I'm 71. I graduated high school in May 1971. I had a very good friend that was ahead of me a year. He graduated and went straight to Vietnam. He was infantry. He left an easy going person that loved to party and have a good time. He made it a little over a year there and was never physically wounded but he was wounded in another way. When he came back he was hooked on heroin really bad. Wasn't even the same person. He made it trough all that over there came back home and got killed in less than a month home. High on heroin he hit a bridge in his car traveling a 120 miles per hour. Had to cut him out of the car. That war was useless. Our troops went and fought for nothing. What really sucked was our troops came back and was spit on by our on people called baby killers. Unlike today everyone that comes back is a hero. And the bad thing is we had no choice. We were drafted. God bless all the Vietnam veterans.

+1000000000000000000500 The crimes committed under communist regimes have been widely documented and acknowledged. These crimes include: 1. Mass killings: Communist regimes have been responsible for large-scale killings of their own people, often in the name of preserving the revolution or quashing dissent. Examples include the Great Purge under Stalin in the Soviet Union, the Killing Fields in Cambodia under Pol Pot, and the Tiananmen Square Massacre in China. 2. Forced labor and concentration camps: Communist regimes have often used forced labor and concentration camps to control their populations and punish dissenters. Examples include the gulags in the Soviet Union and the Laogai system in China. 3. Purges and persecution of intellectuals: Communist regimes have often targeted intellectuals and others who were perceived as a threat to the regime. This has led to the suppression of academic freedom and the condemnation of intellectualism. 4. Censorship and propaganda: Communist regimes have used censorship and propaganda as a means of controlling the flow of information and shaping public opinion. 5. Socialist planned economies: Socialist planned economies have led to shortages, famines, and economic collapse in many countries that have implemented them.

The music and feel of the song and the era may have been a little naive, but can you feel the difference in the messaging? The era was filled with positivity and hope, whereas the current is filled with hopelessness and anger. Which works better? It's not being filled with nostalgia, but I long for the spirit of 1967.

The war was unnecessary and stupid. It is natural that Vietnam would be an American ally given who sits up North of them.... Too bad the USA did not understand it was a war of national liberation. Too bad the Vietnamese did not understand the American world order would not be like French colonialism. Today Vietnam would be on the level of at least Malaysia and most likely Korea and millions would not have died.
