G'day there! Welcome to my channel!
I am Dyani and together with my rescue pup Pepper, I'm sharing my journey to convert an old school bus into our very own tiny home on wheels so we can live full time on the road and travel around this beautiful country we call home.
I had no previous building experience or mechanical knowledge before I started this journey, but I have managed to do so much and learned so many new skills along the way.
I want to inspire others, particularly solo women, to have the courage to step out of their comfort zone and turn their dreams into reality! You too can do this!
Pepper and I can't wait to finish our home on wheels so we can hit the road and share all our adventures with you.
We would love for you to be a part of our journey.

Beautiful paint job
You are now, officially, a painter! Looks great.
Almost there!!!!
The clue about painting is the first four letters spell 'pain' 🙂. Cool to see you finishing what I'm just starting! LOL.
Hi.. Nice video❤❤❤
Looks nice. I'm pleased to see the screw holes filled in very well and I didn't see them after painting. That's a happy thing.
I absolutely love the fact you are doing this for just you and your dog! You've given me some great inspo for the years ahead building my bus for my and my pup 🐶 Too many 'couple' bus conversion videos out there make me cringe, I love how you have the dog area at the passenger side, I was just thinking of that and your idea looks great! Love your work :)
Thanks! I often wish I had another person with me to hold the camera as it would make filming so much easier LOL! But I'm happy that it is just me and my dog :) I wish there were more Aussie solo bus lifers on KZread. I wish you all the best for your bus build. It is certainly a wonderful adventure.
Hey, excellent job! Well done and thank you for posting this video!
Did you see the video where a Pommie fella puts a adapter on the end of the diesel heater that you can heat your water with just saying cheers
no I haven't seen that video. sounds interesting
Does this hot water heater require a open vented mixer tap?
When watching your videos, I accidentally hit ‘like’ and never knew when 😀 Just subscribed!
Really great job installing, such a great brand you have chosen well, now you need some cooler weather 😂😂 thanks so much for sharing 👍
I hooked my heater up directly after the main fuel filter which is near the battery box on the passenger side, the kit came with a T piece which I used to just tap into the original line, has worked fine for years.
Check your instructions, there should be a priming function on the control unit, this allows the pump to draw the fuel through prior to the heater starting 👍
Great work. Quick question. Fuel line looks close to exhaust pipe. May be just the camera angle. How far away is it? Thanks for another informative and interesting video
The fuel line enters the heater quite close to where the exhaust comes out so for the initial couple of inches it is close, but that's the way the heater is designed so there isn't really anything you can do about that and I doubt they would make it that way if it caused problems. The fuel pump is mounted well away from where the exhaust runs so the rest of the fuel line runs away from the exhaust pipe. I'd have to get back under the bus to measure it but I don't think it's close enough to be a problem. I'll double check that with my mechanic when I see him later in the month.
@@AGirlADogandABus thanks, knew you would have done it safely😎
@ljdavis6079 I'm more concerned with how close the holes for the aircon are to where the exhaust comes out. I didn't notice any fumes inside the bus when I did my test bit I only ran the heater for a short time. I may end up having to close them off somehow in Winter or re-route the exhaust somewhere else. Time will tell.
Epic job and gret vid and edit. You're a natural teacher
Hi love what you’re doing 😁. Can you recommend an engineer for certification work ( I’m in Qld )
If you're in the Brisbane area I highly recommend Craig Haswell and his colleague Rodney from Performance Auto Inspections. Craig did all my motorhome conversion certification, seat change mod plate and they also do my annual COI. I also recommend Andrew Bellars from ASB Engineering in Brisbane. He did my GVM upgrade certification. Both guys are mobile so depending on where you are they can come to you.
Thanks 😊. We have a few more questions too . Are you on messenger or .
@leeandsue1 yes you can message me via my facebook page A Girl A Dog and A Bus
Incredible work and one more question What do you called exactly Because worker in Bunnings confuse about the name, could you please let me know much appreciated
It's called Ametalin Thermalbreak. www.bunnings.com.au/ametalin-1350mm-x-22-25m-thermalbreak-roof-and-wall-home-insulation_p0811234
Love the video! Looking at doing the same. Do you know what the process is with registering it so you can drive it with a C class license? Do you have to remove all the extra seats to bring the weight down then they assess the weight and approve it as being under 4.5 ton?
I don't know the exact process of getting a coaster downgraded sorry because I've never done it. You would need to speak with an approved modification inspector in your state to find out. I actually increased my GVM to be able to carry more.
