    So are the heliconias acting as an emergent plant or more of a medium/high strata in this system? I see there are a lot of taller canopy trees near by but none right where the fruit trees are like you might see in more typical syntropic rows.

    Hello, I have been following your channel very well. Your channel video topic and quality are very good. You can take your channel even further if you want. But there are some important issues in your channel which will not grow your channel easily if not solved. and your channel SEO score is absolutely zero. this is why your you tube growth is very low. If you can solve these problems your channel will grow very quickly. subscribers, views, like, comments is very low according to your channel age. and views, like, comments are also very low according to your subscribers. because channel setting problem and video SEO problem. If these two problems were not present in your channel today you would have got many times better results.

    Just so you know, right before I got blocked, I was typing up a message saying "Good Luck with your group and I hope it goes well for you and everyone else. Theres still a few thsousand fake facebook acounts on that group that are bots, which are using your group to data mine the actual group members. Please treat them well and help prevent them from getting thier data stolen from them. Take care and have lots of luck and fortuen in this great new year. I hope mine is better, my father just died recently in my arms. I never wish any harm or bad things for anyone, despite how I'm treated. Be safe and healthy.

    ive been thinking of them as cultivar groups, like a subspecies. instead of a single gene line its a diverse group of genes (multiple organisms) grown as a line.

  • @thegourmetgardenschool
    @thegourmetgardenschool7 ай бұрын

    Thats a great way of thinking of them! Yes and the diverse group is all the stronger the more adaptable it is, and probably like with bodies and exercise, good forms of stress can be a healthy opportunity to strengthen the group. It’s very exciting!!

  • @OsirusHandle
    @OsirusHandle7 ай бұрын

    @@thegourmetgardenschool yes exactly. natural selection is much faster if you dont have to wait a decades for mutations and by putting it under natural stresses it will select for resistant just like in the wild. goes best with perma culture where you want to let pests like aphids run around anyway to attract predators: much better than spraying poison!

    Ooh thank you, that's an excellent suggestion! I'm not growing that type & I'm keen to now you suggest it! I'm a BIG fan of the basils, all of them seem to be of value and some more prolific than others depending on conditions. One of the perennials I love is the tulsi basil- AMAZING bee forage and aside from it growing too tall for typical veggie garden preferences, it's a great hedging, food forest, and edge plant! Thanks for sharing that, basils are so worth a mention!

    What causes the fermented process if there is no yeast ? Curious

  • @thegourmetgardenschool
    @thegourmetgardenschool2 жыл бұрын

    The yeast is supplied by the wild yeasts from the air that fall through the cloth covering the pot + any that were present in the honey or on the fruit. There's alot of wild yeast living on the skin of fruit, but because i peeled these mangos, most (but not all) of the yeasts on the skin would have been lost. Plenty enough around in the air though, and the main reason that commercial brewers wouldn't want them is their inherent wildness and unpredictability.

  • @thegourmetgardenschool

    It's still fermenting!- It's in the long term phase now, in my experience mead just gets better and better over months and years. Still haven't bottled it!

  • @thegourmetgardenschool
    @thegourmetgardenschool2 жыл бұрын

    We did try a sip of the one with anise hyssop and i'm sad to say the flavours were overpowering. A light infusion added could have been great, but steeping in the brew as it fermented made it taste awful. Luckily the others didn't have any and were spared the fate of rejection. Ahh the experimenting never ends:)

  • @Starwalka

    When you leave it for a few days do you just leave the pot out in a area of 25 degrees c or are you cooking it at 25

  • @thegourmetgardenschool
    @thegourmetgardenschool2 жыл бұрын

    We left the pot out in ambient temps, approx 25C for those initial few days. No external heat needed, but if trying this where air temps are low, a controlled brewing temp would be best.

    Thanks Ian. This week I scythed a patch of monsterous grass to build my garden again, which had some flood affected grass and plant life. I've gone through and aerated the soil today, which looked okay and I added some lime and manure. With this rain I'm hoping for it to spread through the soil. I really loved your suggestion in this video, I think in the coming days I'm going to dig up some rows, add the scythed grass, then put the soil on top with some blood and bones... and cover crop is a cool idea while i nurse my food crop to young seedlinghood. Thank you so much for the inspiration, deeply appreciated. I'll send some piccies

  • @thegourmetgardenschool
    @thegourmetgardenschool2 жыл бұрын

    Great question Rhea! To minimise plastic waste, when using black plastic like this I choose the thickest builders plastic I can get because it lasts for many more uses. 200um (microns) is the minimum thickness I recommend. Alternatively a tarp or several would work perfectly too. Both available from your local hardware store. Hope this helps🌿
