    Nice work! Do you have a working differential lock pedal for the deep mud? For some reason all the Dextas & Superdextas I've seen (& the two I own) have had the diff lock pedal/damper removed -- I've always wondered why.

  • @V4XEN
    @V4XEN8 ай бұрын

    Thanks! Yes, I do have a working differential lock. I probably would have gotten myself stuck hundreds of times if mine was missing. That's interesting to hear about how all of the Dextas and Superdextas that you have come across/own to have that missing. I could understand how the link there could be broken if the tread plate has rusted out and been removed, as when that is missing there is nothing there to stop the peddle and the weight could become too much for the link, causing it to break. I say this as I have currently got my tread plate removed and have experienced using the diff lock peddle engage and then feeling my weight being supported by such a small connecting rod. When this occurred, I realised how easy it would be to break it when this happens. Not sure if that is what occurred on the other Dextas, but made me cautious of my own. Thanks for bringing this to my attention!

    @@V4XENThanks for the helpful reply! I'm on the Canterbury plains so perhaps the flatness & the generally sandy/stony soil make the differential lock less essential. I'd wondered if they'd resulted in broken differentials or something, and that's why they'd been removed, but your explanation makes much more sense. Mystery solved, I think!

    On the older dextas (not new performance) with the pneumatic governor, if the lift pump diaphragm goes the diesel will drip from the bottom of the injection pump through the pipe with the loop in it, it shouldn't get to the sump and definitely won't get into the cylinders. I don't know if this is the same as the later mechanical pumps as fitted to the super dexta and new performance dexta. I can't think how it would though as the lift pump is mounted on, and driven by the injection pump and there isn't a direct connection to the sump, other than it going via the timing cover.

  • @V4XEN
    @V4XEN8 ай бұрын

    Thanks for sharing your experience! My thoughts are the same. Since having this happen and uploading this video, I have not had it happen again. I am currently working on a more permanent solution to replace the temporary one I came up with in this video. Cheers!

    I had the same issue with my dexta causing a hydro lock. I fixed it by taking the glow plug out then using a big screwdriver to crank the engine backwards at the starter ring through the small timing inspection cover. the diesel went out the way it went in but running out the glow plug hole. Now I always turn the diesel off at the tank tap when idle. Mine has a spring and ball bearing assembly at the spray nozzle which didn't do it's job. I've tried four of the nozzles with the small valve and every one has leaked. I've also tried fitting a clack valve on the 3/16" pipe the runs from the tank valve up to the heater valve. The spring was initially way too strong so i chopped it down until it seemed to be letting pressurised diesel past. The issue now is that the diesel loses pressure at the clack valve and no longer sprays onto the glow plug, it's more of a stream so it doesn't start as quickly and need the starter/charger to give it a boost in colder weather. I'd be interested to know if the Agriline valve/nozzle leaks. the ones i got were from APUK and my assumption was the all came from the same factory so would all leak.

  • @V4XEN

    Hi, Thanks! If you haven't already, I would start by pulling apart and scrubbing clean the brake shoes and drum with petrol or brake cleaner. Hi I have a dexta the same as yours it has the same front end loader as well. Jimmy across the rd from you replaced the top bearing under steering wheel about 5 years ago. It has never been that easy to steer. That was before the front end loader was installed and now it is just hard to steer. Haven't tried to remove or replace shims in the bottom of steering box as yet. To add oil to stering box, I have been undoing nut on top of steering wheel and putting oil down steering shaft. Still has quite a bit of play in steering. I have taken out the small grub screw to oil the top bearings under the steering wheel. In your videos, yours appears to be alot easier to steer than mine. Any ideas.

  • @V4XEN
    @V4XEN Жыл бұрын

    Hi, thanks for your comment. It really is a small world. Firstly, I would pull the side off the steering box to check that the oil is actually getting in there from the top. From that point, assuming your front steering pinions and ball joints are well greased, you may need to add a thin plate/shim on the side of the steering box (in this video I was removing a plate to make my steering firmer). The only time my steering has ever been "hard" has been when my steering pinions needed greasing and I didn't have enough plates/shims on my steering box. Hopefully this helps! Let me know how you get on.

    Great video. There a an outer seal on the other side of the bearing. In a dexta it involves removing a metal collar which is a bit labor intensive. I’m wondering if the primary function of the outer seal is to hold grease in the bearing. Any thoughts? Did replacing the inner seal fix the leak?

  • @V4XEN
    @V4XEN Жыл бұрын

    Hi and thanks! I agree with what you are saying. The inner seal keeps the oil inside the diff etc and the outer seal stops dust and water getting in to the bearing and in effect keeps the grease in. This is a crazy question but if the inner seal keeps oil in the differential and the outer seal keeps dirt from getting in to the bearing, what keeps the bearing lubricated?

  • @V4XEN
    @V4XEN Жыл бұрын

    @@inspector2835 The bearing should be packed with grease which keeps it lubricated. The outer seals keep the grease in and prevents contamination from water/dirt etc. The inner seal also stops the diff oil from contaminating the grease. At least that is how mine is. Thanks for your question, I hope this helps!

  • @inspector2835
    @inspector2835 Жыл бұрын

    @@V4XEN That is what I figured. The only thing that has me stumped is that when you put the collar on the shaft next to the bearing, the collar has to be heated red hot to get the collar to seat. I figured that the red hot collar will melt any grease out of the packed bearing and once in place, would not allow room to repack the bearing again.
