I’ve had a YTH21K46 since 2012, and have had no major problems with it. Currently, it needs a new drive belt, and I’ll find out about the transmission when the belt is replaced in the next week or two. The Kohler engine has held up better than I expected.
Hello, I’m 18 and have a little mole catching business… I use a combination of trapline and wiretek traps. Lately it’s been taking me a lot longer than usual to get catches. Lots of moles are getting under the wiretek without setting it off. A customer recently gave me some cinch traps for free and I’ve gotten one catch in probably about 9 sets. I’m in Texas so the soil is different from house to house. I’d love to hear your take on
If they're getting under the wiretek trap, it could be either it's not being set deep enough into the tunnel or the trap is too difficult to trigger and the moles find it easier to just dig deeper instead of pushing up completely to trigger the trap. The triggers are hard to set off on these and can become sticky with dirt and rust, so these traps have to be kept clean and lubricated before each use. It might even need to be sanded or filed down a bit to keep the trigger components working smoothly. My best advice to improve the catch rate with the cinch traps is to make sure you're setting them as deeply as possible into the tunnel and ensure the tunnel section is reasonably straight. If there is a sharp turn near the trigger, the moles often dig around the trigger instead of trying to push it out to trigger the trap. Also, realize nothing is going to work 100% of the time; some moles seem to have a knack for evading the traps more than others. This will be difficult for customers to understand, but it's how it is. Hope this helps.
Very helpful! Where would I lubricate the wireteks and what should I use? I’ve never thought about any of that to be honest. And where would it need sanding down? That’d be a great video idea but I wonder if it would be in demand lol

Anxiously awaiting….. I have a 2011 and I had a no start at 1st I thought it was the fuel pump replaced it everything was fine for a little bit and then the same thing so I thought it might’ve been the relay as you know, in some engineers wisdom instead of a fuel pump relay that you can simply change out it is soldered into the board so I use the jumper cable to go around. It seems to be working but now once in a while when there’s a lot of rain, sometimes it’s a hard start the only thing I can think of now it to start replacing wires
D105 mowers had transmission recalls
Indeed. This mower came with a light duty CVT transmission with a plastic case. I never had issues with mine, but I came to the conclusion that I really needed a heavy duty unit for my property. Unlike a hydro, the CVT also required shifting from forward to reverse with a lever, and the operation at low speed was really jittery. I like my hydrostatic transmission much, much better.
At around 7:53 in, it looks like your are starting by pulling the cord with very little effort to wind it, then releasing it like a coiled spring and it fires off. Is this just the timing of the video vs. the audio track, or does this chainsaw have an unusual starting method?

Thank you for this video. There’s so many people with this problem. there should honestly be a recall. This is so unfair to everybody that owns one of these campers you spend all this money on a known problem and the worst part the sales people tell you oh no this is a new motor. We don’t have the problem with these anymore. Your video was very helpful. I’m thinking about using plexiglass on the roof, as sort of a umbrella over the shaft to try to help keep water out. I’ll let you know how it works out. now thinking about it as I’m writing this. I don’t know what the largest size of shrink tubing is there would be a way to seal that top post, it may prevent a lot of problems. Maybe try painting it with flexseal I’ll keep you posted.
Thank you for the comments. With regards to sealing the top of the lift arm posts, the top cap could be removed and sealed with silicone or similar. You could also potentially seal the tops of the plastic covers, but water will still enter from the attachment pin holes at the top of the lift arms. There's an aftermarket company that makes a one-piece solution that is supposedly completely sealed and waterproof, but it would require replacing the entire assembly, sealing existing holes, and drilling new holes. And some people have seen early failures on these as well. My best advice would be to store the camper under cover if possible and routinely check the lift arms and gearboxes for lubrication.
Done this on my Husqvarna, and it made a big difference in steering, Great upgrade!

This worked great! I added these needle roller bearings and combined it with a steering wheel knob. Steering is much easier and I really notice a significant difference.

