That’s why I say Senna is the goat, he never ever had the best of the best equipment. In 88 he had the same car as crying baby Prost. Senna goat.

Pity the great weather didn't last into the race. Would've been awesome to see Senna v Mansell over a full race distance on a dry Adelaide circuit...

I watch the Senna film from time to time and one thing that infuriates me is that there is a paragraph that says that there has not been a fatality in formula one since Ayrtons death. That is a load of rubbish, there have been at least 4 deaths since 1994 and that's since certain modifications have been made to prevent serious accidents and death. Ayrton will always be missed and so will all the other F1 legends. ❤❤❤❤

1st gp was Adelaide 85', I can't explain why we have a nostalgia that's so unshakeable but you had to be there. Only men drove in top teir and many died. They were Gods, make no mistake.

Of all impressive racing abilities, for me the most relevant is the fact Senna was able to make an inferior car go much faster than it would normally go, and this is, of course, because he was a very fast driver, but also because he was relentless and tenacious, always giving his very best to make any car he drove go as fast as he could. Inasmuch as I admire Hamilton very much, I have not seen the same relentless behaviour in him for the past two years. In 2001, he did show this kind of intensity, but not since then. Normally we see former successful drivers like Räikkönen, or Vettel falling into a comfort zone of sorts, and Alonso has shown the will to go all out more often than not. I would be curious to see how Verstappen behaved if he found himself in an inferior car in the coming future, something tells me he would be a fighter always. But Senna winning 5 races in 1993 in a Ford powered McLaren against Prost in a Williams Renault very much illustrates my point, as well as Senna scoring 3 poles in 1994 in a clunky Williams he definitely did not feel comfortable driving, against Schumacher in a Benetton with many goodies like traction control and other tricks we will never know about. Senna fought intensely, with all his soul until the very end.

I rly dont know why ppl are so delusional about Senna.. He wasnt even able to beat Prost consistently. In fact, Prost was arguably better. Sennas Setup was always focussed on quali. He got the worst Pole/Win ratio ever. How could he ever beat Mr Conistancy Schumacher? Ppl say Williams got better during the year.. Its not even true - Schumacher was DQ for 3(?) races - Also after Sennas Death the rules for the floor were changed in disfavour of the Benetton. There is no way, Senna couldve recover this year from the beating he recieved until Imola. So 94 pretty much done, 95 - also a walk in the park - And do you guys rly think Schumacher wouldve join the Ferrarri of 95/96 if theres a Senna in his back? I doubt it. Tbh its more realistic Schumacher wouldve won even more than 7 titles in his career if Senna didnt die and he had stick with benetton or even went to mclaren. And i dont rly want to talk about this bullshit about the so called "illegal benetton".. it was a small team, if there was any possible way williams could fight that car, they def did. probably they had a whole department for it...

That's pretty rich for such a POS that James Hunt was to say. He was responsible for causing the accident that led to death of Ronnie Peterson and he blamed Riccardo Patrese for that. This moron remains the worst of the champions that UK produced, even someone like Damon Hill makes a better champion than the fluke that Hunt was due to Lauda's missed races. Later in life Hunt was in debt and an alcoholic.

The politics of this aside, I just felt sad at the point James Hunt said about " Senna trying all he can to get into a Williams and it appears to be impossible. " And yet it did happen, but by then we had lost Hunt who didn't see it, and then of course we know what followed with Senna and Williams.

I think we can put a few myths to bed now the era of the podcast is here. The Williams was a dog and was far too cramped for senna. Hill was obviously used to its dimensions. In fact if you see that Ariel shot of senna in the pits the tub looks like a Leyton house, incredibly narrow. Frank dernie said that Rory Byrne was good at picking aero parts that gave high downforce at low speed, hence the car had massive traction. Apparently an old trick that teams with not much money used. Coupled with Schumacher left foot braking meant he could drive 100% in races, especially now refuelling was allowed

Nice to see some footage of the Portuguese National Television (RTP), that back then had two channels (Canal 1 and TV2). Pity they no longer show the F1 races. I remember when I was in vacations at my Grandparents, my Grandfather during lunch, soon the race was about to start, would get up and sit in front of the TV.

The williams in 94 was pretty much a very unstable and hard to drive then the previous year. Yet Senna was driving the hell out of it and manage to tame it thro pure skills and experience. just look how he past Hill like he is standing still... What an incredible Talent. we just wonder how the season would have been, hell the future years if he didnt have that accident. R.I.P Ayrton, we miss you.

Senna completely outclassed Hill, and yet, by the end of the season, Hill almost won the title. Williams was still the best team, all it took was some time to put in the work and updates. From Spain on, here are Damon Hills finishes.... 1 2 2 1 8 2 1 1 1 2 1 Ret (Crahsed out by Schimacher)

First full season Schumacher finished 3rd in WDC which was best of the rest after the dominant Williams. That was an absolutely brilliant first full season, immediate impact and showcase of the future. And if not for poor mechanical reliability in 1993 Schumacher would have again finished higher than 4th. In the two full seasons they raced each other Schumacher was faster and looked better than Senna. Senna was already past his peak, Michael improved with every year.

Schumacher had traction control on his car, they have recently admitted this, Senna knew by the engine tone of Michael’s car at the time, how could a rookie in an inferior car be leading the best car driven by a three times world champion, Benetton were very clever the way they concealed it.
