Crawley is a good place to shop, and there is an IMAX cinema there. Tilgate park is lovely. Apart from that, Crawley is horrible.

A few friends of mine cross the border to purchase allergy medicine and eye glasses nowadays. Even we have health insurance, they are considerably inexpensive in Mexico, they speak. Smart shopping, Matt. Hooray! BTW, have you been to Costa Rica? I may have mixed up with El Salvador you have been to? Any advice for traveling in Mexico even though I may fly from Orlando/ Miami to Costa Rica???
I've lived in L.A. my entire life and I won't ride Metro. Too dangerous, especially when Metro allows this to be not only a shuttle for hobos and drug addicts but, at last count, over 5,000 of them were actually LIVING on the buses and trains. Add to that frequent stabbing and shootings, which are featured on local newscasts, but Metro doesn't want you to believe your lying eyes. They want you to believe that Metro is safe, even though it clearly isn't. I would love to be able to ride a clean, safe transit system, but I'll have to go to another state or country to do that. It won't happen here in L.A.
I absolutely agree with you. Just a couple of weeks after I recorded this, a 67-year old lady was stabbed in the neck and killed at the Universal City Metro stop. It's genuinely dangerous.

I used to enjoy ferry crossings so much as they meant the start of a new trip. Years ago there was a ferry from Felixstowe to Zeebrugge overnight and while the deck would have been a bit cold and damp to sleep the corridors and stairwells did just fine. Mazatlan looks friendly and fun especially om the beach where as you say there was a carnival like atmosphere. The town looked so enticing in the evening too. Liverpool Street was a fun find. It is amazing where the old telephone boxes turn up. Away from the border a much more favourable impression of Mexico emerges.
Indeed Ivor, they remind me of cross-channel voyages when I was a lad. Mazatlán certainly is a fun place, I'd happily go back!

There are some very nice places around Gillingham. The problem with Gillingham is the lack of investment. Now Rochester which is part of Medway is obviously the tourist attraction with castle and cathedral. Chatham as mentioned has Fort Amherst and the historic Dockyard, but Gillingham has nothing compared to those two. luckily I live between Gillingham and Rainham in a estate called Twydall, most of it is tree lined roads and grass verges. Ok it does have a problem around the shopping area. But I wouldn't live anywhere else.
Yep I hadn't been to Gillingham town centre for a while (straight to Priestfield and back for me) and was sad to make it number 1 worst town but I didn't have much choice. Most people in Medway would say that Sheerness is worse, however being a swampie myself, I couldn't put it in the list for fear of being lynched 😆

I left uk but I am still patriotic as my forefathers fought in the world wars,but when I come back now and then I am disgusted to see the state of our once great country. I still pay tax and insurance even though i left over 20 years ago but for what ,to give to these immigrants who have ruined the country.I won't be back...

Hi Matt, well that was pretty cool. Mexico sure seems very friendly or this part does. Getting subs on the go so worth the extra 100 and seemed a better quality hat. You was quite the celebrity at one point. I've never been to Mexico but do like Mexican food so probably even better the authentic kind. A bit of entertainment to boot 🙂
Cheers Paul! The hat was still the same price (just over £6) so happy enough with that 😎 the food here is much better quality than the Mexican restaurants we get in the UK, which are mostly run by Indians 😆

I'm not surprised it took you a while to get out of this place, seems like an absolute maze! I've been to a few similar markets in Asia, and I always get very nervous when it comes to haggling. Your ability to speak Spanish, definitely came in handy. Seems like you're a celebrity in Mexico! 😂
I love a good haggle! The trick is to have a maximum price in mind and never go above that. Luckily I'm not an impulsive buyer so that helps

That hike was certainly worth it - some spectacular views! Those crocodiles looked relatively calm, compared to what you typically hear. And I love that story regarding the song, I often get similar nostalgia vibes when I visit places that feature in films I watched as a kid.
Those crocs are the most chill animals I've ever seen, they give sloths a run for their money 😅 I know what you mean, I felt like Indiana Jones in Petra haha

Hibiscus water sounds fascinating and I do have a soft spot for anything guava too. Your Spanish skills are very impressive and allow you to connect with the locals in a more meaningful way.