They all have produced good saws and some not so great. I grew up running sthill, husky and the occasional dinosaur homelite / mac. I generally reached for the sthil due to it just always starting. Huskys were a little tempermental in my humble opinion but worth the effort if you were cutting up a sizable trunk as you could dig the felling dogs in and just lever through because they generally had more torque. A friend of mine recently bought a weekender husky from one of the box stores. Ran well enough but one bar nut?! I know its a consumer grade but damn. I'm really just kinda disheartened to see so many brands absorbed by husky. I.e. zenoha/redmax, jonesreed. I kike choices and they are beconing less and less. That said i took a chance on a echo cs-490 open box on ebay a few years back for $200. I wish i bought all they had at that price because i would likely never need another saw. I have many chords of wood through the echo and recently bought a new bar. Thing starts without fail every time. The power to weight is perfect with muffler mod. I can run it all day unlike the cs-590 or other larger saws. Truth be told the 20" bar is pushing it a little bit for the displacement (especially as echo seems to tune for longevity rather than performance.) But better to have the 20 for utility . Next purchase will probably be echo / shindiawa 34cc 16" for limbing. I'm getting older amd while i can run the cs -490 all day a lighter limbing saw looks attractive sometimes. I mention shindiawa as they have some excellent deals right now and they are pretty much a carbon copy of an echo pr vice versa. Shindiawa 335s @ home depot right now to your door for 219 at home depot. Always wanted to give makita dolmar a shot but never had a shop that carried them anywhere near me. Having access to parts is kind of a deal breaker which sucks because i am sure they make a fine saw. Unless something changes or i encounter a deal too good to pass up... i don't think i will buy another stihl or husky.

i have had mine for over 5 years,never had a issue with it i use it to tow my ski boat arounnd the rancch and my airplane in and out of my hanger. and it is a antique airplane big and heavy does the job just fine. did have to buy a used craftsman self propelled mower to get the edges of my lawn, but the husky works just fine, winter i attach the snowblower or the snowplow to it. but i did replace the rear tires with some heavy duty atv tires for more traction.

Yeah, it didn't work for me. I also tried it on my mower, and it got stuck instantly. As with the tractor, the traction seemed to get worse after spraying. I'd like to do some more testing in different conditions to see if it ever improves traction, but I'll have to wait for colder weather.
I have a 08 power wagon with a 1300 lbs dry slide in camper. I installed airbags but still don't feel stable. Leaf springs are soft in the power wagon for off-road capabilities. Have you done anything to the rear-end of you truck to get rid of the sway?

I've has 2 54" deck modes with 30 hp. Only major prob with current one was sump gasket leaking.
As 0f July 2024 you can still order 80 volt Kobalt Chainsaw through LOWES online. I'm even looking at replacing the 18" with the Oregon 20" bar and chain for my KOBALT 80 volt chainsaw. I have (2) Kobalt 80-volt 18" Bar Chainsaws and use (2) 5 AH Batteries. I’m 79 and love NO more having to pull a cord to start a gas-powered chainsaw. My first 80-volt 18" Bar Chain saw with a 5-AH Battery and charger was $400 in Jul 2021. - I use them on our Southeast LA farm of 18 acres of tall large pine trees that were devastated by a Hurricane and tornado. On 10 acres of the property, nearly all the trees are down or dead. My chainsaws have been working great and cutting huge logs and trees and logs up to 20"+ and it works great. Yes, I definitely love the ability to just grab the saw and start cutting - no mixing gas, no pulling on the cord, no warm up cycle, no air filter, no fiddling with the carburetor, etc. The 80V is a strong saw and roughly equivalent to a 50cc gas saw. With a couple of batteries, a typical homeowner could quite easily replace their gas saw with one of these.

