Welcome to Kevin Hatley Photography a channel I have set up to share my experiences in photographing wildlife and nature. The aim of the channel is to outline how best I experience the adventures of the outdoors to photograph especially birds, butterflies, dragonflies, mammals and the environment they live in. In sharing these adventures and experiences I hope to not only improve my photography but help others to do so also.
About: I am a self taught amateur wildlife photographer originally from Scotland but now lives in Worksop, England.

Really good tips there & your photographs are stunning. Thank you
Fantastic images and video content. Your images are beautiful, approach creative and interesting. But title should be more catchy and specific to get views you deserve! Use your title graphic "5 Steps to Success for birds in flight photography", "5F's - 5 steps to Fantastic bird photos" "Applying 5 military tactics to capturing great birds in flight photos". Should help to get more views. Personally I would re-edit and upload a shorter, more focused with same great images. Even show tracking/framing etc.. in viewfinder. Also play around with cover image and watch videos rate change for a week. You'll see what people are attracted to. I'm a digital marketing consultant, and think you deserve more success.
Many thanks for your comments & I will take note for future videos.
Very very useful guide, must be followed by beginners as well as semi professionals.minutely described.👍👍
Awesome so lovely capture
Kevin great video kind Sir, love this form of photography and like you say can be challenging to capture a good image. Always looking forward for your next upload and I’m sure that you will keep getting many more Subscribers 👍 always appreciate your time warm regards from Stu..
Had a big flock of Waxwings in the Peak District this year.
I remember being a lot on social media about them.
Great tips Kev
Thanks for your comments.
Thanks mucker, the piece about pre-dive movements is invaluable….I’m away to a commercial hide next week and having never shot Kingfishers so I want to be sure I’m fully genned up on behaviour. The tech stuff isn’t an issue for me it’s useful for the for first timers. Excellent video and good to see a fellow veteran enjoying the peaceful life 😉
Trooper thanks for your comments & good luck with the kingfishers. Sapper "out"
Kevin: As always, an excellent and informative video. What I particularly appreciate about your videos is that any photographer using any manufacturer's gear can learn from the video (e.g. I shoot OM Systems, not Cannon as you do, but nonetheless learn from your videos). Thank you. PJI
PJI thanks for your comments & good luck.
Nice video.. but I’m from Northern California and don’t know a lot of your bird species, I had to pause a video and take a photograph to identify the bird with my iPhone and Merlin Bird ID. I know you mentioned some of the species, but could you put subtitles on different birds? (And do you have a Scottish accent or is that northern England?)
Thanks for your comments. I will take on board your comment about the bird names & yes I am Scottish but live in England.
Awesome so lovely capture
Kevin. Superb !! I have all of them by my lake.I use 300 with 1.4x and I have some great photos of wobblers. Great film. All the best.
Excellent video thanks Kevin, would you be able to recommend a decent gimbal that doesn’t cost an arm and leg , cheers
Neil, very much budget dependent but the following are good options. www.amazon.co.uk/Neewer-Professional-Structure-Supports-Panoramic/dp/B098QVSGN9/ref=asc_df_B098QVSGN9?tag=bingshoppinga-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=80058310464261&hvnetw=o&hvqmt=e&hvbmt=be&hvdev=c&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=&hvtargid=pla-4583657839344993&psc=1

I’m trying to get a shot of a local Nightingale, beautiful to listen to but near on impossible to see, they seem to be invisible!
Great tips! And what beautiful photographs you got l, so sharp
So ,so more interesting than another camera gear review, this is what wildlife photography is all about, thank you

Excellent video. I can use the same info with the badgers here in California. Thanks!😊
Thanks for the kind words you said about us. Great video - good to see people taking an interest in badgers and knowing how to take care around their setts.
Any time!
Perfect timing. I've been looking locally for Badgers and have found some on my trail cameras, but judging by the freqency, there's no den nearby. I believe they can have quite a large wondering range so they're probably just passing through
Frank a badgers territory is approx 500 to 700 m squared. Look for high ground on slopes along woodland edges for more signs. Good luck.
Fantastic information looking forward to seeing the next episode
Excellent video Kev
Kevin you presented another great example of how to tackle a hard subject to photograph. Very enjoyable video and much appreciated.
Thank you.
Awesome video and so lovely footages
Thank you.
Hello from USA, I enjoy listening to birds, Thank you for your channel, Much love, May God bless all your endeavors.
I always like watching the way you describe the wildlife and their habits. The pictures as crystal clear and your descriptions are always on point. Thank you for helping me to identify your wildlife. Best to you from the Mojave Desert in California. 😊
when croping with r5 how many megapixels remains for a good quality photo ?
Try to get the picture right in the camera first & that means you lose less pixels. The bigger the crop the more pixels you will lose & noise if present will show too.
Thanks Simon very informative looking forward to the Badger videos
Awesome video and a new subscriber
Das haben Sie gut erklärt !
Vielen danke!
An excellent guide to observing tracks and signs in our wildlife...
Excellent thanks for the tips
Really enjoyed this episode, I have ordered the book, it’s coming tomorrow. The farmers fields behind our garden have deer, fox, badger, stoat etc. plenty of amphibians too as the water drains off the mountains in the distance. Should be interesting to take the kids and see what we can find. Thanks for sharing this, lots of work going into these high quality films 👏👏👏
Great useful information and lovely shots - you mention the bird judging the water depth , on my recce’s I notice the bird when perched is frequently bobbing its head up and down -any thoughts on this behaviour as it doesn’t seem to proceed any particular activity
what an informative Vid loved it
That was very informative and very enjoyable.
We have both a Blackbird and a Song Thrush singing in our garden at present. I’m hoping both will nest this year, last year only the Blackbird laid eggs.
Hi Kevin in one of your videos you mentioned a book you had on animal tracks and tracking what's the title please 🙏
images.app.goo.gl/rKeo9hh2zfYoEqdM8 Shop around you can get it cheaper. This is a reference book I'd also get a small pocket book for in the field. I'm working on a Tracks & Signs video hopefully out beginning of March.
@kevinhatleyphotography Thanks Kevin appreciated
I’m looking forward to the drumming starting soon. We have a GSW feeding in our garden at present, and we get Green Woodpeckers too. Last year we rescued a GSW after it flew into our conservatory. It was a bit dazed, and fortunately we got to it before our cat, or the dogs did. I released it in a bit and it flew away, no harm done. The next month is my absolute favourite time of the year……………
Tetap semangat semoga sukses dari Indonesia
Another fantastic presentation Kevin like the new look of your channel, best regards from Stu Perth Western Australia
Thank you for the information on the Kinfisher. Will put to practice.
very good, it has given me the motivation to dust mine off and put it out then out again.
I’m so pleased I found your channel, keep up the good work Kevin.
Great video...
Amazing images! I've just gotten into birds and discovered that there are kingfishers in my area. I haven't even seen one yet, but my wife did on our last trip out. She even got a good pic with her Canon powershot. I couldn't even see it. So, baby steps. Your tips here are super helpful! Thanks!
Brilliant captures and a nice video, what size lens were you using please
Canon RF 100-500 & Canon R5.