Nice videos thanks. What year model coaster did you get? Looking to do the same soon
mine is a 2005
Very comprehensive installation.
So awesome to be able to fit a piano in your bus. I’ve seen another bus builder (in the USA) do the same thing. Great use of space for storage, I know you will need every bit of it too. Great job! 👏👏👏
Almost there! Pity about the piano, you didn't give us a little tune, lol. Well done you, it's going to be one great little space once you've moved in and made it home.
Yeah sorry about that. I don't really like playing the piano in front of other people
Awesome that you've made the piano fit! Well done!
You have been busy , love the doors but the absolutely amazing addition is the piano , well done 🎉that’s fantastic, you must be very proud of yourself cheers Darrel
Top job!! The way you've fitted the piano in is amazing!!
Looking great 👏
Love your videos. Where did you get the brackets from? You mentioned welding the rack instead of bolting together. Did you discard this idea because of the expense? We are about to start our own coaster conversion so thanks for your advice
I got my brackets from roof rack world online. I didn't weld mine because I don't have the skills to do that.
Thank you for your detailed explanations. I have learnt so much from watching your build. It has supported me in doing things with more confidence. 🙏
This tutorial is brilliant 👏 good job with your air-con instal 💪 perfect
Hi Dyani, I’ve loved watching your progress! I’ve also been doing my own coaster build, you’ve been very inspiring 😊, I’ve gone more basic, kinda no build bus build, I have enjoyed the learning process very much. I’m wondering how did you go about finding someone to do the GVM upgrade? I’m on the Sunshine Coast ( ummm rainy coast atm haha) I think we may have the same awesome mechanic 👍😁
I got on the transport dept website and looked up all the approved modification inspectors in my area and emailed them about getting a GVM upgrade.
ahh ok I was wondering what these where - I have seen Buses stripped but these still on the floor.
well done on your build, I feel i would not be as confident, Great idea with your little stove
i started doing mine today, i cut it with an angle grinder, which is ohhhh so unforgiving on any slip. I also borrowed a friends 6ft ladder, which only comes up to the bottom of the windows! And your right, sooooo scary cutting that hole!
Toyota girl Coaster
I like the way you go about working out problems. Did you put airbags front and rear or just the rear. I have a coaster and thinking of putting airbags on the rear. Keep up the great work.
I only put them on the rear. My coaster has torsion bar suspension on the front so you can't put airbag assist on that.
@AGirlADogandABus thanks for that information, maybe see you on the road one day. Cheers
Wow!!! So inspiring and exciting to watch !! Thanks for sharing and what a fantastic job you've done creating this special home on wheels.
That was a fantastic video Well done 👍👍
Great install! And you finished off the ducting nicely. That unit is much easier to install than the split units that are popular in the U.S. Looked like the template made hole alignment a lot simpler too. Quite inspiring, thanks for sharing.
How's Pepper going? I'm still trying to work out how to fill the big hole that Lucy left
Pepper is going ok. I'm still battling with her anxiety and other issues. I worry about how we will manage living full time in the bus if I can't leave her in doggy daycare sometimes when I work. Working hard this year to get her more socialised and better trained so that is an option for us. Hugs to you regarding Lucy. It's really hard to lose a furry companion.
Another good job, well done! I was surprised that the current draw and the solar gain were more or less equal which means that after the initial outlay of the unit the running costs will probably be zero.
I'm not convinced the aircon was running at full power when I tested it. The specs say the effective power consumption is 4.2A which at 240V would put it around 1000W. Mine was only running up to 800 or so. But like I said in the video, it wasn't a particularly hot day. The real test will come next Summer if I'm still stuck in Queensland. Even so, I should be able to match most of it with solar if it's a clear day, and I have 6.9kW of battery storage so should be able to run it for a few hours off grid regardless of the weather, so I'm pretty happy with that.
That is very good to know and it uses a bit less power as a heater too. The only advice I'd give is that the external vents are dircetly behind the wheel and even though you don't use the AC while driving, mud and rocks and tar will be flung into the fan and other holes. I would be looking to fit some kind of rear facing duct to block the debris. It's all very exciting now, when do you plan to head out?
yes I was thinking about what I could do to better protect the vents. I need to look at options
Go Girl, well done, I enjoyed your toil. 👻
Felt like a science class but a very interesting one. Thanks for explaining the reasoning behind every decision. I'm learning. Would you be able to put a roof deck on one end of this rack. It's something I'd ideally want for my immediate use.
Glad it was helpful! Yes I could put a small deck on the space I have left at the back. Haven't decided yet if I will do that or if I will put a storage box up there.
