All the advice I got was to close off the gable vents so the side airflow would not interfere with the airflow up from the soffit vents through the ridge vent. This has helped the upstairs be more comfortable in the summer. Same with turning off our attic fan to not interfere with the airflow up and out the ridge vent.

@@letsdiymyhome Thank SO MUCH for the tips. I really appreciate it. Just bought a 940 sq ft. home that was built in 1955. Rectangle structure with 10/12 roof, gables on each end of the home, facing east & west. One whirlybird/turbine, no soffit vents. No insulation. Second story has 6' ceilings (where the upper 1/2 of the wall is at 45* angle, just as you described at one portion of your video). There was clearly water damage on some portions of the 2nd story ceiling sheetrock. Pulled it down, and saw water stains on roof and back of sheetrock, but even after a weekend-long rain, saw no water coming through the ~20yr old shingle roof. Dunno if the previous owner had the leaks fixed or if it's condensation. I'm betting the latter. Long story short, I don't know if that qualifies as a "hot roof". Had a new metal roof put on, and took down the turbine. Roofer suggested putting up gable vents and not soffit vents. (Apparently his roofing system doesn't allow for ridge vents??) But he's a young kid, so I don't know if he's guessing or giving professional advice. Thanking you for any/all suggestions.

Would the power roof vent, solar power roof vent and whirlybirds all work the same? Whirly use air to turn and solar power vents use solar/sun to power it to turn? The power roof vents I guess are wired but don't they still do the same job as the other two? Don't they all suck up air? I'm just asking. I was looking into the solar power vents. Thanks.

Great video! My home is a modular and every truss ends about 2 feet from the ridge vent by a cross-truss and the then built a “cap” section across the roof top after they lifted the roof sections up with crane to meet the cap section. Do I need to drill holes in that board between each truss to cause the air to find the ridge vent or will it find its way ? Thanks.

About 15 years ago a bunch of people around me got new metal roofs. I took notice to watch how they held up. Eventually I would need a new roof also. The paint on those roofs was fading badly at 3 years old. Fading more every year. Their looking quite bad now. One roof I watched was a commercial grade roof on a large church. It also faded badly in a few years also. I talked with a home owner about his metal roof. He said he would go back to a asphalt roof eventually. The metal roof has been a nightmare. Water leaks. The rubber seals on his roof dry rotted. He had the roofing company replace screws which he paid for. Slightly longer screws with new rubber seals. Eventually those rubber seals will rot again.

Don't overlook the tiny 1/2" screws that are normally on the hinges ! You need to add at least two 3" deck screws into the studs and at least one 3" screw into the door itself on each hinge of the door . Now you have security on both ends of the door .

I was living in the Ecuadorian Higlands, and we usually had very high UV, so most sealants in windows and any expossed surface would get destroyed very quickly. I also noticed the sealants dind't always have an appropiate description of its composition (it isn't required by law), so any time we had to repair something the stuff wouldn't last (imagine how many repairs). Now that I'm living in Germany I'm surprise by the amount of options and had no idea what to use to renovate the bathroom. Thank you so much for explaining.

I was told by several roofing contractors that felt paper is no longer used because of being a oil base product and because the paper deteriorates overtime. The other reason is that the manufacturer will the honor this for the warranty.
@letsdiymyhome24 күн бұрын
well if your using asphalt shingles you want felt paper as for there statement "oil base product and because the paper deteriorates overtime" that is correct as the paper dries out the oils are absorbed into the shingles extending the life of the product.... they like synthetic felt but pending their there install habits (hammer tacker) its not watertight anyways, heck the time they install the shingle its not water tight ether. its only benefit is fast install and somewhat water tight tell the shingles are covered. Our roofers are roofers are begging for synthetic felt but no they are not getting it.
