I COOK, I EAT, I TRAVEL!
New Videos: Every Friday!
Hi! My name is Yvonne, and I LOVE food -- cooking it, eating it, photographing it, videoing it! I live in New York City with my husband Chris and am originally from San Francisco, California. I have loved cooking and eating for as long as I can remember.
As I got older and started earning my own money, I have used it mostly to travel and explore the US and nearly every continent, exploring new cuisines, flavors, ingredients, and cooking techniques. I've been truly inspired and humbled by the people I've met around the globe. I believe that food truly connects people regardless of origin or class, and that through food, we can better understand and empathize with people different from us.
Hopefully, you will enjoy my channel and follow me @yvonnemeetsfood on Instagram, Twitter, and Tiktok, as well, as I share my passion for food by cooking it, eating it, and traveling the world to discover and eat more of it!

Did yours taste bitter for burning the lavender?
I didn't burn my syrup. It came out nice and sweet. Thanks for your snark, though. I appreciate the engagement!

It‘s more traditional without the rice in the burrito.

Colombian coconut lemonade is made with condensed milk not sugar…..
Thanks for watching! I was told that some versions of it use regular sugar, so…..
Tried Mexican and Australian mangoes, never liked them. Had Indian kesar and Neelam mangoes. The best fruit ive ever tasted. Those other mangoes are rubbish
Haha - thanks for watching!
Mexican mangoes no comparison to Indian or Pakistani mangoes
lol, thanks for watching!
Mango has always been my favorite fruit since childhood. I'm Indian born in North America, so I've only ever tried the two most readily available mangoes here - Ataulfo and Alphonso. They both taste good, but despite being Indian I've always liked the Mexican mango's taste better and it's the only one I can even eat because Alphonso gives me a kind of unpleasant allergic reaction. I found out there's so many kinds of Indian mangoes, so I'm looking for one similar to Ataulfo, or at least doesn't have the same protein I'm allergic to. Kesar at least looks similar and it sounds delicious... if I can find it, I'll try it for sure.
thanks for watching! Where/how do you source your alphonso mangoes in North America? I've only ever seen them at Indian grocery stores during mango season when they are imported directly from India! We just ordered some Kesar mangoes online through Say Weee, and they have been really good!!
@@YvonnemeetsFood It's been a long time since my family bought any, but probably it was from an Indian grocery store. I'm pretty sure I've seen them in regular grocery stores a few times. I'm in Ontario btw.
I am originally from Texas, and my mother made what I now know to be ristaffel, but would she called "curried chicken". How this dish traveled from the West Indies to the vast plains around Amarillo, Texas, is a mystery. But, it has become our families favorite birthday celebration dish. We always had chopped green scallions, crushed peanuts, toasted coconut, chopped tomatoes, Indian chutneys of several flavors, chopped fried bacon, chopped eggs were the whites were chopped together and the yolks put on top so that it look like a fried egg and a bowl, white rice, and simmered chicken breast shredded into a bright yellow curry powder flavored gravy. I know that my mother learned this dish from one of the other women in her circle, but I did not know that every family didn't eat it. Whenever we had company for one of us kids this would be the dish we would often prepare. It was so loved that it was the first dish I learned to cook, and now at age 66, I still make this several times a year for birthdays and other celebrations. I have since learned about how many side dishes there are actually available for this meal. Literally, you can find dozens of things to add at the table. The history of this meal is one of Dutch pride in the things that they achieved in the West Indies, and it is delicious. This particular meal the poster is eating looks even better than anything my mother ever thought to make. Thank you so much for sharing this! I think I'll go home and make it tonight!
Thank you so much for sharing this lovely story. I hope you made it!! It's quite a feast!
One, this is not Kesar mango, and two,Ataulfo is no match to Kesar
I mean, that's what the Indian store owner told me!!
Plastic knife sweetie, not fork. Lol😊😊😊
LOL, thanks for the correction.
Please do another video with Chile rellenos burritos😊😊😊😊😊
do they have them in San Francisco? Not sure if I have seen them!
Try Banganapalle variety from AP india.
I've had it in India! They are delicious!
My syrup turned solid, I think simmering for 5 mins was too long and the lavender was pretty strong from simmering/quantity. I’ll probably just melt the sugar and water then throw the lavender and turn off stove and let it sit for 5 min next time and add vanilla extract
Oh no! I'm so sorry that happened. I'm sure you could still use the syrup, though, and dilute it with some more water to save it.
@@YvonnemeetsFood no worries! I did use 1/4 cup of sugar and water, so not sure if that might expose it to more heat from burner setting. I’m still using what I made and I’ll try to diluting. Thanks!
@@drewsdetour I also wonder if your burner is just a lot more powerful than mine haha. I'll probably tweak the directions and say "simmer for 5 min, or until the lavender fragrance is wafting through your kitchen." :D
Exactly I dont know about ataulfo mengo but kesar is my mengo so I thought kesar is more sweeter than this
Thanks for watching!
Kind of an unfair comparison getting a super burrito and regular burrito. One has guac and sour cream and the other doesn't...
Ha - that's a pretty fair point. Thanks for calling it out. And thanks for watching!
@@YvonnemeetsFood Have you been to either of these places recently? Been thinking of taking my girlfriend to the area next time she visits. She's from Canada and doesn't have a lot of Mexican food in her town. How are the lines on weekends? How safe does it feel around Mission St. nowadays (more so for my girlfriend, don't want to spook her)? Any recommendations?
@@califilipino Thanks for watching and reaching out! Mission feels super safe - it's very busy and gets lots of foot traffic, both day and night. The last time I went to either of these places was in 2021, and they are still delicious!
Bring in Alphonso mangoes if u dare!
Haha, we couldn't source them in the U.S. for this video!
🙏🙏
I’m literally eating a carne asada el farolitos super burrito best not only in SF but in general 🔥🔥🔥
thanks for watching!
If you want an even better gyro go to kalimera in oakleigh for a proper Greek experience in Melbourne. My experiences at lambs on chapel have never been good. This is coming from a Melburnian born and raised with a Greek background.
La traduccoon horrible

