Show Me the Hawgs

Show Me the Hawgs

Welcome to Show Me the Hawgs! In 2019, I started this channel to share my love of fishing with anyone willing to watch. With my friend Billy, our goal in creating fishing videos is two fold: educate our viewers about fishing and entertain you along the way. We make various styles of videos like rig, knot, and gear tutorials, bait and lure tests, and demonstrating various methods of catching many species. Basically, if it swims, we'll figure out a way to catch it. We target gamefish such as catfish, bass, bluegill and other sunfish, crappie, trout, walleye, and paddlefish. Don't be surprised if you find us targeting some sharks! We also target less popular fish like gar, carp, drum, and buffalo. Our methods cover just about everything to include conventional tackle, fly fishing, bowfishing and fishing off the bank, out of a boat, and off kayaks and canoes. In the end, we hope you come away from our channel more knowledgeable and inspired to get out there and catch fish of your own!

    One of my favorite lures , mini crawdad, caught a fish on each hook at once. In the code-a-way river, Bass resort. Crawford county Mo.

    I bet! May have to try that in some of the trout streams in MO that allow it.

    Millions of fish were caught on these rebel crawdads and similar crank baits. That is until the manufacturers decided this type of lure didn't catch enough fishermen and the "natural paint job" lures came along, along with their $ 8 and up price tags.

    Yeah. When I bought these, they were $7 a piece after tax. Seems a bit excessive for an ultralight lure, but it’s the only type of this lure I could find at the stores near the house. At some point, I’m going to shoot a video about name brands vs generic brands. Are the name brands worth the money or can you catch fish just as well with the cheaper brands? Especially with inflation these days lure prices are out of control.

    Oh yeah that’s a great smallie lure for sure. Unfortunately there aren’t smallies in that creek. Need to get away from the city to find a stream with smallies living in it.

    Oh, and great video...good to see that an inexpensive lure like that pulled in all those fish.

    Thanks. It was fun seeing how many fish hit the lure.

    I'm trying to understand fish.. you pulled a ton of fish by the bridge, different species too.. Why didn't your presence/movement and the commotion of pulling fish in and releasing them drive all of the other fish away?

  • @ShowMetheHawgs
    @ShowMetheHawgsКүн бұрын

    Walking through the water definitely spooks them in the immediate area. They’ll retreat to find cover, but after some time in one spot, they get comfortable with me being there. At least the sunfish do anyway. When they see that lure, they’re not thinking about me. The lure is a threat or a potential meal. They’ll chase it up to a few feet away from me where they start to lose interest since I’m standing nearby. Bass, on the other hand, are a bit different especially the bigger ones. They’re smarter and warier than other fish. If they get spooked, it becomes a much more difficult game getting them to bite. That’s why I take it easy approaching those holes. Too much commotion might alert them to potential danger and discourage them from hitting a lure. There are lures and presentations you can use to target wary fish. May have to make a video about that in the future.

    For my money, ,Rebel lures are some of the most underrated around. I've used them since I was a kid and they always outfish Rapala and the like.

    Based on this trip, I’d agree with that. For whatever reason, I had one of these when I was a kid but never used it that often. After seeing craws in the creek and someone in the comments suggesting I use them, I figured it’s worth a shot. Didn’t disappoint.

    I saw a Reddit post where this guy was talking about seeing deformities on trout because they ate this type of bait (it has styrofoam in it), and their stomachs ruptured. It’s really good bait, but now I just stick to flies on bobbers.

    So even if it’s tied like this, what could be a reason that I continuously have it tangling or tying around while it’s out in the water

  • @ShowMetheHawgs
    @ShowMetheHawgs6 күн бұрын

    Tough for me to say without seeing it. Occasionally, my rig will get tangled on a cast. Not sure what causes it other than a bit of bad luck. However, you’re not the only one who’s brought this up to me. I’m going to make a video exploring why this happens and what can be done to prevent it.
