As a fan who's not at the practices, what are the things you think we should look out for as signals that usually translate to the season? Positively or negatively. And this is both from a football perspective and from an us-listening-to-beat-reporters perspective. Because the beat reporters often seem to get caught up in the energy of the team, or certain negative stories don't translate because the beat reporter doesn't want to burn access or a source. But are there things that when we hear them as fans we can/should feel optimistic/pessimistic? Or is it just everything is too weak a signal to pay attention to?

USA has never had the talent to compete with the top teams in the world. Yet somehow, previous generation of players were somehow able to punch above their weight. Klinsmann was able to do better with lesser players. Bruce Arena almost got them to a semifinal of a world cup in 2002. They beat a 2009 Spain. And made it to a final with Brasil

Not getting out of an easy group. Creating a players council. Players deciding who they want to lead. fans were correct for over 5 years. What else do you need? The answers are there.

I think USSF is going to fire Berhalter. But they have to follow all of the proper procedures. Just like when a company fires any employee. They have to follow a process. They have to pretend to write up an unbiased evaluation of the employee. They have to gather evidence of failure. They have to interview witnesses and coworkers. They have to create a case for firing him. That way they protect themselves from a lawsuit, in case Berhalter decides to sue for wrongful termination, or tries to blackmail them.

Alright Mr. Hoffman, letting go of Deni was a future move? this team is consistantly mismanaged. The piraya of the NBA. I like the Draft picks but everyone knows its a crap shoot, maybe 1 will be productive. I fear this team will fade further into obsucurity. The NBA wants to expand the brand and we have not been good for business. I love the wizards, bullets, but we have been barking up this tree with no fruits in sight. i wish i could share your optimism, but i can only judge from past peformance and based on that the outcome is bleak. We cant even get KD a DC native to look in our direction. Most players are proud to go home and play. It does make a difference when someone is taking minutes from people who are still developing. For example, Jordan Poole averaged 17.4 pts and 4 assists for the season but in the 14 games he played without Tyus he averaged 21pts, 7 assists and 3 rebounds. In his last 10 games of the season he averaged 23ppg and 8 assists! If the goal for the Wizards is to eventually trade Poole down the line then that means Tyus shouldn't come back either so Poole can get his value up to be moved.

Deni is definitely a third star on a winner, he's hampered only with selfish players or when he is on a bad defense because he is unselfish on both ends and helps on D and shares the ball on O to a fault. That was the situation on the Wiz, and that'll be the case in Portland, but with proper teammates he's amazing. He doesn't even need the first two options to be superstars, just good high IQ players. You obviously didn't watch Deni, just his stats. They traded a player to build around for a bunch of gambles.
