Wow, maybe I really should actually do a harmony in theory, teaching online and improvisation teaching online. I was taught by the brother of the person who taught Rick Beato. So what you just said his mind blowing. I’m used to knowing harmony 1000 times better than everyone I know other than the real Jazz cats but it’s amazing. It’s as bad as you just said is.

Holy shit, is this real. In my country for $70k you can buy a house, a car, or even two cars, fix all your teeth, buy a new good-looking wife, some crack or vitamins if you prefer. And you still will have some money to donate to a good music teacher like you, to actually learn to play something. But... BeRKLeE....! XDDDdd, sorry.

When I was there, serious guitarists went one of two ways: Studying with Mick Goodrick and Tim Miller or studying with Mick Goodrick and Dave Tronzo. Those who went the Tronzo route had a treasure trove of knowledge but no overt instruction on how to use it. Tronzo and Mick believed that music was the personal statement one made of one's own life through an instrument. We'd get together and talk about...art. But they were the MOST demanding teachers in the place because it was yourself you had to create, not what the school taught.

I received a Masters in Jazz Studies from UNT and have been playing and teaching ever since. It was a great experience, and I studied with a great teacher that helped me immeasurably. I am thankful everyday that I got to go. But as time has passed there seems to be a sea change, so much so that I quit encouraging young people to go to school for music, and actually quit teaching in a struggling university jazz department myself. Young people have figured the game of music out. I had many come to me in frustration over their future, so much so that in good conscience I couldn't encourage them to go in debt for a music degree. It saddens me to say this, but it is the world we live in today. You are an exceptional musician and your communication skills are excellent. Amazing video (the truth)! Thanks.

Hi Danny ! If I play scale by scale it's approximatively OK. (I'm still working on arpegios and scales to be 100% correct). But when I try to change from one to another by one random note (the closer one by example) i'm lost... I think perhap's it's because I only think thru intervals insteed of thinking by notes..? I'm a little bit affraid to learn every notes of each system / mode / arpegio, or at minimum the flats & sharps of . Is it really the thing to do ? Or there is another way ?

@@marbinmusicI will enjoy for sure lessons with U. I can't imagine it ! So talented, so multi-skilled, so fun... but, I'm over 8000Km from Chicago, and I have just enough money to pay my bills (caus'I spent too much time to practice and learn guitar instead of sell my own skills ;-) that's why I'm learning by free content that is available online. Thanks so much for that ! I wish you may have a lot of fortunated local students to support U, like that U can continue to dispend free essentials video courses for the poor rest of the world ;-) For the moment, I've spent 1h to elaborate an attack plan : I remember "all come from major scale", and you tell it : "dorian come from 2d degree of ..." so by the way I will try to learn first 12 tonalitys, that what I avoid until this moment, because of guitar intervals are easier to acquire... It seem's like to climb a moutain ! But it seem's I hav'nt choice too : I want to improvise, I have to climb the mountain ! Thanks for motivation ! And remember me : if you want to come in europe, I can find gigs, acomodate master classes & jams for U in south east of France and you're really welcome in this beautiful region. Thanks again for all. Have a great time. Sincerly.
