I realize that this video is 5 years old and you probably abandoned the idea of this channel, but I found this content refreshing so I thought I'd give you some kudos. I mean assuming you even look at this account anymore. My opinion: You have a great delivery and approached your shop tips with common sense for the "normal" woodworker/maker. Your camera presence seems effortless and you come across as "real" and humble. It's too bad you're not putting out more videos. In the super bloated field of woodworking/making channels, it's nice to stumble on people like you that don't work in front of a beautiful pristine wall of intentionally displayed hand tools that cost more individually than my old craftsman 113 table saw!!! Cheers sir!

Wow! Thank you so much! You’re right, i did decide not to keep making videos, but honestly comments like this make me reconsider it! I’ve actually been thinking of making videos again recently. Thanks again for the thoughtful feedback and maybe I’ll have a some more videos in the near future!

Good video and good tips. My garage shop looked a lot like yours before you started. I am half way through my hoard and I am starting to see the end of the cleanup. Like a lot of people I have too many interests (fascinations) to allow an easy organization. I have managed to organize the lathe area, the mill area, the welding area. I downsized the huge craftsman cast iron belt drive table saw and settled for a Rigid saw on a collapsible wheeled cart. That helped a lot. I have most of my steel tucked away in the shed and the wood on wall racks. I liked your drop zone idea! Thumbs up and subscribed.

Wow! What a difference you made. I love the "stop time?" videography, that must have taken forever to film. I am a very "old school" organized person. I find French cleats to really help as they keep the right tools very close to the work and its very visual as apposed to being hidden in a box. Thanks!

It's not as bad as yours at the beginning but I have a pile of stuff that I don't know what to do with...I did make a wall of french cleats a couple years ago which has helped immensely but I guess the organization is just an ongoing procedure.

One of the most useful pieces of advice I got as a young man was from an old man that had 20 acres of junk and could find anything. Jake's rule was "like items together". It really helps me get and keep things at a level that I can live with --- bolts here, paint stuff here --sandpaper here, etc. It works.

I started cleaning up but mostly reorganizing my shop late last week. I am having to dismantle some tools, I have all my machinery installed on wheeled cabinets or stands. And I find the need to change the way I use them because I am out of room so much so that I can't use any of my machinery. Part of my problem is that, I have so many tools that don't have a home. I bought sheet material at the Home Depot that I am now making tool cabinets to hold these homeless tools. I have two Husky Brand Tool Cabinets full of tools but even they are not enough. I had to just today, remove some power tools off of a 3 foot by 6 foot work bench that I had made a few years ago. They along with a machinists and woodworker vise will be relocated. The machines, 4 grinders, 2 sanding machines and a table type jigsaw will go into cubby hole shelving I am going to make that will be above where I position my new tool cabinets. The tool cabinets will be on wheels for versatility. I gotta get this done before the winter sets in. Thanks for your video, it really hit home and you have inspired me even more. I just haven't accomplished anything this summer because of disorganization. I will be more tuned in as to where I locate the tools I use more frequently. All the best.
