Naneek Film

Naneek Film

In 2015, I made an award-winning short documentary called Naneek. For two weeks, we followed my good friend and Vietnam combat veteran back to the hill he fought on. Sat down with former enemy (the NVA). And, ultimately, captured the emotional story of a veteran trying to heal the wounds from his time at war. My role was Director, but I also captured sound and led our interviews. This page is to showcase my film. And, it means the world to Naneek that you watched our film. Peace, friends.

I have a neighbor, his name is Joe MCNATT, a Vietnam war veteran, who was stationed in Danang. We went to Danang 2 weeks ago, and Joe was very emotional when we got there. He is 84 years old. I had the privilege to be there with him, at least for the last time for him.

Great job! Great message! I was not involved in the war, to young, but you spoke the message I would want to carry, the NVA veterans really impressed me with their honor and dignity. I am just now researching a lot of Vietnam 67 battles. Based on many interviews of vets(875 ect) I'm realizing just how incredibly TOUGH and well trained these NVA regulars were. Wow! Do you agree?

@@timkeenan1385hi Mr Keenan. I don't know if you'll see this but I hope you've found peace & healing from your visit in VN. My mom is Vietnamese (south) and my dad Filipino. They left VN for PH 🇵🇭 in April 1975, just before Saigon fell. My mom wasn't able to see or attend both her parents' funerals in the 80s because travel was very pricey those days (and we were hard up). My dad never did get to return to VN - he has passed away. My mom has returned a few times. I have visited some times too - mainly in Saigon where my relatives are. One of my uncles fought for the south & he was sent to re-education camp for 2 yrs. The war affected my family in many ways. I wish you & your family joy & good health.

I am a veteran myself, and must commend these men for returning, because I can't say if someone offered me a trip back to Afghanistan, I would take it. These guys were amazing, and their story will be live on the @wreathsacrossamerica channel on Vietnam Veterans Day, this year. Great work on this documentary. I would love to have you watch ours and give us your feedback. Nick

When the French defeated and left Vietnam in 1954. The country divided into two partition states: North Vietnam is the communist and the South is Republic under Democracy government. So, let both side of Vietnam run their countries the way they want. The American participated in to assist by providing aids to South Vietnam to fight back the International Communist (that is Soviet Union and China). So, the US helped South Vietnam so long until 1973 and declared to withdraw cutting significant aids to South Vietnam. The let South Vietnam fight alone against North Vietnam (North Vietnam with the helps from Soviet and China)...and so those nations (US, Australia, Korea, Philippines, Thailand and the whole West) under Democracy running away. Sounds great, huh? Ultimately, the citizens of the Republic of South Vietnam collapsed and its people stranded and faced the consequences of all cost: jails, rapes, rootings, refugees, death, poor, loss....You name it. Why the West entered the war rather let South Vietnam taking care of their country from the beginning, so they didn't depend on the West? You promised and ran away from this war.

Americans show the good and the bad of what they do. I watched the Vietnam War many times live on TV, as it was the only televised war and families in the United States could see their children fighting in the jungle of Vietnam. That's why I admire the Americans-just or unjust war they show. The same does not happen with Russia, which has entered into so many wars and has never shown, nor does it today, show its people the wars its military entered, or if it does, it only shows the positive side, knowing that what communists enter is never to liberate a people. . . There's American democracy. Vietnamese people love Americans regardless of whether there was a war in between, the same cannot be said about Russians being adored. That's why good always wins over evil.

America took many hills and won battles but lost many men doing so. Take a hill only to leave the hill and move on. Hamburger Hill is well known but not acknowledged as a significant battle because they left after a short time.... all the hills were taken back by the enemy. So many men died fighting for those hills.