I use this 80V saw quite a bit and was pleasantly surprised by the power and battery life with the larger 5AH battery. It doesn't work well for slabbing work, as the bars get warped or pinched and no one makes a heavy duty solid bar for it. However, it works great for general storm cleanup or firewood tasks. I've worked it hard, and the oiling gear is the only failure I've had (cheap & easy fix). I believe the batteries, motor controller, and motor on these are quite solid. I wish the parts availability was better, but considering that it has saved me a ton of time over maintaining a gas engine, I certainly don't regret buying it.
Great video. You covered the differences very well and I'm sure it will help others choose the right saw for them. I prefer Stihl's pro saws hands down myself. The rim sprocket on the pro saw has the advantage of changing it out easy without replacing the whole clutch drum. Also you can change from a 6,7 or 8 tooth sprockets as long as you get the oiler worm gear that matches and to other chain pitch too. It is more versatile. The pro saws are meant to hold up longer through heavier use than the homeowner saws. All around better quality. The 261 has one of the best power to weight ratios too. @9:00 - the difference in these cuts is the weight of the log on top of the gas-powered vs the electric not being under the strain of the log's weight. But this is a test I didn't expect to see. THANKS because this is the exact thing I intended on doing with the saw I purchase. Great video.
Thanks for the comment. There's no difference in weight on the bar between top and bottom cuts, as the log is not sitting on the bar and wedges are used to prevent pinching of the bar. Also note that while the 80V saw is capable of slabbing in terms of power, the bars available for this saw are not intended for heavy use and thus get warped or pinched easily from the weight and bolt torque of the lumber mill attachment. I've only been able to perform a few slabs before having to replace the thin laminated bars available for this saw, and I've never been able to find a solid bar for this saw. I have multiple videos on slabbing that might help.

Wouldn’t those bearings get a lot of dirt in them? I know when mowing my yard, and the previous place I had too, there would be a lot of dirt kicked-up when mowing. I’d think the dirt would ruin them pretty quickly, but who knows.
Yes, but the Amsoil metal protector and periodic greasing will help prevent damage from water and dust.
Next Video how about one relating to a seat upgrade? Don't understand why other mowers have springs and all Husqvarna has is the 2 rubber pegs that make it feel like your riding a mechanical bull. Just a idea for a upcoming video. Thanks

I added the bearings to my Husqvarna TS-348D garden tractor. The steering effort was reduced from a real struggle to being able to steer with 2 fingers. Thanks for the info! This will help my old arms and shoulders. The dust caps are now loose and I will have to find a way to hold them on.

What engine is in the TS348D? Mine is the TS 354D, and has the Kohler 7000.
How much of a job was the wheel bearing mod?
I think Makita is more durable and will beat Stihl in the long term.
I see you are a little OCD on lawnmower maintaining (just like me) You can save some cash by buying a Ford oil filter FL400S it's longer than the Stens and cheaper but you can't run with the plastic grill on that side due to it's length. If you insist on the grill being in place, buy a Ford filter FL910S, it's a little shorter. They are great filters and cheaper at Wall Mart. Good video's, Thanks

I wonder if this is the same with the 24v Kobalt, because I have the same problem. It leaks pretty much all of the bar oil out of the reservoir. Pretty sad because it's a great saw.
I don't have familiarity with the 24V saw, but it wouldn't take much effort to remove the side cover to take a look. However, leaking oil is a separate issue and could be related to a damaged or loose hose or seal. Temperature fluctuations can also cause oil leaks, as a closed plastic tank will contract when it gets cold and expand when warmer, acting like a pump. You can loosen the cap to allow better venting or drain the tank when storing the saw to help with this.

4years? I've a Husqvarna GT 2254 garden tractor that has served me faithfully since 2006. Still going strong on the original mower deck spindles...amazing what regular greasing can do! Have done regular, routine maintenance on the unit, replaced belts as needed, adjusted things as needed. Original B&S 22hp V twin going strong, regular filters

This. Mower won't last for long in these conditions
6 years so far and no signs of undue stress or related issues. This is not a light duty yard tractor. It has a commercial grade engine, heavy duty transmission, heavy duty mower deck, bolt-on wheels, etc.

Many reasons why I might choose one mower over the other on any particular day. To say that the decision was stupid would presume you know the reason(s) behind the decision. Since I didn't tell you the reason(s) for using my garden tractor instead of my sub-compact tractor on this particular day, I'm not clear what basis you have for concluding that it was a stupid decision.
