I still remember Jim Steranko's artwork during his " Nick Fury-Agent of SHIELD " and Captain America comicbook runs ! As I recall, Jim was a magician and used to publish MediaScene. Jim's work reminds me of opening movie scene montages ! He is brilliant. A friend of Wood named Russ Cochran published most of EC sci-fi and horror comics in a hardcover collector's edition. I still have the Weird Science Fantasy and the other one ! Thanks for posting this on. KZread :-)

Could someone please publish a guide of who-is-who, character-wise? Some are obvious, such as the Stan Lee and Jack Kirby ‘stand ins’, but others really tax my memory, as I forgotten a lot of my comic book history over the last 40 years.

Jim Steranko is a rock star! I love the story he tells about b***h slapping that charlatan Bob Kane. He's one of the few who always defended Bill Finger and his claim as the true creator of Batman.

That only 250,000 people in the US and Canada consume all the English language comics output a year (24:45) is profound. X-men was cancelled in 1970 because it ‘only’ sold 285,000 copies a month! In the late 1960’s Spider-Man sold a million copies a month! Comics have gone from a mass media to a cult!

I backed this comic and I can't wait to get this comic. I really like Golden Age characters, and there is just so much talent involved. And it's great they went with lesser known characters. It's too bad this didn't get more backers or attention. Sadly, some people would be too busy screeching about Mark Waid to actually focus on the merits of the comic.

I absolutely loved this. I lived in a small town that didn’t get direct market books until 1985, so I missed the initial phase of First Comics, but once I discovered them, my mind was blown. It’s the closest thing I can imagine to when fans first saw Lee/Kirby/Ditko Marvel comics in 1961-62. And these guys, John and Tim, were my Lee & Kirby in terms of sheer originality , wit, and excitement. First made the very best action/adventure comics in the early 80s, and when DC inevitably hired virtually their entire slate of creators in the mid 80s, they began making the best comics that DC ever published (along with their counterparts in the British comics scene, like Moore, Grant, Wagner, Gibbons, Davis, and Bolland). It’s a criminal shame that Ostrander and Truman are not household names to all comics fans.

I'm glad you liked it, I agree Truman and Ostrander are underappreciated and should be held in higher regard then they are.