oooh, sounds good. thanks for watching!
Just saw and will try tomorrow
yes! please report back what you think. thank you for watching!
so many asians judging mex food bs
It’s pretty narrow minded to think that people of a different ethnicity cannot have an opinion of a certain country’s food, but hey, you’re entitled to your opinion, too!
Wondering.. is this the "old" Garoeda? Because it has been taken over. It's now Garuda, a posh, trendy, gastrobar.
Never buy Bakapples with water added...if you see liquid water in your bakeapples it means they were picked before they were ripened. (That is how they are usually picked in Newfoundland!). If they were picked in Labrador, by Labradorians they would not have been picked until fully ripened! Fully ripened bakeapples should not be very sour.
awww, I had no idea! It was the only way we saw them on the side of the road!!!! now I know better thanks to you. :D
Every year, I travel to the Netherlands, and I always set aside a time for a leisurely rijstael. I also enjoy lager beer with the meal.
That's so nice! Thanks for watching! Enjoy your trip this year!

The Bronx doesn’t usually top lists in great food videos so I’m glad you loved it here since I think the food is often slept on. Greetings from The Bronx.
The Bronx has endless good food! I wish more people went there and recognized this! Thank you for watching. :)
Imagine if she had a Pakistani mango! When my dad came to America in the 70s they couldn't believe Americans didn't know what mangos were.
LOL, I would LOVE to try a Pakistani mango!!
Thank you for doing this
thank you for watching!! hope you enjoyed.
@@YvonnemeetsFood A friend from the Netherlands told me about this. Imagine my surprise when my ex wife is Indonesian I can make most of that at a reasonable cost and enjoy sharing
Thank you so much. Can you recommend a good area of Queens to stay overnight where we can enjoy shopping and eating out? We will be quite jet lagged flying in from Tel Avi in the evening. Spending the night then flying out of La Guardia at 5pm. Appreciate it. :)
Thanks for watching! I love Jackson Heights for food!! It also has a bus there that goes directly to LGA!
