  Small thing about the initial lack of VA: the game was rebooted and the company almost broke - no joke. they simply couldnt afford more VA :( With the games success however, voiced cutscenes get more frequent but thats still a while to go.

  @@KurbStomped I know the feeling. even wow and especially gw2 excell at va's. on the other hand, none of them have as many cutscenes as ff14, so thats not really fair :D cant talk about eso: when i quit wow, it was either eso or ff14 - and 14 won because it had the free trial :D

  I played ESO for 9 half years and just started playing FF14, I have to say I am loving it so far. Saying that there's is things in the game that they do better than ESO and things that I wish they had that ESO do have. But overall, the game is great.

  See I always like when someone finds enjoyment in a game I hate... Really I see FFXIV as this: A single player game with some social elements. The MMO part of FFXIV really doesn't need to exist... it adds nothing to the game... It behaves more like GW1 though it pretends it doesn't. You only REALLY engage with other players in Dungeons and Hub cities... out in the open world you can see them and sometimes join radial events where other players join in... but when you're out there you're typically following your own personal story... walking to a place you've never been and once you've gotten there you'll never walk there again cause you'll just TP back and forth from now on. FFXIV doesn't take advantage of being an MMO... and it's not just them... a LOT of MMOs fail to do this... They hint at it with the radial events where it's reccommended to have multiple people but (in my experience) you don't need them there. The only time you NEED other players is in dungeons. Compare that to something like GW2 where there are Meta events which are actually impossible to complete solo. Octovine requires ATLEAST 4 groups of about 10 players to attack the various sections of the city and clear out the octovines. Jokos Palace meta event requires a small army to invade and win the fight. World bosses you need about 10 to 15 players minimum. GW2 takes advantage of being an MMORPG. Sure you have the Hub cities and Dungeons... but there are open world events which in some cases are required to progress certain elements of the game (Like map completion... some vistas are locked behind areas that require a meta event to be complete). This doesn't just encourage you to interact with the other players... but requires it. I think this is something a LOT of MMOs are losing. WoW and it's recent Expacs do it, FFXIV does it... and that's fine... except... GW2 doesn't charge you monthly for what is basically a social chat room between MSQs.

  I did try GW2 and I didn't exactly enjoy it. I do usually play MMOs solo more or less, like ESO I only ever solo quest, and even when I played wow I max leveled solo with some random dungeons etc. I shall see how FF compares to the others for sure.

  @@KurbStomped And that's where then niche that FFXIV and other similar MMOs fill works. Since it focuses a solo experience then it works for those who like/want that kind of game. I don't like that... if i'm going to play an MMO even if i'm solo during the experience I like to feel like the MMO part is warranted... but that's personal taste :P.

  If you enjoy stories with twists and turns and amazing character development that although starts slow goes really deep then yes, definitely you should keep playing FF14! Once you have got the hundreds of hours of enjoyment from the MSQ (Main Story Quest) you will have countless raids of various dificulties, each with their own unique story that also provides more context for the main story as well as some of the most challenging encounters in any mmos in my personal experience. Not to mention the glamours, player housing, shared world content, treasure hunts, and on and on and on.

  Nice to see you giving FFXIV a shot! As a long time player (been playing on and off for close to a decade), I always enjoy seeing people trying out the game for the first time. Hope you stick with it! Just as a bit of advice: Don't play this like WoW. Don't pick up every side quest you see. Just stick to the MSQ and Clas/Job quests. You can always do the side quests later if you REALLY want to (usually only the + symbol quests are worth it anyway). Doing just the MSQ will always net you enough EXP to proceed through the story.

  @@KurbStomped If you do that, you'll never make much progress. There are hundreds of side quests and most of them people never do. The MSQ, Job/class quests, and unlock quests are the ones best focused on. You can do some side quests if you want, but there are too many to do them the first time you see them. Some maps have dozens and there are like a couple of dozen maps in the main game alone. They also give basically zero xp.

  Oh I don't plan to do them all, but as I am new to the game I figure most early quests/side quests are a good tutorial to all the systems etc in the game.

  I played FF14 for loong time very much (1 yeahr playtime) You get cool bossfights in the endgame but the rest is not rly good. I switched to Albion cause in FF14 every quest is the same: Walk to a,walk to b.... And after every addon your gear is useless...

  @@KurbStomped in the most MMOs sadly yes. Thats why i switched to a full loot game, where every item matters. If you see how a real economy works in a game you cant get back to those MMOs like FF14 or WoW.

  Do you mean like the little yellow quests that don't progress main story nor unlock anything? If so then yes, these quests are absolutely useless except for worldbuilding and flavour which by the sounds of it you do not care about that much. Also I feel like if you're trying to find a full loot open world pvp experience in a tab-targeting pve linear progression story driven mmo then yes, you may find it lacking

  @@remi3246 I think you misunderstood me. I had 1 year of pure playing time in Final Fantasy 14 and was a PVE player only before. At some point you realize that everything is always the same and you feel like you're going in circles. It was always the same: Stand around and wait for the daily content search or raid. The worst thing is the parasitic content that they often bring in with updates or add-ons. It will be grazed/farmed in the first few days and then you will waste it in the game. Borzia, Eureka, Atmas, special fates.... Or the approximately 5000 useless items that are never removed from the game. Just to level up cooking, you have to produce tons of completely unnecessary food, only to eventually produce an item that is useless again after the addon. This is just the tip of the iceberg. If you play it for a long time, you hardly notice this treadmill. After the main quest sent me from A to B for the hundredth time, I decided to look for something new. When I tried Albion a long time ago, I was completely overwhelmed as a Final Fantasy 14 theme park player because there were no quests :D I discovered it later and learned to love it with the help of a guild. Just the fact that every piece of armor is made by players. The economic system is one of the best I've seen in 16 years of gaming. Every content that SBI releases is neatly integrated into the game and not added on top. It complements and doesn't waste anything. And the great thing is, you can be whoever you want and you're not always the ultra hero who kicks the gods out of life with the snap of your fingers. You can do whatever you want, from horse breeder to distiller, farmer, ganker, avaraider, solo PVE or PVP. Simply write your own path and your own story. Once you get used to this freedom and the functioning economy, you can hardly go back to other MMORPGs. But I loved to raid in FF14. They are one of the best. Fighting against icons like Anima, Yojhinbo, Exdeath, Bahahmut, Shiva, Ifrit, Ramuh etc. through the IP alone. The housing is also good. translated with google translate :D

  The game has possible the best story spanning multiple expansions all connected heavily in same way. It's worth playing. ARR is all world building and making a name for your character. Heavensward is a Epic of betrayal and kinship, Stormblood is a war of reclamation of land lost, Shadowbringers IS AMAZING (Nothing I can say can prepare you for it or not spoil you), and Endwalker is the pinnacle of a calamity and final showdown. Dawntrail though not released yet is the long break for your character and return from Hero back to what you where, a Adventurer in new found land.

  You should! Probably one of the best stories I’ve encountered in games. The beginning might be a little slow because it’s made to teach and be accessible to someone who has never picked up an mmorpg but once that’s done it’s amazing.

  Glad to find people like this guy discovering Yakuza! I am replaying the games and I am a lil more than half way through Yakuza 5 but you dont exactly have to play all the games especially just to be caught up with Ichiban. I wont spoil anything so to be as vague and generic as possible, there's some references to previous games but its just a fresh story with different characters and its not a brawler beat em up. Side note: The whole thing about "you gotta play Yakuza 0, bla bla bla" annoys me and the community have their own ways to introduce new comers. If its too overwhelming, you can jump into Yakuza 7 and have no problem with playing it.
